INSTALLATION OF RADIO TRANSMITTINGEQUIPMENT

Special design considerations are incorporated into this vehicle’s electronic system to provide immunity to radio frequency signals. Mobile two-way radios and telephone equipment must be installed properly by trained person-nel. The following must be observed during installation.

The positive power connection should be made directly to the battery and fused as close to the battery as possible. The negative power connection should be made to body sheet metal adjacent to the negative battery connection. This connection should not be fused.

Antennas for two-way radios should be mounted on the roof or the rear area of the vehicle. Care should be used in mounting antennas with magnet bases. Magnets may affect the accuracy or operation of the compass on vehicles so equipped.

The antenna cable should be as short as practical and routed away from the vehicle wiring when possible. Useonly fully shielded coaxial cable.

Carefully match the antenna and cable to the radio to ensure a low Standing Wave Ratio (SWR).

Mobile radio equipment with output power greater than normal may require special precautions.

All installations should be checked for possible interference between the communications equipment and the vehicle’s electronic systems.

Operating, servicing and maintaining a passenger vehicle or off-highway motor vehicle can expose you to chemicals inclu-ding engine exhaust, carbon monoxide, phthalates, and lead, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. To minimize exposure, avoid breathing exhaust, do not idle the engine except as ne-cessary, service your vehicle in a well-ven-tilated area and wear gloves or wash your hands frequently when servicing your vehicle. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/passenger-vehicle.

10

NOTE:It is good practice to keep the ignition in the OFFposition while conducting Level 1 Charging. Thisminimizes any additional vehicle loads the EVSEhas to support. The additional electrical loadswill extend the high voltage battery chargingtime.

Troubleshooting Using The Status Indicator Display

If the vehicle is not charging properly, consult the status indicator lights.

The AC Power Indicator displays the statusand safety of the input power. If this indi-cator is green, the power is within acceptablelimits to charge the vehicle. If only the ACPower Indicator is flashing red, then there isa problem with the AC power at the electricaloutlet. If the AC Power Indicator does notreturn to green, then the outlet should beinspected by a licensed electrician to ensurethe voltage, frequency, and grounding arecomplaint to national and local electricalcodes and ordinances. It may be possible toattempt charging from a different outlet.

The Fault Indicator displays the status of thePortable EVSE Cordset and the vehicleconnection. The Portable EVSE Cordset willnot allow charging while the fault indicator isred. If it is off, the Portable EVSE Cordset hasnot detected any internal faults, or faultswith the vehicle connection. If the Fault Indi-cator is flashing red, there is a fault detectedeither with the Portable EVSE Cordset, elec-tronics, or with the vehicle connection. ThePortable EVSE Cordset may attempt to retryto provide current to the vehicle if the fault iscleared. If the Portable EVSE Cordset doesnot attempt to provide charge to the vehicle, the charge connector will need to be removedfrom the vehicle to clear the fault.

The fault code list in the following tableprovides a reference for the important faultsthat are detected by the Portable EVSECordset. When a fault is detected, the ACPower Indicator, the Fault Indicator, or boththe AC Power and Fault Indicators will flashred. If only the AC Power Indicator is red, there is a problem on the AC Power side ofthe unit. If only the Fault Indicator isflashing red, there is a problem internal to

the unit or with the vehicle. If both the ACPower and Fault Indicators are flashing red,an over temperature condition is detected ateither the AC plug or within the EVSE enclo-sure. Additional information about the faultsis provided by a fault code that is displayedon the two green Charge Rate Indicators. The fault code consists of four digits, eachwith a value of 1 or 2. The value of a digit isthe number of indicators illuminated forthat part of the sequence. For example, faultcode (1, 2, 1, 1) will display the followingsequence: One indicator will illuminate for0.3 seconds, then two indicators will illumi-nate, then one indicator, and finally oneindicator will illuminate. After all four faultcode digits have been displayed, the indica-tors will remain off for one second beforerepeating the sequence.

AC Level 2 Charging (240V, 30 Amp Or 32 Amp)

AC Level 2 (240 V) charging requires a 240 V,Level 2 EVSE (Charging station). A 30 Amp or32 Amp Level 2 EVSE for home installation isrecommended.

When using public charging stations, ensurethe charging station is ready to providecharge and the vehicle is in PARK before thecharge connector is plugged into thevehicle’s charge inlet. You will hear a “click”when the charge connector is insertedcorrectly and is coupled with the vehicle’scharge inlet. The vehicle should startcharging automatically. If not, please checkthe instructions at the charging station.

NOTE:The vehicle should start charging automati-cally. If not, please check the following:

Charging Station — Check the indicationsand instructions at the charging station.

