Two scholarships, each valued at$ 500, have been instituted by the localCIFST section to recognize academicexcellence and participation in CIFSTactivities by Food Science and FoodTechnology students in Newfoundland. The first awards will be given in the fall1988.

Good news concerning membership. The number of CIFST members in oursection has shown a significantincrease from 40 at the end of 1987 to80, thanks to vigorous recruitmentactivities conducted by our local executive.

The 1991 IUFoST Congress Committee would like to express appreciationto the many CIFST Members who havedemonstrated their support for theInternational Union of Food Scienceand Technology Congress we will behosting in Toronto in three years.

In late 1987 we mailed requests for$ 5 contributions to every Member andin response we have collected about$3300. This will help in establishingworking capital for our Committee aswe begin planning for this large undertaking. And since all profits from the1991 Congress will be directed to theCIFST Scholarship Trust Fund, we knowyou will continue to see the benefits insupporting this important Canadianevent.
