New Arrivals: March 12, 2020 Birnbaum, A. (Abe). Green Eyes (Caldecott Honor). Irvington-On- Hudson, NY: Capitol Publishing, 1953. First Edition. Square 4to. Good / Poor. Beige cloth with cat design on upper cover, spine title in brown and green ink, top corner bumped, wear to extremities, pages a bit thumbed and occasional light finger soil; dust jacket worn, missing pieces, old tape repairs, soiled, origi- nal price intact ($2.50). A year in a young cat's life, modeled after Birn- baum's own cat. This was Birn- baum's first book for children and the only one he both wrote and illus- trated. Birnbaum is best known for his work for the New Yorker, for which he did over 200 covers. Green Eyes was awarded a Caldecott Honor and was also a New York Times Best Illustrated Book. Archibald Alexander Park (Engraver). Finsbury, London: A. Park, 47 Leon- ard Street, Circa 1840 (publisher was at this ad- dress from 1835-1863). 12mo. Very Good / No Jacket. 7 x 4 inches (18 x 12 cm). Pictorial blue paper wraps with some wear and corner creasing, amazingly clean but with some offset- ting. 8 leaves containing an abbreviated version of the familiar, humorous verse about Mother Hubbard and her talented dog with equally amusing engravings colored by hand as issued. $250.00

Stories featuring toys come-to-life, including a Golliwogg, Steiff teddy bear and all sorts of zoo ani-mals; illustrated with 24 full-page color plates by G. Fyffe Christie who is best known for illustrating The Plantation Alphabet and Round de Old Plantation. Scarce. $400.00

Pictorial boards with light wear to extremities, bookstore sticker affixed to endpaper, occasional light finger soil, but overall clean, one crack in the binding; housed in original box with light wear and slightly faded. Beautiful color artwork throughout appearing as full and partial page. A beautiful copy of a scarce Volland title. $325.00

Sarg, Tony (Adversiting Shredded Wheat). Tony Sarg's Animal Circus: Picture Story Album (Unused!) . No Place: Nabisco, 1937. Near Fine / No Jacket As Issued. 7.5 x 4 inches. Cover card is scuffed, else a Fine set. A full set of Shredded Wheat prizes illustrated by Tony Sarg. Each card features an animal engaged in a human activity and descriptive text; as can be expected from Sarg, they are quite humorous. There are 36 cards in all (including the cover card), each is un-colored and un-punched. A child was meant to collect all of the cards, color them and then punch holes where indicated to make his / her own book. Complete sets are rare, unused, rarer still. $450.00