Charging Schedule — Check whether thecharging schedule is enabled and if so,whether the vehicle is currently within thescheduled charge time/day (weekday/weekend). If the charging schedule is

enabled within the vehicle, you may over-ride them for this charging event by plug-ging in the charge connector, unpluggingit, and then plugging it back into thevehicle charge inlet. Complete the doubleplug sequence within 10 seconds for it tooverride the set schedule.

Hood Ajar — Check whether the hood isopen. Charging is disabled while the hoodis open, and will resume when the hoodcloses.

To stop the charging process:

Press the “STOP” button located on thefront of the EVSE station.

Press the button on the charge connectorfirst and then remove the connector fromthe vehicle charge inlet.

Plug the charge handle into the EVSEstation and coil the charging cord onto itsholder. Do not leave the charging cordlaying on the ground.

Charging Times

The following factors determine the time ittakes to charge the high voltage battery:

The high voltage battery’s current state ofcharge

The type of EVSE used (Level 1 - 120V orLevel 2 – 240V)

Ambient temperature

Whether the vehicle is ON during charging

NOTE:

The charging times below are estimatesbased on charging a high voltage batterythat has a <1% State Of Charge (SOC)value displayed in the instrument cluster.

Charging times will vary based on the age, condition, state of charge, availablecurrent being provided to the charger fromits energy source, and temperature of thehigh voltage battery.

15

Charging times may be longer if a thermalself-protection reduces the chargingcurrent from the EVSE.

If the vehicle’s ignition is in either the ACCor RUN position, the vehicle charge indi-cator may not indicate greater than a 99%state of charge, and will continue to chargethe vehicle, due to the vehicle loads.

Vehicle Charge Indicators

Instrument Cluster High Voltage Battery Display

There is a battery display indicator located onthe instrument cluster. The battery displaywill display the current state of charge for thehigh voltage battery; with the percentagevalue located to the left of the symbol. Whenplugged in, the battery symbol also gives thebattery level along with messages about thecharge or whether the system is waiting tocharge due to the charge schedule. These

will appear unless there is a charging fault. Agreen plug telltale will be shown in thecluster, as well as applicable messagingwhen charging.

High Voltage Battery Display

Instrument Panel State Of Charge Indicator

In addition to the battery display in theinstrument cluster, your vehicle is equippedwith a visual state of charge indicator. Thestate of charge indicator is made up of fivelights that are mounted to the top center ofthe instrument panel, which will illuminatewhen the vehicle is plugged into the EVSE.

State Of Charge Indicator

The state of charge indicator provides avisual indication of the high voltage battery’scharge status during charging. It’s also usedto indicate a charging problem, as well as,waiting for a scheduled charge to begin.

Battery Saver On/Battery Saver Mode Message — Electrical Load Reduction Actions — If Equipped

The vehicle is equipped with an IntelligentBattery Sensor (IBS) to perform additionalmonitoring of the 12 volt electrical systemand status of the 12 volt vehicle battery.

In cases when the IBS detects chargingsystem failure, or the 12 volt vehicle batteryconditions are deteriorating, electrical loadreduction actions will take place to extendthe driving time and distance of the vehicle. This is done by reducing power to or turningoff non-essential 12 volt electrical loads.Load reduction will be functional when thevehicle propulsion system is active.

The vehicle may not be running depending onthe High Voltage (HV) battery SOC ortemperature. It will display a message ifthere is a risk of battery depletion to the pointwhere the vehicle may stall due to lack ofelectrical supply, or will not restart after thecurrent drive cycle.

When 12 volt load reduction is activated, themessage “Battery Saver On” or “BatterySaver Mode” will appear in the InstrumentCluster Display.

These messages indicate the 12 volt vehiclebattery has a low state of charge andcontinues to lose electrical charge at a ratethat the charging system cannot sustain.

NOTE:

The charging system is independent fromload reduction. The charging systemperforms a diagnostic on the chargingsystem continuously.

If the Battery Charge Warning Light is on itmay indicate a problem with the chargingsystem. Refer to “Battery Charge WarningLight” in ”Warning Lights And Messages”for further information.

The electrical loads that may be switched off(if equipped), and vehicle functions whichcan be affected by load reduction:

Heated Seat/Vented Seats/Heated Wheel

Heated/Cooled Cup Holders — If Equipped

Rear Defroster And Heated Mirrors

HVAC System

115V AC Power Inverter System

Audio and Telematics System

Loss of the battery charge may indicate oneor more of the following conditions:

The charging system cannot deliverenough electrical power to the vehiclesystem because the electrical loads arelarger than the capability of chargingsystem, even though the charging systemis still functioning properly.

