Welcome to Stenograph’s New Computer Setup Guide. So, you have purchased a new computer

and need to get Case CATalyst installed along with all your files, get Realtime working, and be

able to record audio. This guide will help you get all of that working so you are ready for your

next Realtime job. Just follow the directions and you’ll be up and running in no time. If you

have a question or need assistance with a step, please contact Technical Support at 1-800-323-

4247.

System Requirements

Operating System

• Windows 10

If your computer is running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, download the Legacy Computer Setup

Guide here.

NOTE: Microsoft will end support of Windows 7 on January 14, 2020 and will no longer provide

security updates or support information. Stenograph strongly recommends using a current

Operating System due to security concerns and limited ability to troubleshoot Windows 7 related

issues. Windows 8.1 will continue to be supported until January 10, 2023.

Computer Processor

A Pentium processor speed of 2GHz or higher. An Intel i3, i5, i7, or AMD equivalent is strongly

recommended.

RAM (Memory)

2 GB of RAM or more.

4 GB of RAM or more is required if using the RealTeam feature.

If you use Case CATalyst VP, at least 4 GB of RAM is recommended.

Hard Drive

40 GB hard drive with at least 20 GB of free space. An 80 GB hard drive or larger is

recommended.

Video Card

A DirectX 9 compatible video card with a minimum of 256 MB Video RAM.

Display

SVGA monitor capable with a 1024x768 or higher resolution.

Audio Card

Page 4: New Computer Setup Guide...NOTE: The difference between with IVT and without IVT is with IVT includes the Integrated Video Training; videos that show basic features of Case CATalyst

A Windows compatible sound card for audio recording at 8KHz, 16-bit.

Microphone

A Windows compatible external, self-powered or battery powered microphone.

Ports

A USB port for the writer to write realtime, update the writer dictionary, and update the writer

software.

A 9-pin Serial port to connect the writer to write realtime. If your computer does not have a 9-

pin Serial port, you will need a USB to Serial port compatible adapter. Depending on your

writer, a 9-pin Serial port may be optional.

Optional Equipment

A Windows compatible mouse or other pointing device.

External Floppy Drive for reading notes from legacy writing machines and importing files from

older CAT software.

NOTE: Many editing commands rely on the Function Keys (F1 - F12), especially the F4 key

when inserting format symbols. Many computer manufacturers change the Function Keys to

Multimedia Keys (increase/decrease volume, increase/decrease screen brightness, etc.). This

can cause these editing commands to not function. If your computer’s Function Keys are

Multimedia keys, consult your computer’s documentation or contact the computer manufacturer

for assistance.

CATalyst. We’ll be using the Restore feature in Case CATalyst to bring the files in.

Page 27: New Computer Setup Guide...NOTE: The difference between with IVT and without IVT is with IVT includes the Integrated Video Training; videos that show basic features of Case CATalyst

NOTE: If you are using Case CATalyst version 17.50 or higher and use Cloud Backup, click here

for help restoring your files from the cloud.

1) Open Case CATalyst. You should be at the User Level. Double click on your name to go

into the user.

Your user will look like this.

TIP: If you would like Case CATalyst to automatically log into your user when open the

program, after you double click your name click the Tools menu and select Auto Logon.

In the Auto Logon dialog box, left click the radio button next to Always start Case

CATalyst with user: yourname, then click Ok.

2) Now click the Tools menu and select Restore (or press Ctrl+r) to restore your files.

5) A dialog box may open asking if you want to replace the existing file. This dialog box

comes up if Case CATalyst already has a file with the same name as the file you’re

restoring. Since this is a new computer, Case CATalyst only has the default files and not

any of your backed-up files. So, in this case you will want to choose Yes to All.

6) Once the restore is finished, it will bring you back to the Manage Jobs screen. If there are

other files you would like to restore, repeat this same process.
