Necto 16 Training Necto Server
Objectives• By the end of this lesson you will have knowledge of the
Necto Server and it’s individual parts:• … \E-BI Directory• ...\Common Files\Panorama Directory• Necto Services• Necto Registry• Necto Db’s• Necto In-Memory Engine• Necto Administration tools
Necto …\E-BI directory•The E-BI directory is the main Necto directory and where most of the Client side programs and files reside, but also the applications for the Server side•Applications include:• pnProcessor• pnManager• PnSessionsContainer• PnRenderingService
Necto …\Common Files\Panorama directory
•The …\Common Files\Panorama directory is the storage area for the Server side dll’s and the license file amongst other things• If you are asked to install a hotfix this is directory where
most of the updates happen to files such as:• pnServer• pnAdmin• pnCube
• Licence updates (replacing and old license or adding new features), will require you to replace the license.lic file
Necto Services
• Using the Services.msc application in Windows you can access the Necto services• There are 5 Necto Services (1 of which is archived)• Necto Rendering Service, used for rendering the PDF’s and
Pictures for use in exports and notifications and general clipboard use• Necto Business Intelligence Service, Used to create the
connections between the Necto Server and the backend SQL server plus run caching, authentication pipes to the SQL server etc.• Necto Cube Service, used to manage creation, deletion and other
functions of Necto in memory models on the SQL server.• Necto Administration Service, used to manage the administration
of all of Necto’s Users, Roles, and all other administration functions
• Necto Intelligence Service (archived), this service is disabled now, it was used for the same purpose as the new Necto Business Intelligence Service it will be removed a coming release.
Necto Registry Entries
• Use regeidt.exe in Windows to access the registry of your server.• Necto utilizes the following branch of the registry
• ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Panorama’• Within this the only branch that should be modified (only on the application
of a hotfix or advice of panorama Support), is ‘Necto 16.0\Admin’• The String Values or other members in this location, are
usually accessible through the Necto GUI so there is no need to directly access the Registry editor
Necto DB’s
• The Necto Databases are installed on an SQL instance chosen at the time of Necto installation, this can be on the local machine or a remote instance.
The Necto Databases are: Panorama, used for storing caching
data and WebPart information (this database is slowly being Phased out).
PanoramaAdminDB, stores all the administrative information used in the day to day running of Necto
PanoramaAuditDB, Stores all audit information, changes made to views in the system by users etc.
PanoramaCubeGeneratorDB, Stores information on the Necto Models created on the SQL Tabular instance
Necto Administration Tools
• Run the Necto Administration Tool shortcut from the Start menu to access this group of tools, covered here are, Log Viewer, Migration and Update DB Settings.
Log Viewer should be used on the advice of Panorama Support if there is an issue, it gives a user friendly way to access and export Necto log files.
Migration Tool, we cover this in a separate module in the training called ‘30 (archive) Necto 16 NovaView to Necto migration.pptx’
Update DB Settings, covered in detail on the next page
The rest of the items should not be used as they are for backwards compatibility only.
Necto Administration Tools (Update DB Settings)
• Run the Necto Administration Tool shortcut from the Start menu to access Update DB Settings tool.
Update all DB Settings, takes the DB Server, DB User and DB Password and if added OLAP Server and updates them across the system
Update Necto Server Name will update the server name across the system if it was changed in the registry, this should only be used by Panorama Support
Create Repositories will create a fresh set of Panorama databases in a chosen location, should only be used by Panorama Support
Summary• In this lesson you will have gained knowledge regarding the
Necto Server and it’s individual parts:• … \E-BI Directory• ...\Common Files\Panorama Directory• Necto Services• Necto Registry• Necto Db’s• Necto In-Memory Engine• Necto Administration tools
