6

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The 58th season of cricket on the Plateau is a worthy edition for the Club’s annals, continuing the diversity of activity, off-field club

development and on-field success established over the past decade and a half. The retention of both the Junior and Senior Club Championships reflects the strong performances put in by our playing squads this season. Our under 13, 14 and 15 squads won junior titles, our 6

th Grade development squad claimed its fourth successive premiership and our senior T20 team went back to back after

defeating the highly fancied Manly Grade in another memorable Grand Final. Without a premiership to show for their outstanding efforts, our under 16/18s were beaten on the last ball of the season, and our First Grade squad made the Grand Final.

The T20 Grand Final is worthy of special mention for a number of reasons. CPCC’s epic victory over the Manly Grade Club at Griffith Park was part of the first live broadcast of local cricket thanks to Northern Beaches Radio. It was quite a novelty to be at home doing the chores during the earlier ‘Plate’ final hearing familiar names and listening to their exploits being analysed along with ball by ball description of the action. Thanks to Tom Carden, we could also stay up to date with the progress of our two senior Grand Final teams in March via the internet as Tom ran an almost ball by ball commentary blog from Nolans on the website. With live scoring and mobile connection we look forward to enjoying club cricket from a completely new angle. Back to the T20, and our victory was also ironic in that the highly fancied Manly Grade team comprised a number of Plateau Juniors including Sam Gainsford, James Boyer, Ash Virdi, James Trickey and Matt Cole. The loss aside, it was great to see these guys doing so well in their cricket. Thanks to Nirav Patel for pulling this squad together and leading them to our second great T20 title.

Several individual players are worth special mention for their performances this past season. Our ‘New Generation’ of players are excelling themselves as Jake Carden won the Junior Association’s prestigious ‘Eric Palmer Bat Award’ for best cricketer and Nick Bonner won the Senior Association’s ‘Jill Pearce Rising Star Award’. Nick’s win was the club’s third in a row with Mitch Curran and Dan Schimek winning before him. Junior player Arbhijeet Virdi took the astounding figures of 9 for 2 whilst playing for the MWJCA Rep team against Blacktown. The biggest story of the year however was Toby Horstead’s amazing season with the bat. Toby compiled a season total of 999 runs which included four centuries (one in 4

th

Grade and three in 6th Grade). This performance smashed Jason Ferris’ Club record of 755 for most runs in a season, set a new

Association 6th Grade record and together with a remarkable 22 catches for a non-keeper won the Bruce Shearer Trophy with 1619

points. I should also point out that Dave Moss’ 760 runs this season also broke Jas’ record.

It hasn’t taken long for ‘The Hut’ to become the focal point for club activity at Plateau Park. The small but well equipped facility provided our home teams with access to the portable shelters, fridges, scoreboard, barbeque and test cricket updates via the TV. Whilst the In2Cricket program was running prior to Christmas, Plateau Park was the place to be on Friday evenings. The Hut provided the drinks and barbeque as parents relaxed on picnic rugs and the kids continued to play well after their training finished. We look forward to this continuing next season and our fingers are crossed for plenty of balmy summer weather for our Friday Family nights. Thanks to Kim and Louise Blacker and Adam Ward for their assistance behind the BBQ and counter.

Financially the Club remains in a strong position thanks to sponsorship money received from our supporters the Brookvale Hotel and Lateral Corporation. Lateral’s sponsorship will allow the Club to implement a Junior Training program proposed to coincide with the start of the 2013/14 season. The aim of the program is to provide professional coaching sessions for many of our junior players to ensure correct fundamentals and accelerated skill development. Our junior coaches will also have the opportunity to develop their skills and training techniques/activities. An additional session is planned for our representative players to help prepare them for their pending rep seasons with the MWJCA. A number of financial challenges are looming for the club as costs continue to spiral up in terms of player insurance for the juniors and umpire fees for the seniors. Hopefully new revenue streams will be developed over the next few seasons such as Kiosk income and Marketown commission to enable us to keep playing fees to a minimum. Despite recent increases, Senior fees still equate to about $10 per week for playing cricket. Add to this drink vouchers back at the Brooky each week and other event hospitality throughout the season and our membership still represents excellent value. CPCC joined the Marketown community program this season however participation by Club members has been slow to develop. I have made several purchases of birthday gifts and restaurant offers so far through Marketown and can vouch for the quality of the offers I’ve taken up. It is even more satisfying knowing that 10% of my money has gone to CPCC and another 10% to Marketown’s nominated charity – The Sargood Centre at Collaroy. I encourage all Club members to take a look at the Marketown weekly offers and support local businesses and CPCC.

Sadly the club experienced the passing of Joan Hunt and life member Joy Lidgard during the 12/13 season. Both ladies have been an integral part of the social life of our Club since the very first day as partners of Ken and Milton and were regulars at the Junior picnic and presentation day until this year. Joy’s hospitality and perseverance whilst ‘The Hut’ operated out of the Lidgard’s Essilea St house for many years earned her a life membership.

As I write this report, the Club is set to send twenty-two tourists to England for the third time. The playing squad looks to be the strongest we’ve sent abroad yet to tackle what promises to be a fantastic itinery with quality fixtures in new territories. Dom Wheeler, Steve Albanese and Jeff Porter-Dening are touring for the first time and together with the already experienced tourist at the age of fifteen Jake Carden and brother Tom, represent some of the Club’s finest young cricketers. I also welcome Wakehurst’s Ryan Valentine and Cromer’s Brett Holliday to the Club for the tour and welcome back Manly Breakers’ Dave Lang and Artie Smith who are touring for the 3

rd and 2

nd time respectively.

I would like to thank the Club committee and the Touring Committee once again for their great contributions not only for CPCC but also for cricket in our district. I wish all the cricketing best to our tourists and look forward to their return and the start of the fifty-eighth season for the Club

SECRETARY’S REPORT

Collaroy Plateau had another excellent season on the field with 5 of our 6 teams making the finals and a Premiership for our 6th Grade

team. This is the fourth year in a row our development team has won the competition. For the third year in a row we brought back the Club Championship silverware and Nirav Patel captained the Plateau to Collaroy’s second consecutive T20 title in the game that rivalled our amazing victory in the T20 Grand Final last year. Congratulations to Jake Carden on Captaining our development team to it’s fourth consecutive title. The Club can be very proud of both the efforts that go into bringing our juniors through to afternoon cricket and also the fact that they have been so successful. For the first time in many years we had two teams in the same grade, which we know can cause some intra-club rivallry, so it was very pleasing these teams competed well and played the games against each other in excellent spirit. The following tables summarises where the Plateau Senior teams finished in the regular and post seasons:

Juniors - CPCC fielded another 2 Kanga Teams and 12 Junior Teams this season, with the U13 Electrodes, U14 Energy & U15 Force all winning their respective grades. The Juniors also successfully defended their Club Championship. I am very proud of the quality of the Juniors the Club has produced. I would never want to hold back any of our talented juniors from a career in cricket and representing the district in Manly Grade, but I hope the Pathways program does not mislead any of our young cricketers. Any Junior who finds themselves stuck in Shires cricket is always welcome back at Collaroy Plateau. Financial - The financial position of the Club remains strong. Thanks to Tony Johnson for the generous sponsorship, which the club has used to pay for new equipment and junior development. Our Brookvale Hotel sponsorship has continued for another season. The Brooky has also subsidised another Presentation night for the Seniors, a Thankyou night for all the people who have helped organise the Juniors each year, and the Bar Tabs for the Players on a Saturday evening. All of these have been most graciously accepted. Fees will be increasing to $250 this season, due to ever increasing costs. Our main increase has been the payments for Umpires, but the general concensus is this has definitely been worthwhile. A reminder to all players to get their fees in as early as possible. Thanks again to Treasurer Toby. Plateau Park - The Tennis Shed at Vic Huxley Oval has been used extensively throughout the 2012/13 season. I can vouch for the use that the fridge and Sony Bravia TV received during many Wednesday evening training sessions. The juniors also made full use of our new facility on many Friday nights. On Saturdays, the facility is used all day with drinks for the juniors and parents in the morning and the Seniors who gave the new pie warmer a thorough workout. While we understand the locals are pleased with the reduction in noise from locals that used to frequent the old Tennis Shed, however it is sad to report the Shed was vandalised during the season at significant cost to the club. Please contact the club if you have any information about this. Twenty/20 - Another incredible season with the T20 side this year. Considering we had to forfeit the first match due to lack of players, it was an amazing effort to come back and make the finals, let alone win the Grand Final against a very talented group of young cricketers from Manly. The Preliminary Final was also a ball-tearer which we defeated The Barbarians by a very slender 5-run margin. In the Grand Final against Manly, Dom Wheeler got us off to a flyer scoring 49 runs in very quick time, but our total of 9/123 never looked or felt like enough runs against a team who always looked like they were going to confidently chase down our modest total. But when we removed Manly’s top 4 batsmen for a total of 4 runs & when we bowled full & straight and when we fielded like champions (including a stunning catch to Kav) we had the game by the throat in an amazing display of cricket by a team that doesn’t play together. Cricket is an extremely difficult game to understand. CPCC ended up winning the match by 14 runs. The tension of the match and the atmosphere created on the sidelines by the local community radio station broadcasting the game via speakers around Griffith Park and over the radio made the game a unique experience. Thanks again to Nirav Patel for organising the team, hopefully we can go and make it a 3-peat. England Tour - I am writing this report after returning from the third CPCC Tour to England. First and foremost thanks goes to John Jackson for the tremendous effort that went into organising the fixtures. Without John’s efforts, the tour could not and would not proceed. Thanks also to the Tourists for the fantastic tour both on and off the field. On the field, we had the most successful of the 3 tours with 8 wins from our 15 games in England. Off the field, the Tourists were excellent ambassadours for CPCC and Australia. Our packed schedule meant that we all played approx 9 games out of 15 in 20 days. The hospitality of our opponents, the Day 5 @ Trent Bridge, the day @ The Darts & the day at the York Races were all extremely good. A horse called “Eagle Rock” won @ York Races which most of us had money on. I also thoroughly enjoyed my role as Finemaster. There’s too much to right about but there’s a Tour Diary and a video under construction. Good Luck to everyone in the season ahead.

