Neighborhood Campus – God’s Playbook – Week 2 Find It: Isaiah 7:14 & Matthew 1:23 Learn It: Connecting the Old Testament and New Testament Memorize It: Isaiah 40: 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Bottom Line: The Bible is true. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Use It: (supplies needed) Per small group -- 2 containers labeled “heads” and “tails”, 1 coin, memory verse poster (with sticky notes to cover words) or White board with verse written out Say It: (what to say) Alright! It’s week 2 of God’s Playbook. Can anyone say our memory verse for this series? (allow for tries) Let’s say the verse together a few times. This week we are going to play a game – “Heads or Tails.” Ready? Do It: (what to do) Say verse together as a group several times. Two containers – one labeled “heads” and one “tails”. Memory verse words split into the two containers. Toss the coin, have a child call it and then pick a word out of that labeled container. Erase or cover that word from the verse and say it together as a group again. Keep repeating until all words are erased and the containers are empty. Use It: (supplies needed) 2 Hershey nuggets per child, 1 piece of red string per child, 1 cardstock piece per child, 1 verse label per child, 3 glue dots per child Say It: (what to say) Talk about Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Can someone tell me things that don’t last? (Fads, food, material possessions, etc). Great job. All of those things don’t stick around, but God’s word will last wayyy beyond our lives even. God’s word is powerful and still helpful to us today in making the right choices. Do It: (what to do) Using one glue dot per nugget, glue the Hershey nuggets to the cardstock piece of paper. Place the verse label over the nugget and glue part of the red string to the back of the card stock and place in between the “pages” or nuggets. Memory Verse Craft

Neighborhood Campus – God’s Playbook – Week 2

Use It: (supplies needed) Slips of paper with Bible verse references, slips of paper with simple phrases

Do It: (what to do) Small group leader read the verse out loud to the children and match each simple phrase to the verse.

Say It: (what to say) Let’s see if we can match the verse out of God’s word to the phrase that we can remember.

• Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. o The Bible is true and God is faithful.

• II Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work.

o Every word of the Bible is from God and can teach me. • Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

o God’s word can show me the right path to take in life. • James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

o Only reading or listening to the Bible does no good; I have to do what it says. • Luke 11:28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

o My life will be blessed if I read AND keep (or follow) the things God says in the Bible.

Neighborhood Campus – God’s Playbook – Week 2

Use It: (supplies needed) 1 set of true/false cards for each child, 2 bins per small group labeled “true” and “false”

Do It: (what to do) Two bins (per 15 children) marked true and false – throw your choice of card in the bin for the answer you choose. Discuss as a group whether it’s true or false and why. Each child should then pull their card back out of the bin in preparation for the next question. Questions are below.

Say It: (what to say) Sometimes it’s difficult to decide what is true and what isn’t. Sometimes it’s easy. Everything in this book (hold up your Bible) is true! You can count on it! God gives you EVERYTHING you need to be successful in life! Let’s play a game where we distinguish between things that are true and false.

Questions:

-The Bible has 2 sections – Old Testament and New Testament. (True)

-There are 58 books of the bible in the New Testament. (False – there are 27)

-God asked 200 men to write the books of the Bible (False – 40 men)

-Matthew, in the New Testament, told us about Jesus’ birth to Mary. The book in the Old Testament where we found the same story was Isaiah. (True)

-The Bible was written over the course of 3,000 years (False – 1,500 years)

-The truth of the Bible only helps me if I dig and really learn it. (True)

-The Bible is totally true. (True)

-Isaiah and Mary lived about 1,000 years apart. (False 700 years apart)
