Dear Guild Members,

Happy Spring!

I want to thank everyone who helped to make our President’s Challenge such a success! Thanks

to Stacey Young and Mary Battaglia who came up with a system for us to be able to see the

quilts close up and those who helped to hang all of the quilts. Thanks to everyone who entered a

quilt. We had 23 quilts entered and you’re all winners to me! A few days after our meeting I

found out that The Dallas Guild’s theme for next year is “Animals.” Soooo, that means several

of you are ready for their show. 😊

Happy Quilting!

Robbin Peck, President Garland Quilt Guild

Bluebonnet flowers are found in the southwestern United States and

are the state flower of Texas. Bluebonnets got their name from the

bonnets pioneer women use to wear to protect their faces from the

sun. The shape of the petals on the flower resemble the old pioneer

bonnets.

Mary Battaglia and Jean Blalock have given unselfishly to the Guild quietly for many years.

They participate in all of the activities of the Guild.

Mary keeps us informed with her excellence in presenting the Newsletter each month.

Jean continues to inspire us with the continuation of the annual display at the Granville

Performing Arts Center.

They both participate in small groups in the Guild, community service and being good

ambassadors to the community for the Guild.

Jean started a program of taking mini shows to nursing homes in our area. Mary steps up to help

in any way she can as opportunities present themselves.

It gave me great joy this year to see that the Guild members share my admiration for these two

women, and it is with that joy that I presented the Founder’s Spool Awards for 2017 to Mary

Battaglia and Jean Blalock.

Thank y’all for the submission of your darling 3 leaf clovers blocks. 18 blocks went to the “Luck

of the Irish ☘” winner Hope Kirk.

The block for this month to be submitted is a sweet 30’s reproduction floral design turned in by

Suzy Boyle. I have mine completed and it went together in no time. Love it. Sally says if you

forget to make one just come buy tickets.

We have 3 months open for BOM ideas to be turned in. Those months are October to be made

for November drawing, November for December drawing and December for January drawing.

Remember that for design, 50 copies and sample block you receive 7 tickets towards winning in

the drawing for the blocks.

Start thinking what you would like to submit to the Mini Quilt Auction that will be held in

September in conjunction with the Salad Supper.

Don’t forget to pick up directions for the block that will be turned in in May. It’s an adorable

butterfly submitted by Beverly Everett.

Keep stitchin those blocks,

Sally and Diana

The demand for the church’s sack lunches has grown tremendously, with the church now giving

away about 35 lunches a week to the homeless or the hungry. The following is the list of items for

the sack lunch ministry operated by our facility location host, First Presbyterian Church. Just pack

the lunches in a small brown paper sack with non-perishable items, such as:

canned tuna or chicken salad

peanut butter and crackers

cheese and crackers

chips

fruit cup

cookies

pudding

You may also include a drink (although not necessary) as well as a napkin and spoon. Items should

not require a can opener. Bottled water is also much appreciated. You can find many of these items

at a Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Wal-Mart, etc.

The church also collects pancake mix and syrup. We also have a tip jar at the sign-in table, and

if everyone were to throw in their loose change we could donate a great deal to the church each

month. Thank you so much!