TEN SEASONS AGO

What a season 2002/03 turned out to be. Matt Kehoe’s A2 ‘Gold’ team breaking through for a premiership capped a year bursting with activity, achievement and milestones. CPCC were on the board before a ball was bowled with a win in the ‘Wheelchair’ category of the Pub to Pub fun run. Thanks to a wheelchair athletics event on the other side of town attracting all the genuinely disabled athletes, the President, as part of the CPCC team, pushed fiancé Jocelyn in a borrowed wheelchair after she’d torn her ACL playing soccer. Unbeknownest to them they crossed the line first and there were some suspicious looks from the crowd when both walked up to claim their prize of a night for 2 at the Manly Pacific at the presentation. The pair could have set an even faster time if they’d realized before finishing that the brake was still half on.

The Club entered five senior and seven junior teams. The seniors had to cope with a hazardous Plateau Park pitch which saw more than the odd delivery rear viciously at the northern end whilst others almost rolled along the ground. Needless to say opposing teams feared the trip up the hill more than usual that season however it soon became unplayable even for the home team and thought was given to moving games off Plateau Park until a new pitch could be layed.

The A2 Gold Grand Final win over a very strong Forestville team was a fabulous moment. With long time team captain Matt Kehoe on the sideline recovering from a broken ankle, stand in skipper Jason James led the team to victory with the first century by a Plateau player in a finals match. Dom Tilden’s five wickets (he took 17 in the final 3 games) had Forestville behind for most of the second day however they were never out of it and it wasn’t till John O’Neill snapped up a difficult chance at fly slip that the celebrations (including head shaving) could commence. The A1s disappointingly missed out on the finals but had a most satisfying victory over arch rivals Seaforth in the last round. CPCC posted a

massive 2/303 thanks to Rob Minnett’s 132. Other highlights of the year were Rob Van Dam’s maiden ton in game one of the season and a 9th

wicket partnership of 147 between Pete Henriksen 101 and R Pearce 50* v Belrose which is a club record. Dave Sharp was the best of the MWCA in the top grade with 55 wickets. John Jackson’s A2 Blue team also missed out on finals cricket after missing some key players from their previous strong campaigns and dogged by poor catching. Morphing out of this team due to an excess of players was the B1s led by Greg Luckman. This team would later form the basis of the current 4

th Grade squad with players Adam Pressley, James Humberstone and Michael Rohanek. An

interesting moment of their season was the landing of a fire fighting helicopter on the pitch when they had Beacon Hill by the throat! Dean Storey’s B2’s were unable to return to the Grand Final after losing Lachlan McColl to Mosman grade and Ash McPhee to London.

Our juniors were growing and their cricketing skills developing as evidenced by our MWJCA reps Adam Wilkinson (U10), Bryce Gracie and Nick McLachlan (U11). Ten years on and Nick is coming off a stellar year in Manly First Grade. The U13s hosted their second annual FatherSon/Daughter match and the Under 9s had a family event on Australia Day.

The Club’s social scene was again vibrant with big attendances back at the Dee Why Hotel post match. Social Secretary Luke Arcus introduced the Meat Tray raffle and the club’s depleted coffers were replenished with a $3.7k profit. Luke’s tenure as Social Secretary ended prematurely after only one successful year when he moved to Leeton. The annual Christmas dinner was held at Talash Indian Restaurant in Dee Why with the almost all encompassing fancy dress theme of ‘Heads of State, Religious Leaders, Dictators or Bond Villains/Girls’. Highlights of the night were Pete Henriksen’s depiction of Jesus Christ (complete with retractable cardboard crucifix) and Adolf Hitler (Brad Lasoski) heiling a cab on Pittwater Rd afterwards. As is usually the case after a senior Grand Final victory, a bus full headed for Nelson Bay at season’s end. The bus almost returned half empty when a storm cell burst over the tobbogan run just as half the club were about to head downhill. The resultant deluge turned the tobbogan track into a river rendering the brake obsolete. Our near death experience was watched enthusiastically by staff whose desire for personal entertainment far outweighed their

sense of OHS and Duty of Care. In other social events, Dean Storey finally redeemed his previous last hole heartaches at Bayview with a win in the Golf Day at a wet and wild Long Reef. A new section in the 48

th Report indicated the generational phase experienced by the Club at the time. ‘Births

and Marriages’ recorded the many such events occurring during the season. Club members married during the course of 02/03 were: Andrew and Veronica Sewell, Luke and Elisa Arcus and Colin and Jocelyn Huxley. Babies were born to: Rob and Lee Van Dam, Luke and Elisa Arcus, Scott and Denise Smidt, Andrew and Gillian Macleman as well as Andy Curtayne and to Simon Wright.

The Club felt the tragedy of the Bali Bombing in October 2002 with A2 Gold player Andy Sanderson’s brother a victim. Andy wrote an article published in the SMH on 23/10/02 entitled “Will we ever escape this grief?” The article gives an insight into the anguish families like Andy’s endured. The article finished with a moving tribute: “Greg was a big-hearted bloke, thoughtful, generous and easy going. He loved a beer, a punt and a laugh. We will miss him every minute, every hour, every day, forever”. Greg was just 24 years old and a member of the Forbes Rugby Club.

President Huxley mentioned in his address of the challenge of rebuilding ageing senior teams as players comprising the nucleus of the top grades were in their middle thirties and beyond. Ten years on the President could make the same mention of the same players. They do say that forty is the new thirty. In other club news the first official Club polo shirt was launched as well as a new look website and more user friendly web address.

The ‘Randolph Beddows’ Flag

Randolph Beddows is well known in Manly Warringah cricket circles, particularly amongst the First Graders. There is no keener cricketer in the District than Randy. Whether it has been following Martin Shield, the old Forest Hawks, Balgowlah or of late Harbord Bowling teams, Randolph has been a regular on the sidelines for years. Given a chance to field for any team who was short, Randolph would be out like a shot invariably to fine leg. Otherwise, he’s more than happy to have a chat and reminisce. In 2004 Randolph returned a piece of CPCC history he had been custodian of for 25 years. The small flag, one of many which used to be attached to wooden stakes and employed as boundary markers, was left behind after a match in the late 60’s. It is the last known survivor. It was decided to honour the first grade player with the highest ‘Shearer’ Points total for the season with the creation of this trophy.

The ‘B & B’ Trophy (Brian & Barbara Moore)

This perpetual senior Club Award was added during the 2001/02 season courtesy of ex-clubman Brian Moore. Brian, who re-visited the Plateau for the first time since returning to England after the ’72 season, was thrilled to see the Club continuing on as strong as ever after all these years. Brian and his son Ian who moved to Australia from England in the sixties, played for several seasons with the Plateau with Brian captaining the 1971/72 premiership winning C2 team. It was agreed by the Executive that the Award be presented to a player who displays an effort, both on and off the field which is above and beyond that which is normally expected. The winner is decided by vote of nominations received from team Captains.

Rothmans sponsored this trophy, first awarded in 1968. Originally introduced for the winner of the Club’s Annual Single Wicket Competition, this award now includes the winner of a Double Wicket Competition, a variation of the single wicket concept. Both events involve club members (individually or in pairs) playing off against each other over competition rounds to decide finalists and eventually a winner/winning pair. Results are determined by runs scored and wickets taken, against drawn opponents. The event was resurrected in 2006 after a 17 year hiatus.

Touring Trophies

These two Perpetual Trophies were created during the 50th Anniversary Tour of England. Players are eligible for these awards by playing in any official CPCC touring match (either International or Domestic) or official home ‘host’ matches against visiting touring teams. They are awarded on a conventional season basis (1 July to 30 June).

We put a fantastic team on the field this year that took us all the way to the Grand Final. I am not going to dwell on the Grand Final itself, instead I would like to give a quick summary of each player who contributed to our successful season. Luke Hammond - Luke was an excellent signing for Collaroy. Luke smashed 530 runs with the bat, including four 50’s and a high score of 80. He is also pretty handy with the ball, taking 15 wickets @ 24. That’s where Luke’s talents ended as he dropped quite a few absolute sitters in the field ending up with a season total catches of zero. Dom Wheeler - Dom had a great year with the bat scoring four 50’s on his way to 369 runs and a high score of 69 against eventual Premiers Harbord Bowling. Dom is pretty handy with the wicket keeping gloves and took a total of 23 catches earning him one of the Clubs perpetual awards The Warrick Armstrong Trophy for most catches for CPCC. Anthony Papandrea - When Paps gets going with the bat, there’s no stopping him. A memorable 73 was Paps high score in a game that was remembered as the one where Diggers ended up with a Tie due to their own dodgy scoring. Paps missed a portion of the season from the end of November when he went for a catch & busted his knee going for a catch, which he dropped. Paps bounced back with 4 catches in the GF. Ryan Malam - I said to Ryan that he owes me a century, which he still hasn’t delivered on. He his definitely more than capable of doing so, coz when he hits the ball, it stays hit. Nearly 200 with the bat, 6 wickets with the ball. Rumours he is going to Long Reef better not be true, coz he still owes me a century. David Moss - Mossy didn’t play too much for us in 1

st Grade, but when he did he was awesome. He smashed a memorable century 118* in the

