New Beginnings Small Groups Continue to Meet

Remember that you are still invited to be part of a New Beginnings Small Group.

Deep discussions about our passion for ministry, what we are best at, and our

resources for ministry have been taking place this week. In future weeks small

groups will explore more information about our church, our community, and what

it means for this congregation to be in ministry in this community.

As we discern where God is calling our congregation your voice is important.

You are welcome to sign up for any small group that fits your schedule by contacting the church

office or Pastor Donna. If you are out of town for the day that your group meets, make plans to

attend a different group that week by calling the small group leader of the group you plan to at-

tend. We ask that you call that group leader as a courtesy so that s/he will have enough handouts

for all participants that week.

8 Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is

pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise,

think about these things. 9 Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and

seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

Phil 4:8-9

This Sunday, several of you shared stories about how you saw God present in the world

around us. Later, after worship, one person shared how their life had been particularly touched by

someone who was homeless. A hug had been shared between the two people, and in the process

both had feelings of being seen, loved, and appreciated by God and each other.

One of the topics in your small groups this week has been what do we do well at NWCC?

One thing I’d like to lift up to you is that this congregation is especially good at loving people in the

circumstances in which those people find themselves. Just as different people are given different

spiritual gifts, so congregations are given different spiritual gifts. One of the spiritual gifts of this con-

gregation is that of hospitality…offering not just food and drink, but space for people to be them-

selves, accepting them as they are. That happened when you hosted immigrant families; it hap-

pened when you came to love and embrace Eldo; and it is still happening today, whether through

the care and love you offer is extended to a child, to someone who is homeless, or to some other

person who needs special care.

As we continue meeting in small groups, it’s true that there will be some tough discussions.

I hope you will remember your spiritual gifts as a community of faith as well as remembering these

words from Paul, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be

known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and

supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God,

which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

(Phil 4:4-7)

As you gather I know that you continue to extend the love and hospitality that is a vital part of who

you are. I know that all of us are praying daily, and I know that God is walking beside us each step

of the way.

Prayers and Peace,

Donna

Kairos

Elders met on May 16 and spent some

time in deep and moving prayer, asking for

God’s leading. Elders are supporting the

New Beginnings process through their

presence and their prayers over the weeks

ahead. They will not meet as a group in

June, but may gather in July as needed.
