NetBrain Integrated Edition IEv7.1 Data Migration Guide| 3

1. Before You Start

NetBrain IEv7.1 has been completely redesigned comparing to EEv6 and we have enhanced virtually every function.

Due to the complete change in the backend data model introduced by the newly designed system, the data format in

the new database is not compatible with previous database. The steps in this document need to be completed to

ensure a smooth transition from your previous versions of NetBrain to IEv7.1.

In this guide, you will be introduced to the steps that help you manually migrate all necessary settings to quickly create

a parallel domain that replicates what you have in your previous EEv6 versions in the new IEv7.1 version. However,

please be aware that all historical data, such as device configuration, benchmark data, and map data in EEv6 will not

be migrated to this latest version. Therefore, if historical benchmark data is required, we recommend running two

systems in parallel for a period of time until you are comfortable with the data in new system.

2. Pre-Discovery Migration Steps

Please make sure everything in this section is properly migrated from EEv6 to IEv7.1 before running discovery for the

first time in IEv7.1. Each subsection may or may not apply to your specific EEv6 deployment. If a certain subsection is

not applicable, please move on to the next one.

2.1. Network Setting

1. Export from EEv6

1) In Workstation, navigate to Workspace → Settings (Shared Network Settings).

2) Click Export and save the files into a newly created folder.

3) Compress the folder into a zip file.

3. Run Discovery

*A few migration processes in Section 4 requires that all devices in your current version should be discovered in IE7.1.

If not all devices can be discovered at this moment, you can finish the processes that have this requirement later.

3.1. IP List for Discovery

1. Export from EEv6

1) Click Workspace → Asset Report → Create Asset Report.

2) In the Create Asset Report pane, select the highlighted options of the image below, and specify the

location of the file. Note that make sure the report is created in a CSV file.

3) Click Start to generate the Asset Report for device information.

2. Import to IEv7.1 and run discovery

1) Navigate to Domain Management → Operations → Discover.

2) Click Import IP List.

3) Select the csv file created in step 1, check the Discover via Seed Routers option, and set Discovery Depth

as 0.

4) Click Start Discovery.

3.2. Device Driver

1. Export from EEv6

1) Click Workspace tab, expand the Vendor Model drop-down box and select Device Driver.

2) Right-click the customized drivers and select Export.

2. Import to IEv7.1

1) Go to Tenant Management, navigate to MVS Configuration → Device Driver.

2) Click Import to import the file exported from step 1.

Note:

• Driver Export/Import Limitation — the driver file extension in EEv6.x is .nbdriver, while it is .xdrv in IE7.1.

However, you can import EEv6 driver into IEv7.1 despite the difference of file type.

• Driver Customization — the customized login scripts cannot be migrated from EEv6.x to IE7.1. If

necessary, manually reconfigure IEv7.1 login scripts to be the same as existing EEv6 ones.

• Contact NetBrain Support if you couldn’t locate the customized drivers created by NetBrain.

1. Export from EEv6

1) Click the Workspace tab.

2) Click Site Manager.

3) Right click My Network, and select Backup Site Definition.

2. Import to IEv7.1

1) Navigate to Domain Management→ Operations → Site Manager.

2) Right-click My Network, and then select Load Site Definition.

3) Select the site definition file exported in step 1.

NOTE: Devices in a site may be lost if they are added via border interface or dynamic search

4.2. Device Group

1. Export from EEv6

1) Right-click a target device group in the Workspace Pane and then select Properties.

2) Click Export to generate a .csv file.

2. Import to IEv7.1

1) Open Device Group from NetBrain Desktop Menu, and select New Device Group.

2) Manually type in Device Group name.

3) Click Import and select the exported files in step 1 to import.

4) Click OK to apply the change.

5) Repeat above steps for each customized Device Group.

NOTE:

• Make sure the devices in the Device Group that you are migrating from EEv6 are discovered in IEv7.1. If

not, the system will pop up an error message stating there are 0 devices imported.

• Shared Device Group in EEv6 goes to Public folder in IEv7.1, while local group in EEv6 goes to My Device

Groups in IEv7.1.

• Search criteria that uses Network Server in EEv6.x will be lost after being imported because IEv7.1 uses

Front Server instead of Network Server.

4.3. MPLS Cloud

1. Export from EEv6

1) Right-click a target MPLS Cloud under the Workspace pane and select Modify Device.

2) Click Export.

3) Repeat two steps above if there are multiple MPLS clouds

Page 14: NetBrain Integrated Edition Data Migration Guide · 5/16/2018  · IEv7.1, please click Dynamic to verify the BGP AS# and check the Auto update dynamic CE list via BGP AS# and VRF

2. Import to IEv7.1

1) Go to Domain Management page and select Domain Manager from the Start Page tab.

2) Click MPLS Cloud and click Add.

3) Manually type in MPLS Cloud name.

4) Click Import and select the spreadsheet exported from EEv6.

5) Submit the change.

NOTE:

• All devices in EEv6 MPLS Cloud need be discovered in IEv7.1 to migrate MPLS Cloud.

• The name of the MPLS cannot be imported, it needs to be re-entered.

• Above method supports both dynamic & static MPLS clouds. For Dynamic MPLS clouds imported to

IEv7.1, please click Dynamic to verify the BGP AS# and check the Auto update dynamic CE list via BGP

AS# and VRF name checkbox.

NOTE: If scheduled tasks from two systems have the same run time, please disable the ones in EEv6. If you

would like to run the tasks on both two systems, please schedule a different time on IEv7.1.

4.5. Topology Stitching

NOTE: Only static topology stitching entries can be exported/imported. Dynamic entries created by Qapps can NOT be

migrated from EEv6 to IEv7.1. Please contact netBrain support to update the Qapps to IEv7.1 version.

1. Export from EEv6

1) Navigate to Workspace → Manager and select the Topology Stitching category to check customized links.

2. Import to IEv7.1

1) Navigate to Domain Management→ Operations → Topology Manager → Topology Link Manager.

2) Depend on the L3 or L2 topology link you are adding, select the corresponding entry to open. Refer to the

Topology Stitching entries in EEv6, and manually Add Topology Link in IEv7.1 under Total Topology Link

column.

NOTE: Make sure to run System Benchmark at least once in previous section to bring up L3/L2 topology link entries.

4.6. Qmaps

1. Export from EEv6

1) Open all the customized Qmaps saved in Map Center.

2) Click the icon and select Save As to each Qmap to your local drive.

2. Import to IEv7.1

1) Click Files on the taskbar.

2) Right-click the Public folder and select Import Maps.

3) Select the Qmap files you saved in your local PC and click Import.

4) After the import is completed, a report will show whether the process is successfully finished.

NOTE:

• You may import an EEv6 Qmap into IEv7.1 before all the devices on the map are discovered. However,

any undiscovered devices on IEv7.1 map will be shown as icons only without device details. You can

discover those devices later.

• IEv7.1 does not support the Import Configuration function to add devices.

• Place shared Qmaps in EEv6 to Public folder in IEv7.1, and local Qmaps in EEv6 to Private folder in IEv7.1.
