Advanced Higher builds knowledge, understanding and skills progressively from Higher. The same skills previously assessed in Advanced Higher will continue to be assessed in similar ways in the new Advanced Higher.

Unit Assessment in AH Gàidhlig consists of three Mandatory Units:

•Reading and Writing: Writing and Literary Criticism Skills•Specialist Study: of Language and/or Culture•Translating and Interpreting

Course Assessment AH Gàidhlig consists of 3 components: •Component 1 – Practical Criticism 30 marks•Component 2 – Literature and Writing 40 marks•Component 3 –Performance - Talking 30 marks

Key Messages Gaelic Learners

Points of change• Unit Assessment The four skills previously developed in the Listening and Speaking Skills Unit and the Reading and Writing Skills Unit, are now assessed in a productive skills unit, Using Language, and a receptive skills unit, Understanding Language, following the same unit structure in a hierarchy from the lower levels. •The Specialist Study Unit replaces the Literature and Individual Study Unit, opening it up to allow learners to study either Literature or a Language in Work context. •Course Assessment

• Literature is now assessed as a Portfolio, submitted to SQA for marking.• Reading now includes a translation section and an overall purpose and

inference question, reflecting the new arrangements at the lower levels.
