    INTRODUCTION

    y Dengue is a mosquito borne viral illness caused by one of

    the four serotypes DEN V.

    y Mosquito that spread dengue virus belong to Aedesspecies; Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus.

    y Disease is now endemic in more than 100 countries.

    y WHO estimates that there may be 50 million dengue

    infections every year.

    y In our country Dengue has emerged as most important

    arthropode borne illness over the past few years.

    y It is possible for a person to be infected with dengue asmany as four times.

    y As the dengue virus become endemic in a population, the

    percentage of children among affected population

    increases.

    y So, a study was planned & conducted last year to see theclinical profile of children affected with dengue.

    Materials&Methods

    y It was a descriptive study

    .

    y Department of Pediatrics

    y From August 2011 to October 2011.

    y 254 admitted patients were included in study.

    y Patients were divided in 3 groups;i. DF

    ii. DHF

    iii. Unusual dengue fever

    MATERIALS&METHODS

    y The symptoms, signs as well as laboratory profileincluding

    ( Hb, TLC, PLT, Hct) on day 3, 5, 6&7 and dengue

    serology was carried out.y The information was obtained on a pre-desgined

    proforma and entered in to SPSS version. 18and thenanalyzed.

    RESULTS

    y 212 pts had dengue fever, 39 had DHF, 3 had unusual

    dengue.

    y Headache, backache, abdominal pain was more

    significantly associated with DHF than DF.

    y Conversely, Epistaxis was more significantly associated

    with DF

    DHF.

    DISCUSSION

    y Mean age in our study was 8.9 3.7yrs as comparedto 9.8 4.2 yrs1.

    y In our study %age ofDF/DHF was 86/15.3 ascompared to 31/69% 2.

    DISCUSSION

    y Most common symptom in our study was headacheas compared to vomiting1.

    y Epistaxis was significantly more prevalent in DFthan DHF, it is similar in other study but difference

    was not significant2.

    CONCLUSION

    y Headache,bodyache, backache are moresignificantly associated with DHF than DF, however,epistaxis is significantly associated DF than DHF.

    LIMITATIONS

    y It is a hospital based study , so , results can,t beextrapolated to whole poulation.
