Perhaps it is obvious in the Campos family especially starting with our father and mother, Jose and Luisa Campos, the main area of interest and involvement in the community is in the field of education.” Dr. Paulo Campos personally believed in the idea that one should be both a teacher and a student to be a good educator. CSC offers in-depth understanding of Cavite history

The Cavite Studies Center (CSC) organized the 14th CSC Annual Seminar on Cavite History and Culture on February 22, 2019 with the theme, Padayon: Mga Alternatibong Pananaw at Kaalaman sa Kasaysayan ng Cavite in Luis Aguado Viewing Room of Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo – Information Resource Center from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

Dr. Palmo Iya, CSC Director declared that the Cavite Studies Center is one of the local study centers in the Philippines that oversees and advocates local heritage specifically in the field of history and culture of Cavite; hence, the annual seminar on history and culture of Cavite is organized by the center.

Speakers, Engr. Aurelio Bautista (Poet Caviteño 1999), Jomar

Encilla (Historical Consultant of Municipal of Taguig City), and Dr. Vicente Villan (Cavite Study Center, Writer-in-Residence) presented their studies on topics related to Cavite History.

Attendees from Cavite Historical Society, Sta. Cruz Elementary School of City of Dasmariñas, Guyam Elementary School –

Indang, Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy, and DLSU-D were given perspectives on Caviteño surnames, the leadership of General Emilio Aguinaldo, and understanding of the colonial history of Cavite through the presentations.

Iya further announced that the event will become a national seminar in the succeeding years.

The Professional Education Department (PFD) of the College of Education (COED) spearheaded the 8th Young Educators’ Congress held at the Ugnayang La Salle on February 8, 2019. The theme of this year’s Congress is “Embracing Students’ Diversity” which was participated in by students from different schools in CALABARZON. In her Remarks of Circumstance, Mrs. Relyn S. Antenor-Cruz, PFD Chairperson, stressed that De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and the College of Education has remained steadfast in its advocacy and commitment to uplift and

promote the nobility and prestige of the teaching profession in the Philippines and in the world. Now on its 8th year, the College of Education has taken the challenge and the initiative to gather young educators in order to establish linkages and networks with various teacher training institutions in Cavite and other regions through congresses, seminars, research presentations and other activities.

Educators’ Congress embraces student diversity

University of the Philippines, Diliman, drew the attention of the audience to the fact that inclusive education remains a task. With the implementation of the K-12 program, the Department of Education (DepEd) faced the difficulty of implementing inclusive education. However, Bustos was optimistic that DepEd will overcome such issues.

Meanwhile, Lou Sabrina Ongkiko, of Culiat Elementary School in Quezon City, cited “the three bridges” in inclusive education: (1) understanding (empathy or entering into the context of a student), (2) relationships (creating friendships in class); and, (3) solidarity (teaching students to become good and responsible persons).

The event ended with an awarding ceremony on various competitions as part of the annual congress.

CBAASG holds career seminar for SHS students

The College of Business Administration and Accountancy Student Government (CBAASG) in collaboration with the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), and its four departments spearheaded an event entitled: Pathways: Renewing Career Perspectives held at Teatro Caviteno, Alumni Building, February 18, 2019.

Resource speakers included DLSU-D CBAA graduates Kim Alexia Dela Rea and Parissha T. Mazuooth, Marvin C. Olivarez, Joseph Tanael, Michael Delos Reyes. Meanwhile, Paulino Batengui from Toastmaster International, and outgoing President Julian Elloso and incoming President Iram Rayos Del Sol from AIESEC-Dasmarinas, shared their insights about the career opportunities inside and outside the university.

After the seminar, the participants were toured inside the CBAA building and visited booths prepared by the different departments and

recognized student organizations such as; Junior Marketing Association (JMA), Marché Société, Junior Financial Executives Institutes of the Philippines (JFINEX), Junior Philippine Association of Management Accountants (JPAMA), Business Operations and Management Society (BOMS), Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA), People Management Society (PMSOC), and Accounting Enrichment Society (ACES).

Dr. Mary Felidora Florinor Amparo, CBAA Dean stressed that the College of Business Administration and Accountancy has remained committed to its advocacy of producing socially-aware and competent professionals and entrepreneurs with the support of its four departments -- Accountancy, Allied Business , Business Management, and Marketing.

According to CBAASC O.I.C. President, Francis Joseph Frange “It is the first time that the College of Business Administration and Accountancy Student Government initiated a career fair for SHS students and we wanted to market the college to our future achievers, as our council will transcend in our limits.”

The seminar was attended by Senior High School Students taking up Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) of the De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and various schools in Cavite.

DLSU-D students take part in 2nd AWMUN in Bangkok by Terence Guzman

Five DLSU-D students were selected as official delegates of the prestigious 2nd Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN) held at Prince Palace Hotel and Windsor Suites Hotel Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand from January 30 to February 2, 2019. Out of 25,467 applicants around the world, the 5 are among the 1,326 fixed delegates selected to be the “Agents of Change “ to participate in the big event simulation of Model United Nations(MUN).

The delegates include Kate Nicole Vele (ENR42), Claudette Aquino (BSM42), and Noelle Angeline Monzon (BSM42) from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy; Romana Ruiz (BTM44) from the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management and Mhel Christian Ang (ENV41) from the College of Science and Computer Studies.