Turning on all possible vehicle electricalloads (e.g. HVAC to max settings, exteriorand interior lights, overloaded poweroutlets +12V, 115V AC, USB ports) duringcertain driving conditions (city driving, frequent stopping).

Installing options like additional lights, upfitter electrical accessories, audiosystems, alarms and similar devices.

Unusual driving cycles (short trips sepa-rated by long parking periods).

The vehicle was parked for an extendedperiod of time (weeks, months).

The 12 volt battery was recently replacedand was not charged completely.

2020_CHRYSLER_PACIFICA_HYBRID_SUPP_USA=GUID-876DAAE8-C65F-4BC7-BAA9-813BB1426F1D=1=en=.book Page 37

38

The 12 volt battery was discharged by anelectrical load left on when the vehicle wasparked.

The 12 volt battery was used for anextended period with the vehicle notrunning to supply radio, lights, chargers,+12V portable appliances like vacuumcleaner’s, game consoles and similardevices.

What to do when an electrical load reductionaction message is present (“Battery Saver On”or “Battery Saver Mode”)

During a trip:

Reduce power to unnecessary loads ifpossible:

Turn off redundant lights (interior orexterior)

Check what may be plugged in topower outlets +12V, 115V AC, USBports

Check HVAC settings (blower,temperature)

Check the audio settings (volume)

After a trip:

Check if any aftermarket equipment wasinstalled (additional lights, upfitter elec-trical accessories, audio systems, alarms)and review specifications if any (load andIgnition Off Draw currents).

Evaluate the latest driving cycles(distance, driving time and parking time).

The vehicle should have service performedif the message is still present duringconsecutive trips and the evaluation of thevehicle and driving pattern did not help toidentify the cause.

WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGESThe warning/indicator lights will illuminate inthe instrument panel together with a dedi-cated message and/or acoustic signal whenapplicable. These indications are indicativeand precautionary and as such must not beconsidered as exhaustive and/or alternativeto the information contained in the Owner’sManual, which you are advised to read care-fully in all cases. Always refer to the informa-tion in this chapter in the event of a failureindication. All active telltales will display

The Engine Check/Malfunction IndicatorLight (MIL) is a part of an Onboard Diag-nostic System called OBD II that monitorsengine and automatic transmission controlsystems. This warning light will illuminatewhen the ignition is in the ON/RUN positionbefore engine start. If the bulb does not comeon when turning the key from OFF to ON/RUN, have the condition checked promptly.

The vehicle should be serviced if the lightstays on through several typical drivingstyles. In most situations, the vehicle willdrive normally.

When the engine is running, the MIL mayflash to alert serious conditions that couldlead to immediate loss of power or severecatalytic converter damage. The vehicleshould be serviced as soon as possible if thisoccurs.

— Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Warning Light

The warning light switches on and a messageis displayed to indicate that the tire pressureis lower than the recommended value and/orthat slow pressure loss is occurring. In thesecases, optimal tire duration and fuelconsumption may not be guaranteed.

Should one or more tires be in the conditionmentioned above, the display will show theindications corresponding to each tire.

Each tire, including the spare (if provided),should be checked monthly when cold andinflated to the inflation pressure recom-mended by the vehicle manufacturer on thevehicle placard or tire inflation pressurelabel. (If your vehicle has tires of a different

WARNING!

A malfunctioning catalytic converter, asreferenced above, can reach highertemperatures than in normal operatingconditions. This can cause a fire if youdrive slowly or park over flammablesubstances such as dry plants, wood, cardboard, etc. This could result in deathor serious injury to the driver, occupants orothers.

CAUTION!

Prolonged driving with the MalfunctionIndicator Light (MIL) on could causedamage to the vehicle control system. Italso could affect fuel economy anddriveability. If the MIL is flashing, severecatalytic converter damage and power losswill soon occur. Immediate service isrequired.

CAUTION!

Do not continue driving with one or moreflat tires as handling may be compromised.Stop the vehicle, avoiding sharp brakingand steering. If a tire puncture occurs, repair immediately using the dedicated tirerepair kit and contact an authorized dealeras soon as possible.

size than the size indicated on the vehicleplacard or tire inflation pressure label, youshould determine the proper tire inflationpressure for those tires.)

As an added safety feature, your vehicle hasbeen equipped with a Tire Pressure Moni-toring System (TPMS) that illuminates a lowtire pressure telltale when one or more of yourtires is significantly under-inflated. Accord-ingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illu-minates, you should stop and check yourtires as soon as possible, and inflate them tothe proper pressure. Driving on a significantlyunder-inflated tire causes the tire to overheatand can lead to tire failure. Under-inflationalso reduces fuel efficiency and tire treadlife, and may affect the vehicle’s handlingand stopping ability.