Semi-Final against Mona Vale. In 3rd Grade he racked up 570 runs on top of his 190 in 1

st Grade. I expect Mossy to be fighting fit for a full season in

firsts next year. Nick Buxton - I remember watching Bucko belting a colourful innings of 80 runs @ Griffith Park including six 6’s. I was also lucky enough to see Bucko hit eight 6’s in a T20 match while he smoked 92 runs in 10 overs. Bucko is still one of the best keepers in the comp with 2 stumpings and 11 catches. Brenden Ball - This was Brendo’s first season in 1

st Grade and he chimed in with 145 runs, 23 wickets and 6 catches and was a key contributor to

the team throughout the season. Brendo’s best bowling of 4/40 had us steaming towards the finals and was always ready to go with the ‘ball’, bowling 119 overs. David Bennetts - Not sure if it’s David’s cunning bowling style or whether he actually is the “world’s fittest dad” but David Benny Bennetts contribution has been excellent every year since he joined Collaroy 5 seasons ago. Enthusiasm in the field is a huge factor here & I will not forget a stunning catch at silly mid on @ Terrey Hills, in a very long time. Luke Diserens - Dizzy is a friggin good spin bowler & he can change a game. With a little bit less abuse to Umps, several teammates and the comp itself and Dizzy would be a fantastic cricketer. Steve Albanese - Albo has the best figures in first grade, bowling 4 balls and ending a really annoying last wicket partnership of 114. This was Steve’s first year in first grade & next year Steve will keep his head down and we will all watch his batting average go up. Jeff Porter-Dening - JPD also stepped up to first grade this year. Narrowly missing out on most wickets with 35, JPD picked up the only 6fa yet he was widely considered extremely unlucky. I expect next year he will be ripping through teams and smashing records. 144 overs, wow. Adam Brooks - Brooksy’s 36 wickets @ 13.8 was some of the best bowling in the comp & pretty awesome. Not bad considering he missed quite a few games due to travel. Adam still managed to get through 153 overs. Robert Minnett - It was an absolute pleasure to Captain you lads this season. I had my best ever season with the bat and I am keen to get the team back out on the field and up to the top of the table again.

The 2012 -13 season began with much anticipation, our side put its hand up to fill the vacant 2nd grade spot and we all hoped it was the right move. With a good win in round one, all our fears were put aside and we began to focus confidently on the season ahead. We had a great middle period of the season and with only 2 games to go were still a great chance to finish first. However with back to back losses going into finals we ended up finished the regular season with 9 wins and 6 losses, and although it wasn't first, we were quietly happy to achieve 3rd place. The semi-final was a typically low scoring affair and after bowling out Harbord Bowling for 93 runs, we were quietly confident, however a massive top order collapse meant we could only scrape though to 61 runs, effectively losing the match and our season on the first day. Our star batsmen of the side were, Hamish Evans, Jack Fox and Doug Wiles who all scored multiple fifties and lead the team well throughout the season. Our star bowler was undoubtedly Adam McNicholl who racked up 46 wickets and bowled 205 overs, we are lucky to have such a fit bloke in the side. Now we're all looking forward to handing out some revenge next season by taking out the Premiership - go Plateau!

Grade ‘Gold’

The CPCC 3rd Grade Gold team for this season came together from the ashes of what was left from last season’s disintegrated 2nd Grade team and our 3rd Grade team that had lost a few guys --- namely our three young guys that didn’t play this season so they could concentrate on their HSCs (Cam Schimek, James Scognamiglio and Nick Berney) and my right hand man and staunch ally, club stalwart and legend, David “Freddy” Quarford due to an injury forced retirement. Despite it being a somewhat new team with different personalities and different ideas, we got off to a solid start to the season and won three of the first four games so it seemed like a promising season was about to unfold. The only setback at that stage was losing reigning Bruce Shearer Trophy winner Dan Schimek who left our team after two matches to play with his mates at Harbord Diggers. While it was disappointing to lose Dan, he went with my blessing as he wasn’t enjoying the dynamic of the new team, changed as it had through the loss of the younger guys from last year’s team and his uncle (Freddy). From Round 5 on though, it was pretty much a disastrous season and we only won two of the last ten matches we played (one round was washed out) to finish in 5th spot, eleven points from 4th. There were some highlights though and while one door closed with the defection of Dan Schimek, another opened and we picked up discarded 1st Grade player David Moss and what a bonus that proved to be. Mossy kicked off his season in our team with a sensational 140 in a gem of an innings that showed his class and featured boundaries all over the park. He finished the season with 570 runs at an average of 57.00 and was the backbone of our batting. Tom Carden was another to shine at the top of the order with the highlight being four 50s in five innings between rounds two and seven and finished with 377 runs at an average of 29.00. The other rock in our lineup was Ryan Dunn who was solid throughout the whole season and finished with 422 runs at an average of 38.36. Nick Bonner and Kavin Moorthi each scored two half centuries and finished with 281 runs at 23.42 and 223 runs at 22.30 respectively and showed some explosive batting on occasion. The rest of us had a fairly average to poor season with the bat and, while all have the ability to score good runs consistently, this season we didn’t do that. All five guys mentioned previously had seasons to be proud of and on the numbers alone, if the whole team scored their average we would have made 220 runs each innings. Of course, with the nature of averages, that was never going to happen every week but our problem was that for last seven games with a result (six losses + one win) we didn’t even get close to that and only averaged 147 runs per innings. With the top five having two or three guys scoring and two or three guys not scoring on any given match, that, coupled with the rest of the team not firing went a long way in explaining our poor second half of the season. Our other big problem this season, and one that had previously been this team’s strength, was our bowling and fielding. In the main, we struggled to bowl teams out and four times had over 300 runs scored against us. There were occasions when we’d get early wickets and then instead of doing what we’d previously done and rolled them for around 120, we’d find ourselves chasing 200+. Other times we couldn’t get an early breakthrough and teams would race to 80 with the loss of two or less wickets. At times we would drop our heads and compounded the situation with dropped catches that put us deeper in a hole. As with the batting, I think we were a better bowling team than the results indicated but we struggled to put it all together and/or bowl in tandem to build pressure on opposition batsman. While one bowler would be bowling well at one end, the other end was leaking runs with loose bowling. Some days we fielded really well and took some sensational catches and on other days we dropped sitters and dived over balls that should have been stopped only to see them go to the boundary.

All in all, despite some good individual performances here and there, it was a disappointing season from a team point of view and I think that while individually we all have the ability to play and perform well in 3rd Grade (or 2nd Grade for that matter), the reality is that as a team that needs to have all players producing their best regularly, we struggled to do that this season, mirroring what we did last season. Whether or not we were in a grade that was too high for us this season is debatable but either way, hopefully season 2013/14 brings some better results and better performances across the board. This is my final report as captain of this group of guys as a secret coup has been staged, my head has been unceremoniously lopped off and Operation Hummingbird was a success! I will sign off by pointing out the other high point of the season, and one which cannot be overlooked, was being able to look around the field each Saturday and see four bona fide Rabbitoh supporters standing out there doing battle for CPCC. This, surely, was something that should be treasured by our club and never forgotten! Darren McDermott - Captain

Grade ‘Blue’ After a premiership win last year in 6th grade, the boys were keen to get back together and have a crack at 3rd grade. New additions to the team included Dan McIntyre - a handy opening bowler who probably didn’t take as many wickets as he deserved, and Angus Demol, who, despite his low height and youth, managed to scrounge a few much-needed 50s, notably hooking bowlers who attempted to bounce him, and hitting a 6 off the last ball of an innings at the plateau to get his fifty. Finally we had the welcome return of veteran Gus Mackenzie, strengthening the bowling attack and finishing with most wickets in the team and 3rd most in the competition. For the most part it was quite a successful season, disregarding our unfortunate loss in the semi final at the hands of DY RSL, who went on to win. Highlights in the season included the majestic 10th wicket partnership of 74 (Sam Cheeseman 54* and Brodie Elliott 26*) against Harbord Bowling Club, which saw us over the line after being 9/106 chasing 180. That was Cheeseman’s first game of the season, only being called upon due to a shortage of numbers, and what a return it was. Both players were dropped in their innings, and what’s more they had an ex-first grade bowler bowling all day. Needless to say Harbord were filthy. Elliott’s straight drive for 4 to win was the icing on the cake. Take that Bowlo. More highlights include the artfully constructed 309 against the Collaroy Gold team, aka Collaroy 2’s (who, I must add, we beat on all 3 occasions, thanks largely due to Gus Mackenzie cleaning up the wicket of in-form opening batsman TC each game for scores of 9, a golden duck and a fourth ball duck.) After being 4/91, four fifties were to be had in that game, a solidly crafted 56 by Matt Terry, a gutsy 50 by Angus Demol, a red hot 51 by Nathan Lange with potentially the biggest six at the plateau, and Paul Fabbro’s innings-of-the-season of 79, blasting the ball to every part of the ground. Another dominant match was against Long Reef at Griffith Park, where, after putting 283 on the board, thanks especially to Dan Schacher falling excruciatingly short of a ton with 96, we bowled the home side out for 59. Perhaps we should have capitalised and gone for the outright win, but burgers and the beach were too tempting on a hot summer’s day.

Other highlights included another century from Lachy Peake in the space of 25 overs, against a scratchy Harbord Bowling Club down at Nolans 4 on Australia Day. Unfortunately he dislocated his shoulder on 120 off 97 balls and was forced to retire, a recurring injury that saw him miss the bulk of the rest of the season. Five catches in that game to Mitch Curran saw him move to third on the list for most ever catches at CPCC, a prestigious title he is quite proud of. Finishing 2nd on the table, despite forfeiting a match in November due to schoolies commitments from almost all of our team, the semi final was looking like a tight one on the outset, the strike bowler from each team being unavailable for play, with Gus succumbing to an injury which nearly saw him lose his middle finger. Moron. After great early pressure on our behalf, we had DY 2/5 after 10 overs, which could have been 3/5 if not for a tough drop catch in slip. Unfortunately a few more drop catches proved costly, with DY finishing on 205. Dan Schacher made the only decent runs of the innings with 56, however we fell short on 166, no thanks to Curran’s golden duck. Special mention to Martin Vestergaard for one of his gutsiest efforts with the bat thus far, hanging in right til the end and contributing a solid 30 odd. Bad luck lads. Kudos to Matt Terry and Dan Schacher for commendable efforts with bat in hand again this season - unfortunately Dan was forced to miss many games with work and reserve-grade AFL-for-the-swans commitments. Also to Matt Clements for his freaky wicket-keeping and, surprisingly, this season, run-scoring at number 3. Can’t get over the look in the opposition team’s faces when they see a midget with dreadlocks belting them all over the park. Priceless, Clemmy. Where we lacked this season was, as always, our consistency. In saying that we really enjoyed ourselves week in week out, a very chilled atmosphere in the group facilitating this. Entertaining memories include the 5-man cordon put in place against Camo, who still managed to find the gap with that persistent late cut of his, as well as possibly the most technically correct shot in MWCA history, Matt Terry’s sublime lofted cover-drive six nearly going into orbit.

