Mayor’s Message First I would like to welcome our Interim CAO Al

Harvey to the team. Al will be in the CAO position part-time. He has many years of municipal experience and is also currently the CAO for Highway 14 Water and Councillor in Lamont. We welcome Al to the village staff team. Council is working on finding a permeant CAO and hope to find a replacement soon.

We have the annual RyTof tournament coming to Ryley September long weekend. I encourage residents to check out the games and cheer on the teams.

The Ryley Market is starting back up and our first market lunch will be a fundraiser for the Little Warriors. Market will be held the first Thursday of the month for the remainder of the year. There is some new and old treasure to be found along with a great time to visit with your neighbors.

School is back in session on September 4. Just a reminder for motorist to watch out for children making their way to and from school.

With all the fires going on in BC and the dry weather we’re having please use caution with your back yard fire. If you’re unsure of fire bans in the area you can call Beaver Emergency Services Commission at 780-336-3041 or visit www.besc.ca or www.albertafirebans.ca for updates and changing conditions.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer!

Recreational Vehicle ReminderIt’s that time of year for holidays, camping and trips.

Please keep in mind that Bylaw No. 2010-894 13.1 states “No person shall park any trailer, or permit any trailer to be parked upon any highway within the mu-nicipality unless the trailer is attached to a vehicle by which it may be propelled or drawn; when the trailer is attached, it shall be deemed to be part of the vehicle to which it is attached, and shall be subject to the regula-tion pertaining to vehicles unless otherwise authorized by the Administrator.”

“Trailer” means a vehicle so designed that it may be attached to or drawn by a motor vehicle and intend-ed to transport property or persons and includes any trailer that is designed, constructed and equipped as a dwelling place, living abode or sleeping place, either permanently or temporarily, but does not include machinery or equipment used in the construction or maintenance of highways.

If you have any questions regarding this bylaw please contact the office at 780-663-3653.

TAXervice to manage tax recovery process for

Village of RyleyThe Council of the Village of Ryley has voted to out-

source tax collection on overdue accounts to TAXer-vice, a third-party agency which specializes in tax re-covery on behalf of municipalities. TAXervice provides location services for property owners who are hard to reach, coordinates with the municipality on yearly ar-rears lists, and deals directly with ratepayers, freeing up valuable time in the Village office spent each year at-tempting to settle overdue accounts. Fees for TAXervice are billed directly to ratepayers in arrears and added to the tax roll, recoverable in the same fashion as taxes.

A reminder to all residents, please pay your taxes in a timely fashion – if you wish, a monthly payment instal-lation plan can be set up to make payments easier to manage on a monthly budget. If you are currently in arrears, a payment plan can be set up to a maximum of three years for clearing arrears taxes, as limited in the Municipal Government Act. Taxes are considered in arrears January 1 of the following calendar year from which they were levied. After being in arrears for one full calendar year, the tax recovery process begins, as outlined in the Municipal Government Act.

Tax Deadline Friday, August 31, 2018

COMMUNITY ADVISORY Paragon Theatre

Due to the recent thefts in the last week of our movie projector system and sound components from the Holden Paragon Theatre, regular movies will no longer be held until Community funding is found to replace them.

There was no insurance on the items taken to replace them. This is the third break in experienced at the the-atre within the last year.

Substantial Community support and interest is now needed to enable the movie program to continue.