Please note that the TPMS is not a substitutefor proper tire maintenance, and it is thedriver’s responsibility to maintain correct tirepressure, even if under-inflation has notreached the level to trigger illumination ofthe TPMS low tire pressure telltale.

Your vehicle has also been equipped with aTPMS malfunction indicator to indicate whenthe system is not operating properly. TheTPMS malfunction indicator is combinedwith the low tire pressure telltale. When thesystem detects a malfunction, the telltale willflash for approximately one minute and thenremain continuously illuminated. Thissequence will continue upon subsequentvehicle start-ups as long as the malfunctionexists. When the malfunction indicator isilluminated, the system may not be able todetect or signal low tire pressure as intended.TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety ofreasons, including the installation of replace-ment or alternate tires or wheels on thevehicle that prevent the TPMS from func-tioning properly. Always check the TPMSmalfunction telltale after replacing one ormore tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensurethat the replacement or alternate tires andwheels allow the TPMS to continue to func-tion properly.

CAUTION!

The TPMS has been optimized for theoriginal equipment tires and wheels. TPMSpressures and warning have beenestablished for the tire size equipped onyour vehicle. Undesirable system operationor sensor damage may result when usingreplacement equipment that is not of thesame size, type, and/or style. Aftermarketwheels can cause sensor damage. Usingaftermarket tire sealants may cause theTire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)sensor to become inoperable. After usingan aftermarket tire sealant it isrecommended that you take your vehicle toyour authorized dealer to have your sensorfunction checked.

ONBOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM — OBD II Your vehicle is equipped with a sophisticatedOnboard Diagnostic system called OBD II.This system monitors the performance of theemissions, engine, and automatic transmis-sion control systems. When these systems areoperating properly, your vehicle will provideexcellent performance and fuel economy, aswell as emissions well within current govern-ment regulations.

If any of these systems require service, theOBD II system will turn on the MalfunctionIndicator Light (MIL). It will also store diag-nostic codes and other information to assistyour service technician in making repairs.Although your vehicle will usually be drivableand not need towing, see an authorizeddealer for service as soon as possible.

Onboard Diagnostic System (OBD II) Cybersecurity

Your vehicle is required to have an OnboardDiagnostic system (OBD II) and a connectionport to allow access to information related tothe performance of your emissions controls.Authorized service technicians may need toaccess this information to assist with thediagnosis and service of your vehicle andemissions system.

For further information, refer to “Cybersecu-rity” in “Multimedia” in the Owner’s Manual.

EMISSIONS INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS In some localities, it may be a legal require-ment to pass an inspection of your vehicle'semissions control system. Failure to passcould prevent vehicle registration.

For states that require an Inspec-tion and Maintenance (I/M) test, this check verifies the Malfunction

CAUTION!

Prolonged driving with the MIL on couldcause further damage to the emissioncontrol system. It could also affect fueleconomy and driveability. The vehiclemust be serviced before any emissionstests can be performed.

If the MIL is flashing while the vehicle isrunning, severe catalytic converterdamage and power loss will soon occur.Immediate service is required.

WARNING!

ONLY an authorized service technicianshould connect equipment to the OBD IIconnection port in order to read the VIN,diagnose, or service your vehicle.

If unauthorized equipment is connectedto the OBD II connection port, such as adriver-behavior tracking device, it may:

Indicator Light (MIL) is functioning and isnot on when the engine is running, and thatthe OBD II system is ready for testing.

Normally, the OBD II system will be ready. The OBD II system may not be ready if yourvehicle was recently serviced, recently had adepleted battery or a battery replacement. Ifthe OBD II system should be determined notready for the I/M test, your vehicle may failthe test.

Your vehicle has a simple ignition actuatedtest, which you can use prior to going to thetest station. To check if your vehicle's OBD IIsystem is ready, you must do the following:

1. Cycle the ignition switch to the ON posi-tion, but do not crank or start the engine.

NOTE:If you crank or start the engine, you will haveto start this test over.

2. As soon as you cycle the ignition switch tothe ON position, you will see the“Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)”symbol come on as part of a normal bulbcheck.

3. Approximately 15 seconds later, one oftwo things will happen:

The MIL will flash for about 10seconds and then return to being fullyilluminated until you turn OFF the igni-tion or start the engine. This meansthat your vehicle's OBD II system is notready and you should not proceed tothe I/M station.

The MIL will not flash at all and willremain fully illuminated until youplace the ignition in the off position orstart the engine. This means that yourvehicle's OBD II system is ready andyou can proceed to the I/M station.

