Update
for more detailed information.)
Nebraska (West End) Update – Pat Leahy
Pat Leahy reported he is going to visit the grain elevators and
talk face to face with as many truck drivers as possible since we
are in harvest season. He continues to make presentations and
working several booths at the
western end of the state.
Nebraska State Fair – August 26 - September 5, 2016 – Pat
Leahy
The NE OL trailer was at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island
from August 26th to September 5th. During the first five days of
the fair there was record attendance of school kids with a good
compliment of adults
receiving presentations in the trailer. Due to a lack of volunteers
to work the booth the trailer was closed on September 4 and
5.
New Business:
New Board of Director Member – Rich Kotan Richard Kotan reported
Gary Sydzyik’s position has been filled by Dan Chapp, who has 20
years with BNSF. If
anyone has any questions regarding the election of officers,
contact Rich by email at
[email protected].
New OLAV Program for Volunteers – Deb Ashworth
Carol and Deb Ashworth completed an OLAV face-to-face training in
North Platte at the college with 14 new people. A majority of the
people who attended were from the Visitor Center and the Golden
Spike. They want
to be able to do presentations.
Deb Ashworth reported on a suggestion from Dan Chapp to have a $100
gift certificate drawing among the presenters every quarter to
motivate them. This would be an incentive to get the presenters to
enter the
number of presentations or events into the OLI system. The first
drawing will be for all volunteer efforts from
August 1 to November 30, 2016. The winner will be announced on the
2nd Monday of December and the winner will be posted on the NE OL
website and Facebook. Contact Carol Daley at 402-885-8572 or by
email
at
[email protected] if you have questions or if you are having
problems entering information into the OLI System. (See attached
for more information and a breakdown of presentations)
Update on Photos on Tracks – Chip Frazier Chip reported on a flyer
his company, HDR, received from the Midwest Industrial Supply, Inc.
using the title
“Kiss Your Rail Problems Goodbye” with two people standing on the
tracks. Chip stopped at the booth at the convention to discuss the
issue of marketing trespassing on the tracks as shown on the front
of the flyer. (See
attached.) National OLI needs to get involved to get these type of
photos removed. Carol will address this
issue with OLI when she attends the conference next week.
Council Bluff’s Service Unit Trailer – Tim Brandt
Tim Brandt of the Council Bluff’s Service Unit had made an earlier
request to see if NE OL would be interested in providing funds for
a crash car trailer in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area. However, the
trailer was not
purchased. If you have questions, please contact Carol at
402-885-8572 or by email at
[email protected].
Tim also presented on the “Maximum of Operating Practices Union
Pacific CARES Operation.” The acronym
CARES stands for Crossing Accident Reduction Education. The UP
CARES has static trailers with two different messages on each side
of the trailer. These trailers can vary in cost. They have been
placing these trailers at
grain elevators, farm safety activities, by railroad crossings,
etc. If you have questions, contact Tim Brandt by email at
[email protected].
National Advisory Committee Meeting – Carol Daley
Carol will be attending the National Advisory Committee Meeting in
Kansas City, MO. on September 13 and
14th.
Chad Deasy – Director – Homeland Security, Union Pacific Railroad
Police Department Chad Deasy gave an excellent presentation on his
job as the Director of Homeland Security with the Union
Pacific Railroad Police Department. He provided an overview on the
history, employment, responsibilities of the
agency. This agency works alongside of seven different agencies in
the Railroad Security Intelligence System. The core
