From the Desk of the Director

Greetings on behalf of Gujarat National Law University!

The GNLU Faculty Members and I take great pride in introducing to the legal fraternity the GNLU Batch of 2019. We present to you motivated, vibrantly individualistic yet highly sculpted professionals who aspire to be value creators and catalysts of change.

Since its inception, GNLU has strived to inculcate in its students commercial awareness and a sense of professionalism combined with resilience and humility. The dynamic sphere of law has evidenced the need for individuals who possess the capability to not only tackle challenges but also know how to gracefully move forward with the times and the Batch of 2019 is an embodiment of these qualities.

The students of our Institution and this Batch in particular, while scaling the heights of academic excellence, are not confined solely to academics, and have brought glory to the University by participating in and winning the most prestigious moot court, debate, negotiation and essay writing competitions. The students have contributed to the gamut of legal literature through publications in several International as well as National journals of academic repute. They have excelled at the performing arts as well as on the sports field.

Above all, the industry experience that the students have gained through their internships at law firms, corporate houses and courts have allowed them to be unparalleled in their capacity to contribute to the legal arena. We highly value our relations with recruiters and remain committed to making your recruitment experience productive and positive. With these words, I on behalf of the GNLU family, extend my warmest greetings and welcome all our prospective recruiters.

From the Desk of the Dean

Greetings from Gujarat National Law University!

Since its inception, Gujarat National Law University has striven to provide a conducive and nurturing environment for its students to adapt to the dynamic nature of the legal industry. In order to ensure this, we at GNLU, have worked to gain “knowledge from all directions” through personal and professional development.

GNLU is one of the best law schools in the country and the students have proven their mettle in various areas. The academic curriculum followed is wide ranging and inclusive of subjects like Law and Economics, Mergers and Acquisitions, Socio Economic Offences, Media Law, Energy Laws, Law, Religion, Spirituality and Justice, Maritime Law, Sports Law, etc. apart from following a research methodology based learning that urges students to develop their analytical skills and practical application of law. The students also have an edge and a deeper understanding of the subjects by means of University facilitated internships at NGOs, Judiciary, Government Departments and offices, prestigious law firms and various other organizations.

The students of the batch of 2019 are a perfect blend of sincerity, dedication, maturity, intellect/knowledge and professionalism. Having interacted and mentored them personally, I believe that these students possess all qualities to set benchmarks in the legal fraternity. I wish the batch of 2019 all the very best in their future endeavors.

I invite you to explore the GNLU website to get additional information about our faculty, programmes, curriculum requirements and students’ achievements.

With Best Wishes,

Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singh

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a statutory university established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is presently accredited with an 'A' Grade by NAAC and functions as the nodal agency to uplift the legal education in the State of Gujarat.

The GNLU Act, 2003 proclaims the objects of the University “shall be to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development; to develop in the students and the research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, parliamentary practice, law reforms and such other matters; to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development; and to promote inter-disciplinary study of law in relation to management, technology, international cooperation and development.”

The University is instrumental in providing a multi-disciplinary five-year integrated course – humanities, commerce, management, science, and social work. It is a legal institution with global outreach, which undertakes a continuous, dynamic process of creating legal minds who are par excellence professionals with an innate sense of responsibility to the society.

With state of the art research facilities and campus infrastructure readily accessible, the students, faculty, and research fellows find themselves well equipped to pursue their individual research interests. The University's library boasts of books on myriad, niche areas of law and aids in providing access to various online research databases and journals. Frequent interaction with the best legal minds through the media of conferences, guest lectures and specialized courses provide for a practical dimension to the theoretically intensive learning provided at the University. A decade since its establishment, the University has constantly been in pursuit of academic and professional excellence in imparting legal education.

The Committee on Recruitment AffairsThe Committee on Recruitment Affairs (CRA) is an integral unit of GNLU which has existed since the very establishment of the University. The primary objective of the Committee concerns enlarging the recruitment prospects of the student body while coordinating with legal houses of all spheres of law in order to generate both, present and future interest in the institution. To ensure a wholesome development of the students, the Committee facilitates a spectrum of internship opportunities for all batches on a running basis, while also organizing annual workshops for exploration of their future prospects in collaboration with an external expert agency.

The CRA consists of a well-organized set of stake holders, ranging from faculty heads, administrative staff, and student members, with each layer contributing to the attainment of the Committee's objectives. The Faculty Convenor, assisted by the administrative staff, seeks to ensure dynamism in the functions of the Committee while expanding the sphere of activities and professional outreach every year. Student members are layered as 'Members of the Committee of Recruitment Affairs', comprising of final year students; 'Members of the Preparatory Committee of Recruitment Affairs', comprising of students of the penultimate year; and 'Members of Pre-Preparatory Committee of Recruitment Affairs', which consists of students from the third academic year. The Committee thus strives to achieve the principle of holistic development while moulding the thoughts and vision of all its stakeholders.

GNLU strives to ensure that the students are not only trained to be sharp legal minds of tomorrow, but also to be physically fit. Incorporating the values of team spirit and discipline, the Sports Committee ensures that the development of students at GNLU is well rounded by organising various individual and team sporting events; both on-field and indoors. The students of the Batch of 2019 have proven their mettle by winning accolades at various inter-university competitions, as well as district and zonal tournaments. With the state of the art infrastructure and equipment, the Sports Committee organises the annual national inter-college sports tournament, aptly christened “Justice League”.