If your OBD II system is not ready, you shouldsee an authorized dealer or repair facility. Ifyour vehicle was recently serviced or had abattery failure or replacement, you may needto do nothing more than drive your vehicle asyou normally would in order for your OBD IIsystem to update. A recheck with the abovetest routine may then indicate that thesystem is now ready.

Regardless of whether your vehicle's OBD IIsystem is ready or not, if the MIL is illumi-nated during normal vehicle operation youshould have your vehicle serviced beforegoing to the I/M station. The I/M station canfail your vehicle because the MIL is on withthe engine running.

SAFETY

SAFETY FEATURESRegenerative Braking System (RBS)

Your vehicle has a Regenerative BrakingSystem (RBS). The RBS replenishes thevehicle's high voltage battery during deceler-ation, and is particularly useful instop-and-go city traffic. The electric motorswhich propel the vehicle forward can operateas generators when braking. The RBSrecharges the high voltage battery undercertain braking conditions by recapturingenergy that would otherwise be lost whilebraking. The electric power that is generatedgoes back into the high voltage battery forlater use, for example when acceleration isdesired.

The RBS uses conventional hydraulic frictionbrakes, regenerative braking, or a combina-tion to slow the vehicle. If the system detectsslippery conditions while braking, ONLY fric-tion is used to slow the vehicle. The RBS canresult in extended life of the hydraulic servicebrakes; however, all inspection, scheduled

maintenance, and service intervals for thevehicle service brakes must be followed.

Audible Pedestrian Warning System

Your vehicle is equipped with an AudiblePedestrian Warning System. The AudiblePedestrian Warning System uses distinctsounds to alert pedestrians that your vehicleis approaching. In addition, the module willindicate changes in vehicle speed by varyingthe relative volume.

The system uses an in-vehicle sound synthe-sizer with two external speakers. One islocated in the under-hood compartment andthe other is in the rear of the vehicle. TheAudible Pedestrian Warning System is activewhen the vehicle is not in PARK and is trav-eling at lower speeds. Depending on theselected gear (REVERSE, DRIVE, LOW orNEUTRAL), the system activates the corre-sponding speaker location based on theintended direction of travel.

NOTE:The system is active when driving in electricmode only.

FUSES General Information

The fuses protect electrical systems againstexcessive current.

When a device does not work, you mustcheck the fuse element inside the blade fusefor a break/melt.

Also, please be aware that when using poweroutlets for extended periods of time with thevehicle off may result in vehicle batterydischarge.

Blade Fuses

Underhood Fuses

The Power Distribution Center (PDC) islocated in the engine compartment near thedriver’s side hood hinge. This center containscartridge fuses, mini-fuses, micro-fuses,circuit breakers and relays. A label that iden-tifies each component is printed on theinside of the cover.

Before any procedure is done on the PDC,make sure the vehicle ignition mode is OFF.

Remove the cover by unlatching the two lockslocated at each side of the PDC cover, avoidthe usage of screw drivers or any other tool toremove the cover, since they may applyexcessive force and result on a broken/damaged part.

After service is done, secure the cover withits two locks.

WARNING!

When replacing a blown fuse, always usean appropriate replacement fuse with thesame amp rating as the original fuse.Never replace a fuse with another fuse ofhigher amp rating. Never replace a blownfuse with metal wires or any other mate-rial. Do not place a fuse inside a circuitbreaker cavity or vice versa. Failure touse proper fuses may result in seriouspersonal injury, fire and/or propertydamage.

Before replacing a fuse, make sure thatthe ignition is off and that all the otherservices are switched off and/or disen-gaged.

If the replaced fuse blows again, contactan authorized dealer.

If a general protection fuse for safetysystems (air bag system, brakingsystem), power unit systems (enginesystem, transmission system) or steeringsystem blows, contact an authorizeddealer.

JACKING AND TIRE CHANGING — IF EQUIPPED Your vehicle is not equipped with a jack orspare tire. If the vehicle tire cannot bere-inflated, using the portable air compressorwith sealant provided with the vehicle, thentowing of the vehicle may be necessary.

JUMP STARTING The vehicle requires its 12V battery power to“turn-on” the vehicle's high voltage battery. The high voltage battery is used to charge the12V battery, provide electric vehicle opera-tion, and to start the vehicle's gas engine. Ifthe 12V battery has been discharged, the

vehicle can be jump started using a set ofjumper cables and a battery in anothervehicle or by using a portable battery boosterpack.

If the vehicle's high voltage battery has alsobeen discharged, it will need to be rechargedbefore the vehicle can be started:

If the vehicle can be connected to a Level1 or Level 2 charger where it is currentlyparked, the vehicle will still require a jumpstart to allow the vehicle to begin thebattery charging process. Once the vehiclecharging has begun (indicated by thecharge status indicator on top the vehicle'sinstrument panel), the jumper cables canbe removed from the vehicle jump posts.

