The labor force participation rate for each respective group is calculated as follows: The male participation rate has fallen from an expansionary period high of 77 percent in mid 2008 to a low of 71.7 percent in early 2012. The female participation rate also began falling in 2008, but has recently begun ascending again. The difference between the male and female rates has never been closer. The most recent data indicates that 71.7 percent of males 16 years and older are participating in the labor force and 59.3 percent of females are participating in the labor force. In 2011, Nevada had a labor force participation rate of 65.7. The compares to a national rate of 64.1. Total labor force participation rates in Nevada have always exceeded that of the nation, for at least as far as the series history can tell.