As participants of the said convention, they reiterate how AWMUN helped them develop their leadership skills

to discover their potentials and build their confidence to embrace diversity towards society.“It is an International global network that connects leaders all over the world to raise cultural awareness, open mindfulness and sense of care to create solutions for a perennial problem.”, Monzon emphasized. International delegates from various organizations, institutions and companies were tasked to conceptualize and present

their position papers at the Grand Symposium convention with other international speakers and delegates.

AWMUN is a platform to develop youth mentality in leadership, negotiation and diplomacy in interacting with other delegates from all over the world. The AWMUN theme for this year is, The Worlds Dilemma: Enhancing World Action on Climate Change.

Augustine Boquer FSC, DLSU-D President, expressed in his message to see the good that Dr. Campos had done for the City of Dasmariñas and the province of Cavite. Br. Boquer affirmed the hope that

Dr. Campos had brought to the medical profession especially those who aspire to become physicians. In addition, Hon. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., Mayor of the City of Dasmariñas, shared the immeasurable legacy and brilliance of Dr. Campos in the medical profession. His academic excellence in the medical field flows into service for the benefit of the people of Cavite and the

Philippines as well. He embodied the principle “service to others leads to greatness.” Dr. Campos is also known for his tireless effort to preserve the rich history of Cavite.

Hon. Barzaga ended his message with the encouragement to the youth to admire, uphold and live the legacy of Dr. Campos.

POESIA goes on revolutionIn celebration of the National Arts Month, and to commemorate the 150th year of Emilio Aguinaldo, POESIA was held last February 6 at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe, 4 pm organized by Museo De La Salle. Dubbed as “POESIA: Mga Awit ng Himagsikan”, the event brought to light the creative power of arts and its role as a spark for social change. It also emphasized arts as a manifestation of our nation’s soul, and from it our pride of being Filipinos.

Students from Junior High School, Senior High, and Communication and Journalism Department (CJD), as well as staff member of the Office of the University read the works of Filipino poets and song writers, Fermin Velasco (Aguinaldo), Jose Reyes (Sa Bayang Pilipinas), Ciriaco Bauza (Sa Aking Bayan), and Carlos Ronquillo (Kantaheng Pulube). Also featured in the event were the poems Konstitusyon, Alerta Katipunan, Ang Rebolucionario, Laban Hanggang sa Huli, Napapanahon Ika’y Itanghal, Anak

mong Pili, Nananatiling Matatag, and Sa Iyongpagwagayway, all by anonoymous Filipino artists.

The event was directed by Rosanni Sarile (CJD),while Dr. Lakandupil Garcia (Languages and Literature Department), who also performed, trained all the readers. POESIA is a project of Museo De La Salle in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, Communication and Journalism Department, Senior High School, and Junior High School.

Student Wellness Center launches Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy workshopThe Student Wellness Center (SWC), together with the College of Liberal Arts and Communications (CLAC) conducted a workshop entitled: Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to Manage Stress, Depression, and Anxiety held at JFH 301, Julian Felipe Hall on February 15,Friday. The said workshop, participated in by the faculty and staff of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, aimed to uplift mindfulness and create a harmonious relationship between the students and their professors in the University.

Counselors Louela Lacsamana, Cynthia Camarce, and Dr. Jenneth De Guia facilitated the said workshop in which they shared their insights

April 7, 2019 marks the 300th anniversary of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s completion of his earthly journey (April 30, 1651-April 7, 1719). To celebrate this historic milestone, DLSU-D will hold

the ANIMOSAIC 2: Humans of St. La Salle Project, a Record Attempt for a cause that aims to unite the entire Lasallian community to form a beautiful and well-executed image of the Holy Founder.

The ANIMOSAIC is a reminder of how St. La Salle has made an impact in the education sector today and is an invitation for us to live out the Lasallian vocation. The Registration Fee (Jubilee Gift) of Php300 (Three Hundred Pesos) will provide each participant a ticket to attend the Tercentenary show, a souvenir umbrella to be used for the Human Formation and a donation to the One La Salle Scholarship Endowment Fund.

According to project convenor Marco M. Polo, the activity also aims to develop a deeper appreciation of St. La Salle’s legacy of making education an opportunity for salvation for young people, especially those who are at risk.

“Most importantly, the activity seeks to explore what it means to be the face of St. La Salle today and, in the process, live out each vocation as a Lasallian,” he said. The event is set to take place at the DLSU-D track oval, where DLSU-D first made history with the 10,000-strong Human Lasallian Star in 2009.

CTHM students win in DOMESTIKWHIZ 2019A team of BS Tourism Management (BTM) students emerged as 2nd runner-up at the coveted DOMESTIKWHIZ 2019 organized by the UP Club Ecotour, held at the University of the Philippines, Diliman Quezon City on February 23, 2019.

CTHM-studs headed by its coach, Tourism Management Faculty, Guiller Gison, the DLSU-D team was composed of Tourism Management students Alexia Marie Lopez (4th year), Bryan Lina (1st year) and Jocelle Ricio (1st year) who were awarded with medals and cash prizes. This year’s theme focused on environmental sustainability. The DOMESTIKWHIZ is considered the flagship quiz bee competition for Tourism and Hospitality students since its inception in 2002.