We re-grouped after the disappointment of falling short in last season’s grand final against DY RSL. The side once again varied little in make-up to seasons gone by, a testament to the comradery we have enjoyed together as a tight group of mates who just enjoy playing some cricket and a beer or two afterwards together. We expected to once again be competitive in 4th grade as the majority of the team are an allrounder to some extent, and everyone contributes. We had one permanent new addition to the side in Brett Hombsch, who’s in swinging left arm over and nippy pace gave us another level of variety in our attack. Brett proved to be a very valuable find early in the season as our stock of pace bowling was dented with Micky out with injury and Chungy out with work commitments till around mid-season. Our first round against Belrose was a game of several milestones…….it was the last to feature the talented Mick “Archer” Bowman, and we thank Mick for his contribution in the previous season (5 wickets and a ton in the one game I’ll always remember). It also presented an opportunity for us to employ the services of ring in Mr Treasurer, who showed us all how to bat with a superb knock of 137, obviously the winter hiatus hadn’t taken its toll on form. We ended up putting on 308, which would surely be enough……or so we thought. With our main opening attack not available. The ball was thrown to fast bowler in the making Conde,

who ripped them in at pace and claimed the first legitimate wicket of his career, clean bowling their opener (he’ll tell you in depth about the one Jacko didn’t give in the semi a few season ago….) having spent the majority of it with the gloves on behind the poles. Alas several partnerships and the big hitting D Smith got them over the line in an entertaining opening fixture.

It was fairly obvious early on in the season the competition would be played out amongst ourselves, Belrose, Terry Hills & St Peter’s with their deadly opening bowling Sri Lankan connection. DY and Cromer were also there in the mix, but lost too many games early on to really challenge for a top four spot. St Peter’s aside (who all other sides in the comp agreed were playing in the wrong grade) our bogey team turned out to be Belrose, we just couldn’t put them away each time and the loss in round 1 to them set the tone for each fixture throughout the season. We had the wood over Terry Hills, the only side they didn’t beat during the regular rounds. Our round results ended up as 8 wins, 1 draw and six loses, which would be a reasonable assessment of our performance throughout the season. Heading into the final round we were guaranteed a finals berth sitting in 4th but well clear of DY in 5th. A bonus point win in the last game before the finals vs Terry Hills would see us move into at least 3rd and if the other result fell our way a possible second. With the constant threat of washouts as had been the trend since Christmas 2nd was much more attractive than 3rd. An so it played out, we held our end of the bargain and a shock loss of Belrose to DY, meant we leap frogged both Belrose and Terry Hills into clear second by a point. First part of the job done, weather was no longer a concern in the semifinal, which would be a repeat matchup of the rain affected semi of last year against the same two sides ie us and Terry Hills. Rain was our friend in 2011/12 as it eventually saved us from one of our famous batting collapses and what was looking like certain defeat.

This time around we lost the toss and much to my surprise were sent in. Runs on the board in a finals game is gold, so the decision to bowl first by the TH skipper was puzzling. Although after we were rolled for 82 I was thinking he knew something I didn’t. The Plateau boys still confident as we’d been on the end of it in last years Grand Final, fired up and ripped in to knock the Hills men over for 62, a first innings lead of 20. We came off the end of day one on a high after digging deep and holding our chances to be on top. Oh how 24hrs make a difference though…..Aim ing to batt them out of it, we collapsed (again?) with the only real resistance coming from an inspired knock form Dave Le, top scoring with 33 in the second dig to give us a lead of 108, The problem was there was still time for the Hills boys to knock them off left in the day. We once again fired up in the field to take regular wickets in Terry Hills second dig and throughout both sides were looking favourites as the game see-sawed. Having Coatsey pull up lame in his first over was perhaps an omen??? Eventually as daylight was fading, Terry Hills put on a vital partnership in their lower order to sneak home in the very last over, but I think many of us agreed one of the most exciting and hard fought in the right spirit games we’ve ever played together. So we fell one shorter than last year, but all in all another solid season for the Mighty Tanks! Finally special thanks must go to those who filled in for us during the season when we were shortT Horstead, D Norman, C Dwyer, R Bhatty, J Carden, D Steel. See you in 2103/14

This was another great year for the development side with another premiership year completing a ‘fourpeat’ Toby Horstead had a stellar season winning the Shearer medal. Slowly the number of genuine development teams in this grade of the MWCA is increasing. The side was made up of:

- Experienced players i.e. Toby Horstead,. John Jackson, Peter Bonner, Andrew Davis Greg Bruckard, Luke Ireland - Regular junior players i.e. Jake Carden ,Damon Steel, Brad Baber, Charlie Jormanainen, Aaron Peters, Joel Wood, Keiren Nixon - Young players just out of juniors ie Keshava Ratnavabushena, Cam Milling, Cam Baber ,Jack Ollerhead - A group of other juniors who played a few matches ie Jack Pickering, Harrison Dunn, Chris Lawson, Jack Collins, Max Jolley

Some highlights of the season included: -

- Toby Horstead's aggressive opening batting throughout the season. - Consistently tight and effective bowling from our young medium pacers hunting as a pack. - Important and long innings from young batters Aaron Peters, Cam Baber, Joel Wood, Damon Steel. - An outright defeat of then league leaders Manly Leagues in round 7sparked by an unexpected grab at slip by Kesh R. - Bowling veterans ‘D’ and ‘GB’ playing a mentoring role and producing the goods when required. - Semi final fightback from 6-36 led by Cam Baber, Brad Baber ,Andrew Davis and Greg Bruckard to reach a winning total against

Wakehurst. Many thanks to the cooperation from the u-18 junior team in getting teams on the park.. Steve Carden, was very helpful. It was great to see another contingent of youngsters playing very competitive senior cricket for CPCC. Their performances would indicate a promising future for our club.

Masters

“age shall not weary them or the years condemn”

This was our fourth season in the Sydney masters competition. The season was another successful one. A willing band of competitive cricketers enjoyed the Sunday afternoon games played on turf with good spirit. The team resumed its ‘natural’ position in the top section of the 20 team competition. We finished fourth which is a very creditable performance for a park club. The masters comp. is being dominated by a strong Mosman side.

Our squad was made up of regulars: David Bennetts, Andrew Cameron, Rob Van Dam, Luke Ireland, John Jackson, David Moss, Robert Minnett, Kym Woolf, David Lang, new comers: Jason Haithwaite, Brenden Ball, John Heiniger and part timers: Bruce Flint, Kim Blacker, Peter Bonner, Peter Henriksen, ‘Anthony Papandrea, Arthur Smith, Rob McCabe, Doug Campbell, Matt Golledge, Col Huxley and Ian North.

Rob van Dam injury worries meant he didn’t bowl in the latter part of the season and the regular long term opening combination of Cloggs and ‘D’ was broken up. Medium pace support was provided by Dave Moss, Luke Ireland, Dave Bennetts and Brenden Ball in the second half of the season. David Lang had excellent days in our good wins over Epping and Auburn.

Our batting showed good depth. Andrew Cameron had an excellent season topping the aggregate run scorers. Rob van Dam, David Moss. David Bennetts, Jason Haithwaite and Kym Woolf were regular run scorers It was a shame our batting in the important last game of the season against Sri Lankan lions was very disappointing.

Our fielding was consistently good by masters standards. Great run outs by Jason Haithwaite, David Bennetts and David Moss swung games our way.

Thanks to the Manly grade club for arrangements re Grahams reserve. Also thanks to players who regularly carried out administrative duties.....Andrew (treasurer), Luke and Cammo (beer sales),

This is my last season as masters coordinator. Thanks to all in the club who have played and supported the team. The team will be continuing on so if you are over 40 and looking for a game on turf get in touch.

T20

A Team

This report is about the Collaroy Plateau cricket club ‘A’ team who defended their title from last year. Winning last year’s T20 Mike Pawley Cup was great but it feels amazing when you win two consecutive years. The report will show how individual players came together from different grades and won the T20 title, it was a team effort. Everyone knows last year captain was Tom Carden, he retires this year to concentrate on his batting. The team was disorganized and without a captain in the very first game. We had to forfeit in the first round at Nolans 2 as only 6 players turned up for the game and the other player turned up on a different ground, Griffith Park due to the lack of coordination and mistake by organisers.

Second round of the game was against Dee Why RSL at Passmore 1, and guest appearance was Dom Wheeler in our team. This year Dom was playing for Collaroy Plateau ‘B’. He agreed to help team ‘A’ who were short of players. Dee Why RSL won the toss and elected to bat first. Mick Mackin started the bowling with Luke Diserens, with these bowlers picking up 3 wickets. Other bowlers were Nirav Patel and Kavin Moorthi with 4 wickets in total. The fielding was exceptional with 5 catches and 4 run outs, restricting them to 100 runs. When Collaroy ‘A’ started their batting Dom Wheeler ruled Dee Why RSL at that stage. Dom hit 2 fours and 2 sixes giving us a bit of an advantage to beat the opposition team. Every single player contributed equally and we managed to win in the 14th over of the game at 4/104.