If the vehicle cannot be connected to aLevel 1 or Level 2 charger where it iscurrently parked, the vehicle can be movedby connecting 12V power to the vehicle'sjump posts and then shifting the transmis-sion from PARK (P) into NEUTRAL (N).Power provided by the jumper cables willalso allow the Electric Park Brake to bereleased. Carefully move the vehicle to aLevel 1 or Level 2 charge location. Whilethe vehicle is being moved, the external12V power must remained connected tothe vehicle jump posts.

NOTE:Be careful when moving the vehicle - ensurethat control of the vehicle is maintained.

Also, ensure that vehicle is secured toprevent unintentional movement during andafter moving the vehicle. If the external 12Vpower becomes disconnected from thevehicle jump posts or there is an interruptionof the 12V power while moving the vehicle, the vehicle's transmission may engage PARK.

When the vehicle is at the charging location, shift the transmission back to PARK, applythe electric park brake, and start the highvoltage battery charging. Once the vehiclehas been secured against unintentionalmovement and high voltage battery charginghas been initiated, the jumper cables can beremoved from the vehicle jump posts.

Jump starting can be dangerous if doneimproperly so please follow the procedures inthis section carefully.

NOTE:When using a portable battery booster pack, follow the manufacturer’s operating instruc-tions and precautions.

Preparations For Jump Start

Engine Coolant Checks

Check the engine coolant (antifreeze) protec-tion every 12 months (before the onset offreezing weather, where applicable). If theengine coolant (antifreeze) is dirty, thesystem should be drained, flushed, andrefilled with fresh OAT coolant (conformingto MS.90032) by an authorized dealer.Check the front of the A/C condenser for anyaccumulation of bugs, leaves, etc. If dirty, clean by gently spraying water from a gardenhose vertically down the face of thecondenser.

NOTE:If the engine coolant protection is changed, you must also adjust the coolant protectionfor the Battery/Electrical systems. Refer to“Electric/Battery Coolant System” in thissection for further information.

Check the engine cooling system hoses forbrittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, andtightness of the connection at the coolantrecovery bottle and radiator. Inspect theentire system for leaks. DO NOT REMOVETHE COOLANT PRESSURE CAP WHEN THECOOLING SYSTEM IS HOT.

Cooling System — Drain, Flush And Refill

NOTE:Some vehicles require special tools to addcoolant properly. Failure to fill these systemsproperly could lead to severe internal engineor electrical system damage. If any coolant isneeded to be added to the system pleasecontact an authorized dealer.

If the engine coolant (antifreeze) is dirty orcontains visible sediment, have an autho-rized dealer clean and flush with OAT coolant(antifreeze) (conforming to MS.90032).

Refer to the “Maintenance Plan” in thissection for the proper maintenance intervals.

Electric/Battery Coolant System

These coolant systems must be serviced byan authorized dealer. If the coolant level isbelow what is specified on the reservoir, contact an authorized dealer for service.

These systems require the use of high puritywater, such as deionized, or distilled water, when mixing the water and coolant (anti-freeze) solution. The use of lower qualitywater will reduce the amount of corrosionprotection in the cooling systems. If the

coolant level of the battery coolant system islow, the wrench warning light will be illumi-nated on the instrument cluster.

Selection Of Coolant

Refer to “Fluids And Lubricants” in “Tech-nical Specifications” for further information.

NOTE:

Mixing of engine coolant (antifreeze) otherthan specified Organic Additive Tech-nology (OAT) engine coolant (antifreeze),may result in engine damage and maydecrease corrosion protection. OrganicAdditive Technology (OAT) engine coolantis different and should not be mixed withHybrid Organic Additive Technology(HOAT) engine coolant (antifreeze) or any“globally compatible” coolant (antifreeze). If a non-OAT engine coolant (antifreeze) isintroduced into the cooling system in anemergency, the cooling system will need tobe drained, flushed, and refilled with freshOAT coolant (conforming to MS.90032),by an authorized dealer as soon aspossible.

Do not use water alone or alcohol-basedengine coolant (antifreeze) products. Do

2020_CHRYSLER_PACIFICA_HYBRID_SUPP_USA=GUID-876DAAE8-C65F-4BC7-BAA9-813BB1426F1D=1=en=.book Page 91

92

not use additional rust inhibitors or anti-rust products, as they may not be compat-ible with the radiator engine coolant andmay plug the radiator.

