Imhoff Waldorf School offers a unique solution to the challenges of our current education climate. Through integrated, holistic education, that transcends diverse backgrounds, our approach is proven to develop learners into tomorrow’s leaders. In response to the demand for this approach to education, we have designed a new educational facility to be built on our own site. This development will be grounded in fully sustainable principles and practices, expanding on our offering to an under-served South Peninsula Cape Town. To realise this, we have launched a R40 million Capital Fundraising Campaign, and are looking for partners to join us in bringing this powerful initiative to life. Imhoff Waldorf School offers a unique solution to the challenges of our current education climate. Through integrated, holistic

education, that transcends diverse backgrounds, our approach is proven to develop learners into tomorrow’s leaders.

In response to the demand for this approach to education, we have designed a new educational facility to be built on our

own site. This development will be grounded in fully sustainable principles and practices, expanding on our offering to an

under-served South Peninsula Cape Town.

To realise this, we have launched a R40 million Capital Fundraising Campaign, and are looking

for partners to join us in bringing this powerful initiative to life.

Education is the most powerful weaponwhich you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela

Imhoff Waldorf School

Who we areImhoff Waldorf School provides an education of excellence based on Rudolph Steiner’s comprehensive understanding of the human being and the development of the child. The pedagogy is designed to meet the child developmentally, and nurture all dimensions of the human being – physical, emotional, intellectual, moral and spiritual – and in so doing, prepare the child for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in school and throughout life. Teaching is considered and practised as an art, whereby teachers aim not to cram learners with knowledge, but to awaken - at the right moment - the child’s innate abilities.

Our HistoryThe current Imhoff Waldorf School was founded in 1996 on Imhoff Farm with only one class and one teacher. It is one of eighteen Waldorf Schools in South Africa and over 1000 worldwide. It has grown into a community that encompasses a parent and child circle, a toddler group, two playgroup classes, three kindergarten classes, a primary school and a full high school up to matric. And 2016 is the first year for our Matric Class! With committed, qualified and experienced teaching staff of 46, administrative staff of five, and cleaning and grounds team of five, we nurture over 300 children.

The combined new site will allow for a significant increase of this number to 450 students.

Our highest endeavour must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility - these three forces are the very nerve of education. - Rudolf Steiner

Our inclusive approachWe adopt a strong sense of community. This is developed through constant parental involvement and support, fundraising projects and an understanding of the needs of our pioneering school.

To support inclusiveness, we have structured our fees so they are affordable to parents from a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds. The School serves the communities of the far Southern Cape Peninsula, including the communities of Masiphumelele and Ocean View. We also support a crèche in Masiphumelele by mentoring the teachers, supporting their feeding scheme and offering craft materials. Our overall endeavour is to integrate these varied communities into our classrooms.

By implementing a dedicated sponsorship programme we are constantly working to support more children and their families throughout their time spent at our school. At present 10 percent of the children attending our school are supported by our sponsorship programme. We are working towards increasing the financial support for this programme. The programme plays a key role in community enrichment. It aims to foster an integrated community by creating an environment of belonging, respect, equality and diversity through empowerment and shared responsibility.

Receive the children in reverence; educate them in love; let them go forth in freedom. - Rudolf Steiner

Our funding structureThe majority of our school operational funding is secured through school fees. Further income is created through strong internal fundraising activities, including a Spring Fair, auction, Fun Run, Readathon and other smaller fundraising initiatives. The new school precinct opens up an excellent opportunity to run additional initiatives such as a weekly organic market, which will contribute significant revenues to the school. Our capital campaign incorporates an element of funds allocated to administration and commission.

GovernanceImhoff Waldorf School is a Non-Profit Company with a governance structure that incorporates the membership through the Parent Body, College of Teachers and Directors in the Board of Management. Robust oversight of the management of funds in the Dragon Tree Project is embedded in this structure.

Why choose WaldorfThe Waldorf schooling method develops free human beings who are intrinsically motivated to impart direction to their lives. Their creative and integrative thinking enables them to pick up any tool and employ it to its best effect in the expression of this purpose, be it mathematics, the arts, science, technology, entrepreneurship and leadership.

We, as educators, remove hindrances so that children can develop in freedom to fulfil their full human potential.

Key fact about Waldorf education Waldorf education is now the fastest-growing independent school movement in the world. Imhoff Waldorf School provides an educational home to these children on the southern-most tip of Africa, where two oceans meet – the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the warmer Indian Ocean waters on the east. East meets west. The merging of two worlds…What a strategic place in the world to be!