Round four, was the tricky game for Collaroy ‘A’ against The Steyne Hotel. The captain was decided at this stage and it was Nirav Patel. The team was organised but with one problem, the team looked like this with 7 people regular cricket players and last 3 are soccer players if I am not making mistake they never played cricket. Collaroy ‘A’ won the toss and elected to bat, the new players were Nick Buxton, Adam Brooks and Ben Wearing. Buxton started his innings exactly like Chris Gayle smashing 6 Fours and 8 Sixes whilst at the other end Brooks was injured but formed a partnership which was 94 runs stand for 1st wicket. Again everyone contributed to get the big score which ended up 4/187 in 20 overs. At the back of my head I thought they will not give us a tough fight but I was wrong. The Steyne Hotel opening batter manage to score 87 runs blasting 7 Fours and 5 Sixes. At that stage we were looking in big trouble, but our bowlers did a good job specially Ben Wearing. His figures were 4 overs – 4 Wickets – 30 runs conceded. The other bowlers who did not concede too many runs were Nirav Patel (4 Overs – 1 wicket – 21 runs) and Kavin Moorthi (4 Overs – 3 wickets – 21 runs). We manage to pull a close win against their 8/184 in 20 overs. Our Semi final round was against no other than Dee Why RSL. RSL would have thought this would be their redemption day, but their hopes were lost when Collaroy ‘A’ team defeated them again. Our new member was Adam McNicholl. Collaroy won the toss and elected to bat, the star player who manage to score most runs was Rob Minnett (66 runs – 3 Fours, 3 Sixes), then Nick Buxton (32 runs – 3 Fours, 2 Sixes) and Ryan Dunn* (29 runs – 2 Fours). The partnership between R Minnett and R Dunn was 102 runs. We managed to make a defendable score 4/146 runs. Our bowling kept them under the wrap. RSL managed to score 108 runs all out in 16 overs. The bowling was just exceptional and it shows the team effort and how we can damage any strong team in this competition. Ben Wearing’s figures were 2 overs – 3 Wickets – 9 Runs, Nirav Patel 3 Overs – 1 Wicket – 11 runs and Adam McNicholl 4 overs – 3 wickets – 22 runs. In cricket, especially in T20 the toss does play an important role. From the start of the T20 competition Collaroy ‘A’ won every toss including in this game too. The game was against the Barbarians. Dom Wheeler was slow to start scoring some runs, but Ben wearing had something else in his mind - not to score slowly. He scored a fast paced 39 runs, Dom wheeler scored 41 runs and Hamish Evans scored 21 runs at a fast pace. The momentum to build good score was going on for Collaroy and managed to score 7/145 in 20 overs. At the fielding time Rob Minnett pulled out of the game as he had injured his hand between the web of the fingers, as our luck J.Porter-Dening was the substitute player for Rob. The substitute player also took the first catch to get the first man out. Nick Bonner opened the bowling order and was great bowler in the team. His figures did much of the talking where he bowled 4 overs – 1 maiden – 1 wicket – 8 runs. He was the key player in bowling not to give away many runs as possible. On the other hand Mick Mackin was the star player who saved the day taking 3 wickets. At his last over the opposition needed 8 runs to win and Mick manage to give away only two runs. At this stage Collaroy ‘A’ made it to the GRAND FINAL. 24th Feb 2013, Sunday 3.00 pm, THE GRAND FINAL day at Griffith Park. The moment has finally come for the Collaroy ‘A’ to defend their title. The opposition was none other than the Manly-Warringah Grade team. There were many supporters for Collaroy, the captain was feeling the pressure of the final. The toss was called by Manly-Warringah grade team and won by Collaroy ‘A’ and we elected to bat first. Again the toss can play very vital part in any format of game. The game started very slow and we received a bit of a help from the opposition giving away runs in extras (nb 4, w 11, b1, lb1). The Collaroy ‘A’ start was slow but Dom Wheeler came to the crease with one thing in his mind “How will I kick their butt today?”. In response, he D.Wheeler did exactly what he supposed to do scoring 49 runs (2 Fours, 4 sixes). With the team effort we scored 9/123 in overs. Nirav Patel was confident in his team. The way we field and the way we bowl we could beat Manly Grade Club. Adam McNicholl was shocked when the captain asked him to bowl the first over. Adam’s first sentence was “ARE YOU SERIOUS, YOU MUST BE JOKING and YOU KNOW I CANNOT HANDLE NEW BALL” but I reminded that he will do just allright just like father to son. His first bowl was called wide, his second bowl was also called wide and then the third bowl pitched good length and Manly batsman in his mind thought I can easily hit for six. The bowl went mid-on where Collaroy player Kavin Moorthi was standing underneath. Everyone thought that catch will be hard to get, but Kavin got the catch with his middle finger. That was the first break through. After that four wickets were lost in just two overs. The middle order showed some backbone for the team but that was not enough. The Collaroy bowlers took wickets regularly. It was shame they could not handle the pressure. Who said match cannot be won by catches just look at the stats: catches – R Malam 1, M Mackin 1, R Dunn 1, N Patel 1, A McNicholl 1, H Evans 1, KP Moorthi 2. More than half the players were caught and none of the catches were easy to take as per my recollection of memory. There were plenty of overs left to Manly but losing wickets regularly was the not the best for their team. The last catch was taken by Adam McNicholl, the Manly team were just gob smacked. No one could believe the park cricket team Collaroy beat the Grade team. The whole team went into celebration after winning the Title back for second year. Seriously if this team sticks together again for next year we can do some damage on the other teams. Everyone contributed to the team and their effort; we should be extremely pleased with their efforts and what we have achieved. Well done guys, your willingness to listen and helped the captain to understand the game better, without your experience and knowledge we could not be standing at this position. All hail to Team Effort.

T20 OGRES

There are successful CPCC teams and then there are The Ogres – a bunch of silly old guys trying to relive their youth playing cricket and having a great time on the field and an even better time off it! The Ogres once again took on all-comers in the Manly Warringah T20 competition including 2 of the 4 teams that made the finals. A special thank you to the young Manly Grade team who took the game with the Ogres in good spirits with everyone involved having a great game. The Ogres had our first win in our return match against the Rylstone Cowboys in January. Given we are used to losing and still celebrating as if we had won, it was a strange feeling for the team however we quickly recovered over a few beers with the Rylstone team. Congratulations to junior ogre Dom Wheeler, our first trophy winner who picked up several awards at this year’s CPCC presentation night including Clubman of the Year. Thanks to all the guys who turned out for The Ogres in 2012/13 and to the club for your continued support.

Abhijeet Virdi’s Amazing Match

Occasionally you have days as a cricketer when everything just falls into place. CPCC Junior Abhijeet Virdi had one of those days last weekend with his U15 MWJCA Rep team. With bowling figures of 9 wickets for 2 runs from 6 overs, he destroyed the innings of Blacktown single-handedly. Blacktown won the toss and decided to bat when Manly’s Captain, Harrison Dunn, called incorrectly. The game had been moved by mutual agreement from an adjacent oval after rain had seeped underneath the covers, making the original pitch unplayable. With a slight cross breeze into his face, Harrison opened the bowling from the Eastern end and started with a tidy over, conceding 2 runs. With Jayden Pomeranetz unwell, Abhijeet opened the bowling from the other end, with the breeze over his shoulder assisting his in-swingers. He took full advantage of this assistance, collecting a wicket with his second ball, a quick full pitched delivery that literally shattered the off stump. With the stump replaced, he finished his first over - a wicket maiden. The best was yet to come! After another tidy Harrison maiden, Abhijeet started his second over with a wicket, and also collected wickets with his 3rd & 4th balls, finishing with a triple wicket maiden, and figures of 4-0 off 2 overs. Harrison conceded a no

ball off his next over, and Abhijeet commenced his third over with wickets on 1st, 3rd, 4th & 6th balls - a quadruple wicket maiden, and figures of 8-0 off 18 deliveries!!! At this stage, Blacktown were 8-3 runs after 6 overs. Harrison bowled another 2 overs, and Abhijeet another 3, including a 4th over maiden, 2 runs off his 5th over (including 1 no ball), and another wicket maiden in his 6th over. After 12 overs, Blacktown were reeling at 9 wickets for 10 runs. Daniel Turkovic replaced Harrison, and Jarod Horan replaced Abhijeet, keeping things reasonably tight. With drinks taken at 11am after an hour of play, Blacktown were 9-13 after 14 overs. After the break, these two bowlers continued until last week’s star bowler, Johnny McNally was introduced from the Eastern End for the 19th over with the score at 9-23. Johnny immediately displayed his usual control and flight, and was joined shortly thereafter at the other end by Bryton Caldwell. With both spinners keeping the scoring to a minimum, the stubborn 10th wicket partnership was finally broken when Johnny induced an edge that was skillfully collected in his left hand by Charlie Hole at slip, millimetres above the ground. Drinks were immediately taken, with Johnny having bowled 3 balls in his 5th over. Johnny bowled the 12th Blacktown batsmen with his 2nd delivery after the break, finishing with 2 wickets in 3 balls. Blacktown all out for 35 runs off 26.5 overs.

Special mention must go to to Ryan Dowling, the opening batsman for Blacktown, who faced the first ball of the innings, and was still there when the last wicket fell, carrying his bat for 21 not out. He shared a 25 run 10th wicket partnership with No. 11 batsman Lachlan Staude, who batted for 15 overs. Manly’s innings was opened by Daniel Turkovic and Matt Beatty. Blacktown began with an all spin attack, and Daniel and Matt worked the ball around the field collecting their runs. Manly’s first wicket fell in the 8th over, when Matt Beatty got a leading edge to a ball he was trying to work around the leg side, ballooning a catch to the short mid off Blacktown fieldsman. At this stage, Manly were 1-18. Next to the wicket was Abhijeet, and they continued to work the bowling for singles and two’s, until Daniel tied the scores in the 17th over with a single. The hero of the day, Abhijeet, hit the winning runs on the last ball of that over. Blacktown had tried 5 bowlers. Manly won by 10 wickets – an outstanding performance !!!