This vehicle has not been designed for usewith propylene glycol-based enginecoolant (antifreeze). Use of propyleneglycolbased engine coolant (antifreeze) isnot recommended.

Some vehicles require special tools to addcoolant properly. Failure to fill thesesystems properly could lead to severeinternal engine damage. If any coolant isneeded to be added to the system pleasecontact an authorized dealer.

Adding Coolant

Your vehicle has been built with an improvedcoolant (OAT coolant conforming toMS.90032) that allows extended mainte-nance intervals. This coolant (antifreeze) canbe used up to ten years or 150,000 miles(240,000 km) before replacement. Toprevent reducing this extended maintenanceperiod, it is important that you use the samecoolant (OAT coolant conforming toMS.90032) throughout the life of yourvehicle.

Please review these recommendations forusing Organic Additive Technology (OAT)coolant (antifreeze) that meets the require-ments of FCA Material Standard MS.90032.When adding coolant (antifreeze):

We recommend using Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 10 Year/150,000 Mile(240,000 km) Formula OAT (OrganicAdditive Technology) that meets therequirements of FCA Material StandardMS.90032.

Mix a minimum solution of 50% OATcoolant that meets the requirements ofFCA Material Standard MS.90032 anddeionized, or distilled water. Use higherconcentrations (not to exceed 70%) iftemperatures below −34°F (−37°C) areanticipated.

Please note that it is the owner's responsi-bility to maintain the proper level of protec-tion against freezing according to thetemperatures occurring in the area where thevehicle is operated.

NOTE:

Mixing coolant (antifreeze) types is notrecommended and can result in coolingsystem damage. If HOAT and OAT coolantare mixed in an emergency, have a autho-rized dealer drain, flush, and refill withOAT coolant (conforming to MS.90032) assoon as possible.

Low pressure expansion bottles for powerelectronics and battery cooling require aspecial tool for removing the cap from theexpansion bottle. For the battery coolantbottle, it is important to not add coolant iflevel is low. The vehicle should be taken toan authorized dealer for proper servicing ofthe battery coolant loop if this shouldoccur.

Cooling System Pressure Cap

The cap must be fully tightened to preventloss of engine coolant (antifreeze), and toensure that engine coolant (antifreeze) will

CAUTION!

Use only high purity water such asdeionized, or distilled water when mixingthe water/ coolant (antifreeze) solution forthe engine, battery or high voltageelectronics cooling systems. The use oflower quality water will reduce the amountof corrosion protection in the enginecooling system.

93

return to the radiator from the coolant expan-sion bottle/recovery tank if so equipped.

The cap should be inspected and cleaned ifthere is any accumulation of foreign materialon the sealing surfaces.

Disposal Of Used Coolant

Used ethylene glycol-based coolant (anti-freeze) is a regulated substance requiringproper disposal. Check with your localauthorities to determine the disposal rules foryour community. To prevent ingestion byanimals or children, do not store ethylene

glycol-based coolant in open containers orallow it to remain in puddles on the ground. If ingested by a child or pet, seek emergencyassistance immediately. Clean up any groundspills immediately.

Coolant Level

The coolant expansion bottle provides aquick visual method for determining that thecoolant level is adequate. With the engine offand cold, the level of the coolant (antifreeze)in the bottle should be between the “MAX”and “MIN” lines marked on the bottle.

As long as the engine operating temperatureis satisfactory, the coolant bottle need onlybe checked once a month.

When additional coolant (antifreeze) isneeded to maintain the proper level, it shouldbe added to the coolant bottle. Do not over-fill.

See an authorized dealer for service.

Points To Remember

NOTE:When the vehicle is stopped after a fewmiles/kilometers of operation, you mayobserve vapor coming from the front of the

engine compartment. This is normally aresult of moisture from rain, snow, or highhumidity accumulating on the radiator andbeing vaporized when the thermostat opens, allowing hot engine coolant (antifreeze) toenter the radiator.

If an examination of the engine compartmentshows no evidence of radiator or hose leaks, the vehicle may be safely driven. The vaporwill soon dissipate.

Do not overfill the coolant expansionbottle.

Check the coolant freeze point in the radi-ator and in the coolant expansion bottle. Ifengine coolant (antifreeze) needs to beadded, the contents of the coolant expan-sion bottle must also be protected againstfreezing.

If frequent engine coolant (antifreeze)additions are required, the cooling systemshould be pressure tested for leaks.

Maintain coolant (antifreeze) concentra-tion at a minimum of 50% OAT coolant(conforming to MS.90032) and deionized,or distilled water.

WARNING!

Do not open hot engine cooling system.Never add engine coolant (antifreeze)when the engine is overheated. Do notloosen or remove the cap to cool an over-heated engine. Heat causes pressure tobuild up in the cooling system. Toprevent scalding or injury, do not removethe pressure cap while the system is hotor under pressure.

