New and Renewable Energy

A step to preserve Earthby

Page 2: New and RenewableEnergy

New and Renewable EnergyNew and Renewable Energy application gives information on monthly solar, wind, wave and

ocean power potential. Reference layers such as locations of smart cities, solar cities,

airports, railway stations, network of railway lines, highways Cartosat-I Mosaic(2.5m), DEM,

RISAT(18m),LISS III(24m), AWIFS(56m) and administrative boundaries of India are also

available.

Solar Energy

Solar Power is calculated using insolation product of India’s Geostationary Satellites

namely, Kaplana and INSAT 3D from imager payload.

Under Data & Analysis menu, locations of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy

(MNRE) research stations are available.

Spatial maps of average monthly and annual insolation from 2009 to current year are

available.

Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI), Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI), Diffuse Horizontal

Irradiance (DHI) and Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of a location are available for

pan-India.

The 72 hours forecast of solar insolation at every 15 minutes interval is available.

Solar Calculator

For any Desired location within India, Solar

calculator gives a summary table of suggested

solar Tilt angle, Annual Global (minimum,

average, maximum and previous year)

Insolation, Energy Potential, CUF, DNI, DHI and

GHI at that location.

Monthly average insolation and temperature data

(minimum and maximum) are available in tabular

and graphical format.

Graphical representation of sun path (depends

on topography) on shortest day (Dec 21),

longest day (June 21), for equal day and night

(Mar and Sep 21) and current day are provided.

Graph of day length and chart of 72 hours

forecast at 15 minutes intervals is available.

Solar Site Selection ToolSolar Site Selection tool is an interactive visualisation tool which shows area satisfying user

criteria based on multi-criteria such as minimum insolation, landuse, slope, and distance

from road and grid network.

User AnalysisUser Analysis displays the overall users using the solar calculator Mobile App and wind

calculator Mobile App along with solar and wind calculator on webpage for finding Solar and

Wind energy potential. It displays the different users using the App and viewing the webpage

from different part of the country.

Wind EnergyWind energy is the second fastest growing source of electricity in the world. Harnessing

energy from wind and converting into electricity has several advantages. Wind power is

calculated using wind speed and direction product (at 10m height) derived from QuikSCAT

and India’s OSCAT. It gives visualisation monthly and annual wind power, wind speed &

direction (actual and model).

Page 8: New and RenewableEnergy

Wind CalculatorWind calculator showcases the monthly wind speed, wind power along with wind direction intabular and graphical format. It displays wind energy potential for 72 hrs forecast at 15 minutesinterval fordesiredlocation.

Page 9: New and RenewableEnergy

Wave EnergyOcean wave has enormous energy potential and it is harnessed from sea waves. It is one

of the most sustainable energy source. The rigorous vertical motion of sea waves contains

kinetic energy which can be further used as electric energy. Wave Power displays the wave

height, wave power and wave periods in form of maps in (observed and modelled).

Ocean EnergyOcean wave has enormous energy potential and it is harnessed from sea waves. It is one of themost sustainable energy source. Ocean power is useful for visualizing tapping depth, energy fluxandtemperature difference of theoceanon themonthly basis.