Junior Secretary’s Report

It is with great pride that I am able to begin this report stating that CPCC are the MWJCA Club Champions for the third year running! This award is of course a result of the combined efforts of all CPCC players, coaches and parents. It also highlights the unity and depth within our club from our most Senior members right through to our very youngest. Registrations remained steady at the Plateau this season enabling us to field 13 Saturday morning teams as well as hosting a very well attended Friday evening In2Cricket program. We maintain our position as one of the largest clubs in the MWJCA and are one of the few that offer cricket opportunities from beginners right through to the highest Grade in the Senior’s Saturday afternoon competition. Rep trials for 2012-13 were held during March 2012 with squads selected for each age group. Official training commenced late July with final team selections decided on after trial matches held during September/October. The rep season proper commenced at the end of October. Needless to say we are proud of all CPCC Juniors who are selected as MWJCA representative players. For the 2012-2013 season Rep caps were presented to:

Under 11 DCA J.H. Creak Shield Lachlan Burgess Under 11 President's Cup Noah Vumbaca, Tom Trevaskis Under 12 DCA Arch Cawsey Shield Adrian Caproni, Fletcher Kirby, Harrison Kantor-Smith Under 13 DCA W.S. Weblin Shield Glyn Archer, Matt Brock, Jake Carden, Keiren Nixon and Max Domanski Under 15 President’s Cup Harrison Dunn, Bryton Caldwell, Abhijeet Virdi, Jarrod Hummelstad

Many of these players also took part in rep carnivals held in Lismore, Ballina and Newcastle over the Christmas holidays. Special mention here to Isaiah Vumbaca who has also been selected in the Under 14's Cricket NSW Academy Program for 2013. The Saturday morning competition commenced at the end of September for U10's and up with the Kangas and Under 9's getting underway later in October. Toby Horstead again ran a fantastic program for our In2Cricket players. The ‘twilight’ format at Plateau Park on Friday evenings proved even more of a hit this season with the addition of our new ‘shed’ facility. There was a definite ‘village green’ atmosphere with 30+ eager youngsters aged from 4-7 turning up each week, with their parents, for this activity based program, followed by a BBQ tea and plenty of socializing. The In2cricket program ran prior to Christmas and culminated with a day at the SCG during the Sydney test match. Special thanks here to the Blacker, Ward and Faulkner families for their help running the ‘shop’ on Friday evenings, and also to the Parent helpers at the activity stations. We intend to make ‘Friday Family Night’ even bigger and better in the coming season. The U16’s ‘Power’ team attended their fifth and final CPCC Junior Tour to Canberra during the 2012 October school holidays to take part in the eight a side T20 Kookaburra Cup run by CricketACT. As always a great time was had by all with some excellent cricket and plenty of extra activities around our National Capital. I hope other CPCC teams continue to take the opportunity to take part in this competition. The MWJCA presentation night was held in June 2013. The room was awash with blue and gold as the Under 15 ‘Force’, U14/1 ‘Energy’ and U13/1 ‘Electrodes’ teams collected their Premiership trophies proudly wearing their new ‘Premiers Shirts’. Steve O’Keefe was the special guest on hand to present the awards to the players in the competition winning teams as well as to individual award winners as recognized below. Congratulations to all award recipients. MWJCA Award Winnners 2012-2013

Several of our Junior players have already begun the transition to Senior cricket by playing in the afternoon competition this season as well as in their morning teams. Congratulations to those players in the MWCA 6th Grade ‘Development’ team that took out the MWCA premiership with a convincing Grand Final win. The annual Father/Son/Daughter Australia day social match and CPCC ‘Double Wicket’ were unfortunately not able to be held this season due to ground and weather issues. Fortunately the rain that plagued us post-Christmas stayed away for the final day's play enabling a large contingent of club members - past and present- to happily conclude the season under blue skies on a beautiful sunny day on the 23rd March at Clontarf Reserve. $250 was raised from the picnic day raffle which will go into the CPCC coffers. Congratulations to all prize winners. Funds from raffles and REBEL ‘Season Pass’ credits are greatly appreciated by our Club and go a long way to help finance resources for our Club members. Your support in these ventures is always appreciated. As always a big "thank you" to all those that helped on the day with cooking the BBQ, collecting bread rolls and returning empty crates, collecting sausages, selling raffle tickets, picking up rubbish and all the other necessary tasks. Thank you also to the Barker family for their donation of several hundred picnic plates which were most useful on Picnic Day and will well and truly see us through the next season or two. Unfortunately the rain did play havoc with many of our planned activities on the official Pink Stumps Day resulting in staggered Pink events over the final weeks of the season. $400.00 was collected for the McGrath foundation from the combined efforts of the 11/1 ‘Megawatts’, 11/2 ‘Thunderbolts’ and u15 ‘Surge’ teams – and those who added to the tins at the picnic day. PLUS special commendations to the u14's ‘Energy’ team who went all out and raised an amazing $565!! Thank you to all who washed cars, baked and sold pink cakes and other treats, packed pink lolly bags etc etc. Judging by the attached photos I am sure you all had fun at the same time as supporting a very worthwhile cause. Registration gets underway during August for season 2013-2014. Looking forward to a long, hot summer and another great season.

Vicki Carden - Junior’s Secretary

U16-18 Power

Following on from our unbeaten season last year, we kicked off the new season where we left off; playing in a higher age group bracket we turned the corner at Xmas remaining unbeaten again. The comp was then split into 2 divisions and after 2 nerve-racking last over losses to SCEGGS we finished a close runner up. SCEGGS won these matches in the last over with 9 wickets down both times, so there was nothing between the teams and our boys should feel thoroughly proud of their seasons efforts because I sure am. Another game highlight was chasing down St Augustines 1 day total of 212 at the Plateau, a remarkable achievement. Would like to thank Kieren Nixon, Thomas Cains, Wyatt Crawley, Liam Filmer-Ramsey, Matt Beatty, Glyn Archer and Cam Baber for helping us out and filling in when we were short. Glyn has been a regular member of the team since under 9’s and was graded with shires this season so we congratulate him for that. Cam did more than just help out playing half the games and contributing greatly taking 5 wickets and scoring 97 runs @ 32.33. I’d like to also mention the efforts of our new team members Brad, Rob and James who joined us from the Energy and fitted into the team perfectly. I have no doubt the success this team has had since under 9’s is due to the way these boys combine together as a team and play for each other.

Season highlights:

Brad Baber – Top score of 40 opening the innings with Dan against St Augustines in an excellent unbeaten partnership of 85, also a very good 17no against Sceggs opening the innings in difficult conditions and a very handy unbeaten 22 run partnership in the final game against Sceggs. Took 9 wickets at an average of 16 and was a very consistant bowler and wicket taker.

Max Bertock – Top score of 22 in an excellent 114 run match winning partnership with Jake against St Augustines at the Plateau, also another good partnership with Jake 42 against St Pius Scored 67 runs for the season at an average of just over 10. Best bowling figures of 3/20 in 6 overs against Harbord.

James Bourcier – Scored his first half century with an incredibly patient 56 batting for 45 overs against Harbord which include a 58 run partnership with Jake. Scored 85 runs at an average of 17. Consistently took wickets bowling at first change finishing with 12 for the season at an average of 9.9. Also took 6 catches in the field.

Jake Carden – Scored 365 season runs with a top score of 94 at the Plateau, other notable scores of 62no, 60 and 59no finishing with an average of just over 60. A number of good partnerships including 114 with Max, 58 with James. Took 22 wickets at an average of 6.5 with best figures of 4/17 and 4/8. Cleaned up at the association awards winning the Age Champion and also the Eric Palmer Bat awards.

Rob Fabro – Had limited chances with the bat with so many one day games not going the distance however scored a very good 15no in a last wicket partnership of 23 with Nihaar in a low scoring game in difficult conditions against Sceggs. Consistently bowled well and was unlucky not to take more than his 5 wickets which included a 3/2 against Harbord. Was one of the best in the field taking 7 catches and providing 2 direct hits for run outs.

Sam Filmer-Ramsey – Top score of 23 in an excellent last game innings against Sceggs, scored 64 runs at an average of 12 and steered the ship home for a number of tight wins, good 40 run unbeaten partnership with Jake and another of 36 with Jake. Another very consistent wicket taker taking 7 season wickets at an average of 18 including dismissing the associations top run scorer 3 times cheaply.

Charlie Jormanainen – Got lots of good starts with the bat but didn’t go on with it, top scores of 18 and 17. Took 7 wickets at an average of 15 with best figures of 3/4 against Harbord. Took over the keeping gloves when we lost Chris and did a great job behind the stumps.

Chris Lawson – Top scores of 28no in a unbeaten partnership of 57 with Damon, was involved in a fantastic 71 run opening partnership with Dan at the Plateau, also took 2 wickets in only 4 overs, being our wicketkeeper. Again his keeping was outstanding taking 9 catches and being involved in several run outs.

Nihaar Nayar – Our most improved player, had limited chances with the bat however improved out of sight in the net and when he had his chance in the middle. Played the shot of the season at the Plateau straight driving the bowler back down the ground for a boundary that brought the crowd and his teammates to their feet. Another very consistent wicket taker taking 9 wickets at an average of 16.

36

Daniel Priest – Our regular opening batsmen who just loves the job and facing the new ball. Scored 173 runs at an average of just under 20 which included a 41no in an unbeaten 85 run partnership with Brad and an incredible 64no in our chasing down of 212 against St Augustines in a one dayer. Didn’t get to bowl much but still took 4 wickets in his 15 overs.

Damon Steel – Scored 137 runs at an average of just under 20 with scores of 36, 26 and 25. Good partnerships with Chris 57 unbeaten, with Dan 44 unbeaten, 47 with Jake and an excellent 48 run opening stand with Dan in our final game against Sceggs. Another very consistent bowler and wicket taker taking 11 wickets at an average of 14, the best being a 3/14 against Harbord. Was again one of our best fieldsman taking 9 catches including the catch of the season at first slip at Beverley Job.