Do not use a pressure cap other than theone specified for your vehicle. Personalinjury or engine damage may result.

Use only high purity water such as deion-ized, or distilled water when mixing thewater/coolant (antifreeze) solution for theengine, battery or high voltage electronicscooling systems. The use of lower qualitywater will reduce the amount of corrosionprotection in the cooling system.

Make sure that the coolant expansionbottle overflow hoses are not kinked orobstructed.

Keep the front of the radiator clean. If yourvehicle is equipped with air conditioning, keep the front of the condenser clean.

Do not change the thermostat for Summeror Winter operation. If replacement is evernecessary, install ONLY the correct typethermostat. Other designs may result inunsatisfactory engine coolant (antifreeze)performance, poor gas mileage, andincreased emissions.

The coolant freeze point in the battery andpower electronics loop should be checkedby an authorized dealer as a special tool isrequired to remove the cap from thoseexpansion bottles.

Electric/Battery coolant system must beserviced by an authorized dealer. If thecoolant level is below what is specified onthe reservoir, contact an authorized dealerfor service. These systems require the useof high purity water such as deionized, ordistilled water when mixing the water andcoolant (antifreeze) solution. The use oflower quality water will reduce the amountof corrosion protection in the coolingsystems.

STORING THE VEHICLEIf the vehicle should remain stationary formore than a month, observe the followingprecautions:

Park your vehicle in a covered, dry andpossibly airy location with the windowsopen slightly.

Check that the Electric Park Brake is notengaged.

Disconnect the negative (-) terminal fromthe battery post and be sure that thebattery is fully charged. During storagecheck battery charge quarterly.

NOTE:Disconnecting the 12 volt battery will preventthe High Voltage (HV) Battery from acceptinga charge from the Electric Vehicle SupplyEquipment (EVSE). Also, the vehicle will notcondition the HV Battery (if needed andconnected to a powered EVSE). If the HVBattery is not able to condition itself and itbecomes cold enough (or hot enough), thevehicle will not start until the HV Battery’scell temperatures are between -22°F (-30°C)and 122°F (50°C).

If you do not disconnect the battery fromthe electrical system, check the batterycharge every 30 days.

Clean and protect the painted parts byapplying protective waxes.

Clean and protect polished metal parts byapplying protective waxes.

95

Cover the vehicle with an appropriate covertaking care not to damage the paintedsurface by dragging across dirty surfaces.Do not use plastic sheeting which will notallow the evaporation of moisture presenton the surface of the vehicle.

Inflate the tires at a pressure of +7.25 psi(+0.5 bar) higher than recommended onthe tire placard and check it periodically.

Do not drain the vehicle cooling system.

Whenever you leave the vehicle stationaryfor two weeks or more, idle the vehicle forapproximately five minutes, with the airconditioning system on and high fanspeed. This will ensure proper lubricationof the system, thus minimizing the possi-bility of damage to the compressor whenthe vehicle is put back into operation.

Plug in the vehicle when not using it when-ever possible.

NOTE:The hybrid has feature of periodic wake-upthat occurs every 21 days. This featurecharges the 12V battery from the high voltagebattery. This will happen as long as the highvoltage battery remains above the minimumstate of charge. Refer to “Starting TheVehicle” in “Starting And Operating” forfurther information.

CAUTION!

Before removal of the positive and negativeterminals to the battery, wait at least aminute with ignition switch in the OFFposition and close the drivers door. Whenreconnecting the positive and negativeterminals to the battery be sure theignition switch is in the OFF position andthe drivers door is closed.

Mixing of engine coolant (antifreeze)other than specified Organic AdditiveTechnology (OAT) engine coolant (anti-freeze), may result in engine damage andmay decrease corrosion protection.Organic Additive Technology (OAT)engine coolant is different and shouldnot be mixed with Hybrid Organic Addi-tive Technology (HOAT) engine coolant(antifreeze) or any “globally compatible”coolant (antifreeze). If a non-OAT enginecoolant (antifreeze) is introduced intothe cooling system in an emergency, thecooling system will need to be drained, flushed, and refilled with fresh OATcoolant (conforming to MS.90032), byan authorized dealer as soon as possible.

Do not use water alone or alcohol-basedengine coolant (antifreeze) products. Donot use additional rust inhibitors or anti-rust products, as they may not becompatible with the radiator enginecoolant and may plug the radiator.

This vehicle has not been designed foruse with propylene glycol-based enginecoolant (antifreeze). Use of propyleneglycol-based engine coolant (antifreeze)is not recommended.
