She was born March 3, 1927, near Farrar, to Everett and Ethyl Bailey Gardner. She graduated from Farrar High School in 1944. She was married to James G. Carey on Sept. 1, 1946. He died May 2, 1992. She had worked at RH Donnelley Marketing in Nevada for 40 years, retiring in 1990. She attended First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She enjoyed painting. Survivors include three sons, David Carey of St. Louis, Mo., Bradley Carey of Des Moines and Marshall Carey of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada Patterson and Eva Mae Sampson, both of Cambridge.

Mary Sally Carey, March 3, 1927 to Dec. 22, 2002 Mary "Sally" Carey, 75, of Nevada, died Sunday, Dec. 22, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital from a respiratory ailment.

She was born March 3, 1927, near Farrar, to Everett and Ethyl Bailey Gardner. She graduated from Farrar High School in 1944. She was married to James G. Carey on Sept. 1, 1946. He died May 2, 1992. She had worked at RH Donnelley Marketing in Nevada for 40 years, retiring in 1990. She attended First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She enjoyed painting.

Survivors include three sons, David Carey of St. Louis, Mo., Bradley Carey of Des Moines and Marshall Carey of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada Patterson and Eva Mae Sampson, both of Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Brian Carey on Dec. 6, 2002; two sisters, Libby Rhoads and Alice White; and three brothers, Willard Gardner, David Gardner and Jimmie Gardner.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 27, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Interment was in the Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell. ©Nevada Journal 2003