I would like to thank all our parents who again and have always since our team came together, back in kangas/under 9’s, provided wonderful support. I am sure, like me, all are extremely proud of what our team has achieved together. It has been an absolute pleasure to be involved with this group of kids and I have enjoyed it thougherly and will miss it lots. I owe lots of thanks to a number of people, Graham Crawley, even though Wyatt stopped playing this season, continued to come along every week and score our games, Rob Steel for his valued assistance with coaching and umpiring, Jim Filmer-Ramsey always offering to help out umpiring, Martin Bertok for assisting Graham with scoring and Jane Jormanainen for organizing all our social gatherings amongst many other things.

U15 Surge

The “Surge” team welcomed a few new faces with Morgan Mace, Guy Rees, Bryton Caldwell, Harrison Dunn and Seb Ubiparipovic joining our team. We were also joined by Max Domanski and Mathew Brock for a few games but they were soon snapped up by the Shires teams and unfortunately became unavailable for most of the season. The boys gelled well and became a close group and a team who played in the true spirit of the game. It was a great year for the Surge boys who finished second after winning all but one game all year. Unfortunately we also had a win overturned due to a bowling overs infringement which ended up costing the team the premiership. Notable events during the year: Eli Cox 5 Wicket innings in round 1 Bryton Caldwell 4/12 in round 2 Morgan Mace 58 no in round 6 Umar Ali 4/16 in round 11 and 4/5 in round 14 Kieren Nixon 4/8 in round 12 Joel Wood 4/11 in round 12 and 75 no in round 14 Matt Brock 61 in round 13 I am very proud of the way the boys played their cricket this year and the way in which they conducted themselves. It is the true test of a great side by the courage they show when they are down and the way they hold themselves in adversity. This year was truly a test of their character and they showed that they can rise to the challenge. A big thanks to Sheree who worked tirelessly as our manager. Also a big thanks goes to the parents who supported the boys and made the weekends enjoyable.

U15 Force

It was my great pleasure to coach this group of young men. Craig Allomes did a great job as manager and the boys had a very supportive fan group in their parents. The season started with 6 new playesr joining the team from other clubs and other boys coming back to the sport. The boys all got on well and all were keen to play the game and learn and improve their cricket. We were competitive in all the games that we played, both one day and two day games alike. We only lost 2 matches all season and we didn't play the way we could in those games. When it came to the last round we had a good win. The other CPCC team were trying for an outright win to leap frog us on the points table but finished with a first innings victory. Premiership to the ‘Force’. Well done lads. All players improved during the season, it was great to see. Tthere was always some fun and laughter during the games. I hope that all players enjoyed the season and will play again next year. It was great to see all the guys get their awards at the MWJCA presentation night, well done. I would like to mention, Lochlan Charley highest score of the season, Aaron Steven’s bowling average and aggregate, Abhijeet Virdi bowling average and outstanding efforts in rep cricket and Ellis Raymond also for outstanding efforts in rep cricket. I hope you are all enjoying the off season, hope to see you next year. Cheers

U14/1 Energy

What a team, what a great bunch of young men, and, what a season! Congratulations to the ‘Energy’ team for such a fantastic effort. Whilst many of the boys had never played cricket together, you wouldn’t have known it. They quickly became good mates and it showed in their results. The boys all had a turn at captaining, at opening the batting, and the bowling. We also had four different keepers throughout the year. The new format of having 5 separate named batters and bowlers played to our teams strengths as we were fortunate enough to have a team of all-rounders. The boys played great cricket throughout the season and ended up winning the competition (13 wins, 1 loss, 1 washout). What impressed most was not just winning the premiership in our first season, it was more about the way in which they did it. The team showed great humility in victory, a strong sense of fair play and a genuine encouragement of one another. Whilst the season showcased some great individual performances, as a happy and united squad, the boys were simply amazing. For the cricket statisticians, the team amassed 2,162 runs for the year for the loss of only 74 wickets, averaging almost 30 runs per wicket. Our bowling was equally impressive, taking 114 wickets for 1,396 runs, conceding only 12 runs per wicket. Individual Statistics (in alphabetical order)

We saw some brilliant individual and team performances throughout the season. It is unfair to pick a single highlight of the season, so here is my top three in no particular order;

Justin Calder taking a screaming 10th wicket catch at mid wicket to win a tight match against St Augustines. Onya Justin.

The teams fantastic win against second placed St Augustines Red in the final round of the season. We scored 6 declared 286, and then dismissed our opposition for 131. This showed the Saints that we truly deserved the title of ‘Premiers’.

Jack Pickering & Isaiah Vumbaca’s 140+ run partnership in the same match as above. Well done guys on a very controlled and patient innings All in all, the team had a great season and we had a lot of fun along the way. Congratulations again to each and every boy for your massive contribution throughout the year. Thanks to my fellow coaches Craig Blount and Rob Pickering for all of your efforts, and a special mention to the parents for bringing the boys to training each week, for assisting with scoring, buying coffees and always being very supportive of the boys.

U13/1 Electrodes

It is with great pleasure that I give the U13’s Div1 Electrodes season report. 2012/2013 Champions. This year was one of determination, courage and excitement. The team knew from the very start that we would lose players to private schools at Christmas time and yet they persevered throughout the season. Week after week, each player in the side stepped up to deliver some fabulous results which was evident in their batting and bowling stats. Wonderful to see so many players contributing in a positive and progressive way. At the turn of the Christmas break we were equal first with the Harbord Devils. We all knew the last game of the year would probably decide the overall place at the top of the ladder. It just so happened that the last game was indeed against the Harbord Devils to decide the overall championship. Harbord batted first and were pressured right from the start, scoring 70 or so runs in the first innings after some well-disciplined bowling from the group. Some positive batting saw the mighty Electrodes score the winning runs with the loss of a few wickets. What a great way to end the season! Our first ever championship win! What a special memory for everyone. I congratulate Hayden Brown and Adrian Caproni for leading the side with great spirit all year. Both boys afforded each and every player their opportunity to shine throughout the year. It was amazing to see so many boys contribute to the overall team result. Well done boys. Hayden Brown has requested us to thank all boys in the Under 13’s group for nominating him as the Jack Norris award winner. This too reflects the family atmosphere within the sides and also the club. Congratulations to: James Mulder winning the Batting Award, Lachlan Cale winning the Bowling award and Harrison Kantor-Smith winning the most improved/consistent player award. Well done to you all. We also wish to thank the parents who on request have stepped up to either score/help train on Wednesday afternoon/umpire. The encouragement the parents have given us both makes our jobs so easy. Thank-you Parents and Grandparents and Great Grand Parent. We also want to acknowledge Andrew Logan for being team manager for this side over many years. Andrew has been the backbone of the team for such a long time and unfortunately this year marked the end of an era with his son Damo moving to private school. Thank you Andrew for being a true friend and mentor for so many boys, past and present. Thank you to Dom Wheeler for enabling some of his boys to play with the team throughout the year when we were caught short. This represents a great club culture. We look forward to season 2013/2014 and the further development of the team. Well done boys. Under 13 Champions!

U13/2 Neutrons

And so draws to a close my fourth season at the helm of the CPCC Neutrons – a season dogged by the weather, so much so that the poor kids had to wait 84 days between games over the Xmas period! That’s obviously not an ideal way for a team to try to put some consistent performances together, but nevertheless I would like to think that everyone enjoyed themselves and hopefully learnt something along the way. We had a rather large squad of players this year for me to try to juggle, a number of which were playing ‘traditional’ cricket for the first time. This did however, give a few of the older players a chance to play up in the 1st division for a couple of games, and from all accounts they acquitted themselves quite nicely. It did take us quite a while to start to gel together as a team, but once we did we played some extraordinary cricket, highlighted by two thrilling 1 run victories. I don’t think any of the parents standing on the boundary had any fingernails left by the time those games ended! Every single one of the boys showed a solid improvement from our first training session to our last, and the quality of cricket that they played as a team also improved as the season went on, which is what every coach wants to see. All of the facets of their game, be it batting, bowling, catching, fielding, or just the general team camaraderie got better and better as the season progressed, so I must have been doing something right… The bowling award this year went to one of the original team members – Justin Soo – who has improved out of sight since day dot, and is now bowling as quick and as consistently as any other kid in the comp. We struggled to score runs all year, but the batting award went to Daniel Parker, who showed glimpses of what he is capable of if he keeps his mind on the game. Dan Horsnell, another one of our original players, was a deserving winner of the fielding award – taking a number of speckies and throwing down the stumps a couple of times with his rocket arm. I must as usual extend my sincere thanks all of the parents who helped me out both at training and at the matches all year, in particular to Anastasia Mayo and Adam Ward for both doing a great job as managers. Thanks also to all of the boys for working so hard and giving it their all for the whole season. Let’s kick on and made season 2013/14 one to remember!

U11/1 Megawatts

Yet another season has come and gone: another step in your growth and development as cricketers. This season the Megawatts Team consisted of Alex Corcoran, Kai Davies, Hudson Hurt, Dylan Lawson, Dylan Moran, Tom Pattinson, Ben Shultz, Noah Vumbaca and we also welcomed some new faces into the team, Kiwa Berry, Nick Schulenburg, Nick Taylor, Tommy Trevaskis and Cooper Westbury.

It was great to watch the whole team come together as a team. I often say “there is no “i” in team, there are no individuals . Everyone has good days and bad days with the bat and ball. It was fantastic to see you support and encourage one another in the field week in and week out.

Fundamentally there was a big change in the 2012/13 Season: adjusting from average cricket to traditional cricket. Whilst batting and bowling were rotated every match so that everyone had a fair go, this will be the next step in your cricketing career, some of you will develop into natural bowlers and natural batters. There will be a few all-rounders that fall into the middle order.

You are all very talented cricketers within your own right. The outstanding sportsmanship that you show to one another, the opposition and the umpires is a credit to you all.

Congratulations on a fantastic 2012-13 cricket season.

U11/1 Lightning

Another enjoyable season of cricket for the boys, with many highlights and fond memories.

We welcomed a few new faces to the team, and within a few weeks the guys were a team, supporting each other and enjoying each other’s successes. It was pleasing to see contributions from the newer, less experienced players, Oskar taking his first wicket and a sharp catch at gully from Ronan getting some of the biggest cheers of the season.

Individual skill levels increased steadily throughout the season with everyone making significant contributions to the team’s successes. The boys finished sixth in a very competitive league, many of the teams capable of winning on a given day. As is often the case with younger guys, runs on the board was our Achilles heel.

The awards this year went to; Sam Jones for batting, Alex Butcher for bowling and Max Faulkner for most improved player. Away from the team, Sam Jones was delighted to win the MWJCA U11/1’s award for the highest score, 62 not out and Alex Charrett, Alex Butcher and Sam Jones have all made it to the MWJCA representative squads. Well done lads.

On a sombre note, Lachlan Burgess will be leaving the team this year and representing St Augustine’s in coming seasons. Lachlan has been a corner stone for the team from under nines, and has also represented MWJCA for the last two seasons. We all wish Lachlan and the Burgess family all the very best, a big thank you to Lloyd Burgess for the coaching support over the years.

Congratulations to all the guys for a great season.

U11/2 Thunderbolts

The Thunderbolts continue to improve and had a great season finishing 4th out of 8 teams. The team handled the step up to the hard ball very well and it was great to see every member of the team get at least a wicket or two during the season. The highlight of the season was a great hard fought and comprehensive win over the Harbord Goannas – handing them their only defeat in the past 2 seasons.

Max Kocass had an excellent season with the bat and took out the bowling award with his promising leg spin bowling taking over 10 wickets for the season. New recruit Riley Smith won the best all-rounder award with 87 runs and 5 wickets in a season cut short by injury. Most improved went to the very determined Josh Sauer who was only dismissed once all season – in the final game so he could get an average! Well done boys.

We continued to share the batting, bowling and wicket-keeping during the season to ensure all the boys had an equal opportunity to improve their cricket rather than just chasing a win at all costs. The most pleasing thing to see over the season was the improvement and contribution from all the boys and some of the highlights for each of them are listed below:

Kai Horsnell: 46 runs and 4 wickets. Mike Vicini: 46 runs and 1 wicket. Tim Smith: 50 runs and 4 wickets. Patrick Blacker: 49 runs and 4 wickets. Tom Shepherd: 45 runs and 4 wickets. Sam Allam: 47 runs and 7 wickets. Sam Wallis: 72 runs and 2 wickets Will Silburn: 73 runs and 2 wickets. Max Drewe: 58 runs and 8 wickets. Riley Ward: 76 runs and 7 wickets. Josh Howard: 82 runs and 5 wickets.

Thanks to all the boys for a great season. I would also like to thank all the parents who helped during the season and especially Gary Smith and Mick Sauer with coaching, Neale Howard and Craig Silburn with umpiring and Matt Allam with scoring – it made my job very easy and was greatly appreciated by all the boys.

Look forward to seeing everyone back in 2013/14 when we start playing traditional cricket. Kim Blacker - Coach

U10/1 Gigawatts

Another very enjoyable season for the under 10/1 Gigawatts. The conversion to the leather ball really gave the boys a sense of how a cricket ball can change the game. The ongoing commitment to their game should be recognised to both players and parents. The boys have achieved so much this year in all aspects of their game. Batting, Bowling and Fielding techniques and the time and understanding of improving individual performances was our focus. Their team skills and dedication to succeed is setting them up nicely to transfer from average cricket to the exciting times of innings cricket. Strong efforts from all players ensures a good playing roster moving forward. With the boys playing together for several years now, ensures we can develop into another successful CPCC champion team.

KANGA Electric

The Electric team is a pleasure to coach. There is unlimited potential in the boys and most importantly of all, they are keen on their cricket, get on well together and are fun to be around. The biggest frustration (apart from the weather) was finding a patch of grass flat enough to play cricket on. The team had the honour of being the first CPCC team to play on the hallowed turf of Brookvale – or they would have been if there had been any turf on Brookvale Oval. It was probably the roughest ground we played on. Nevertheless it was a thrill to play there. The erratic bounce was a constant source of frustration each week particularly for our batsmen who found it hard to hit anything. We were treated to a pitch or two towards the end of the season and look forward to the hard wickets of U9s next season.

Cameron Frost – Cam is a great little batsman and handy bowler. Like most of the boys, Cam’s only problem was getting enough balls to bounce predicably on the grass pitch to hit. Luke Burgess – Luke’s work before and after training with his dad (and no doubt many hours more in the backyard) has him developing into a complete cricketer. Luke has a stylish batting technique and a great array of shots. His bowling was quick, accurate and he even added legspin to his reportoire by season’s end. Nick Burgmann – Another player developing into a complete cricketer, Nick hits the ball hard and had several great partnerships with Cam Frost in particular. Nick’s bowling action is very sound and with a bit of consistency will be knocking them over regularly. Will O’Hara – Will has natural talent and showed good form on a number of occasions with both bat and ball. He has a good bowling action and is well balanced in his batting stance as evidenced by a number of fours hit. Ben Ward – As the season progressed, Ben’s confidence and strength increased. His bowling improved greatly and Ben was able to comfortably keep out the good balls and form partnerships with the bat. Josh Blundell – Josh was one of our bigger hitters and formed an inseparable partnership with Jago whether it be batting, fielding or climbing rocks. Josh can get them down there with his bowling and just needs to work on his straight arm. Jago Barker – Candidate for most improved, Jago’s careful batting provided the perfect foil for Josh’s lusty blows when they batted together and his bowling accuracy really improved by the final games. Isaac Edwards – Isaac’s enthusiasm is infectious and he can certainly give them a whack when he bats. His long runup and ‘effort ball’ is getting more and more threatening to the batsman. Alec Huxley – Alec continues to develop all parts of his game. His highlight moments were a first ball wicket and a run out from square leg on a direct hit. Jasper Pressley – Our most energetic fielder, Jasper would run a mile to field the ball wherever it was hit and fire it back at the stumps. Jasper can hit them pretty well himself, adopting his dad’s successful relaxed batting stance. His bowling was also strong, hitting the stumps on more than one occasion. Dylan Depree – Dylan’s appearances were limited which was unfortunate as he has good natural hand-eye coordination. Matt – Rates a mention as he became a regular member of the training squad and one of our keenest. Matt has plenty of potential and it would be great to see him on the field Saturdays as well next season. Thankyou to Manager Bek O’Hara, our well-oiled machine was the envy of our opposition. Also to Chris O’Hara and Andrew Barker for training assistance and all those that found the scorebook in their lap.

KANGA Storm

The next generation of ‘baggy green’ hopefuls started their first season of cricket in 2012/13 for CPCC u7s – The Storm. Twelve wonderful boys started out learning the basic skills of catching, throwing, batting and bowling. Training was lots of fun and we had wonderful attendance at the Plateau Park on a Friday afternoon from 4pm. The boys quickly picked up the basics of this wonderful game and then went into battle for their first game of Kanga Cricket in late October. It was great to watch the boys display the skills they had quickly picked up at training and then into a real game situation – and to see the look on their faces when a delivery went straight or when a ball hit the boundary off their bat! A trip to the SCG and watch a T20 match under lights was another highlight. Let’s hope we see one of the Storm players out there one day. Some individual highlights include Matty’s awesome bowling, Michael hitting a six, Kush’s concentration, Ethan’s long hits, Charlie’s dive catching, Hunter’s run outs, Spencer’s captaincy, Ewan’s bowling, Kai’s wicket keeping, Baxter’s running between wickets, Owen’s 3 catches in one match and Max’s team work. Another highlight was having the final few games played on synthetic. This was a real buzz for the team and helped lift the standard of play also. Finally - Big thanks to Nicky, Craig and all of the supportive parents in getting boys to training and games and being there to help every Saturday. Fingers crossed all the boys return in 2013/14 to carry on some of the great work of this past season.

MILO in2CRICKET

MILO in2CRICKET is Australia’s national junior development program for boys and girls not yet involved in under age cricket competition. The program incorporates high participation with skill development. The program runs over 8-12 weeks, with sessions running for 60mins. Whilst the aim of the program is for children to develop their skills, there is always an emphasis on fun and enjoying cricket. All the equipment used is designed for young children and is safe and easy to use. Each child receives a Give-Away pack that includes a bat, ball, bag, hat, t-shirt, cd-rom and a few other promotional items. The recommended cost of the program is $50. MILO in2CRICKET is the first step in a child's long term involvement in the game of cricket. CPCC’s MILO in2CRICKET centre is linked to our junior cricket club and will lead into underage competitions. Contact Vicki Carden for more information on CPCC participation

Co-ordinators Report

Playing cricket on the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground! That was undoubtedly the highlight for our In2Cricketers in 2012/13 (and their Coaches!). My 3 year old Darcy still talks about “hitting Dad back over his head on the SCG!”.

Without hesitation I must thank the team of Coordinators that allowed every Friday at ‘The Plateau’ to become more than a hit and giggle and allow our youngest boys and girls to start developing their cricketing skills. Many thanks to Kim Blacker, Adam Pressley, Adrian Molloy, James Humberstone, Luke Ireland, Damien Kerin, Paula Robinson and even my dad Simon Horstead, and anyone else who helped out. A special thanks to Vicki Carden for coordinating registration and communication.

With such an enthusiastic group of parents and eager children we were able to run skills sessions to “get your elbow up” when batting, “straight arm past your ear” when bowling and always “keeping our eyes on the ball”. It was rewarding to have a number of parents ask if there would be more In2Cricket after Christmas. We may look to change this next summer and make the most of the warmer longer evenings.

The other highlight for the children seemed to be chasing the Coordinator and the ‘Empty the Bucket’ games. For ‘Empty the Bucket’ the Coordinator tries to empty a bucket of balls as the children gather and refill the bucket.

Friday nights at the Plateau; In2Cricket, Juniors training, BBQ cooking, parents picnicking = genuine Village Cricket. Long may this new tradition continue. All the best to those moving to Kangas and I look forward to In2Cricket during next season’s Ashes summer.
