NEW ELEMENT V ELECTRIC DRIVES GROWING IN DEMAND Thanks to the new Element V Electric drive, many of today’s battery-powered lawnmowers can now operate for an hour or longer — enough time to mow most yards of an acre or less. It’s no wonder they are gaining momentum in retailers. The engineering breakthrough behind the Element V drive innovation is dividing work. One motor powers the transmission, the other controls blade speed. This dual motor system maximizes efficiencies and allows full usage of the available battery capacity. The ability to change speed on the fly, seamlessly and almost effortlessly, also elevates battery-powered walk- behinds to a new level of performance. GT’s Element V Electric drives are lubricated for life and don’t need preventive maintenance, other than some simple regular cleaning. REPAIR RATHER THAN REPLACE Bringing innovative design, lightweight composite materials and maintenance-free features to the industry means that GT must also support exceptional customer service as well. To achieve top-tier service for dealers, GT has developed an intuitive online tool that makes it easy to diagnose and repair Element V automatics and transaxles. There is a key tool to use plus 13 kits or components that are easily changed out. Look for the black housing — the sure sign it is an Element V and can be repaired. the engineering breakthrough behind the element V drive innovation is dividing work. one motor powers the transmission, the other controls blade speed. this dual motor system maximizes efficiencies and allows full usage of the available battery capacity.

the ability to change speed on the fly, seamlessly and almost effortlessly, also elevates battery-powered walk-behinds to a new level of performance.

Gt’s element V electric drives are lubricated for life and don’t need preventive maintenance, other than some simple regular cleaning.

elemeNt V proDUcts UtiliZe New aGe materialsThe “digital age” and the “plastics age” are gaining a larger foothold in the lawn and garden industry.

as carmakers and other manufacturers embrace plastics and composite materials to deliver more fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly products, they are exploring even more alternatives to metal components.

Gt borrowed a page from the automotive playbooks in producing its composite–based transmissions. and borrowed another page from automakers in the understanding that “the fewer moving parts to any components, the better”.

Gt locks its injection-molded housing components in place with a set of screws for maintenance–free performance throughout the life of the mower. the result is a pound-for-pound advantage over traditional metal-made housings. since the cVt is more efficient, less heat needs to be dissipated, allowing us to use composites rather than aluminum. this will leave more power to the wheels for better handling on slopes, or when towing light loads.

Now that there are over 20 million Gt plastic-composite-engineered transmissions on walk-behinds worldwide and at least 500,000 element V automatics available on lawn tractors, more consumers recognize the value of new age materials for their own products.

the element V rs 800 and rt 400 cVts now equip about 30% of all moderately priced, consumer-grade lawn tractors sold annually in the U.s.

Q My tractor runs fine and does great on level ground but the transmission seems to slip when I go up an incline. What could this be?

A If you are noticing a slip or loss of speed this would be from the CVT belt slipping due to trying to transmit too much torque at a high rate of speed. Think about going up an incline on a multispeed bicycle. You wouldn’t want to put the bike into a higher gear to climb, you would want to use a lower gear to get more torque to use less energy to get up the hill. It’s the same concept with our transmission so we suggest going at about mid-speed for more torque/power when climbing a hill.

Q I noticed gear oil or grease on the axles and inside the tires. Can the axle seals be replaced and what type of oil or grease do I need to add, how much and where do I add it and check the level?

A You can purchase new seals, part #GT41857, for your RS800 transmission through our distributor in your area, or on Amazon.com. These are easy and quick to replace. We have bulletins and videos on our website at generaltransmissions.com to help with any repairs or replacements. You’ll be able to install the new ones by simply pushing them in place. As for the grease, we use an EP 00 synthetic grease and your unit was packed with three pounds at manufacturing. The grease is in there mainly for heat dispersion and for some lubricating. Unless you’ve lost over one pound of grease, you won’t need to add any.

Q I just purchased my lawn tractor and wanted to get more information than what is provided from the manufacturer and learn a little more about your transaxle. Are parts available from you for the transmission and where can I get them? Are there any troubleshooting tips before I take my tractor back to the dealer?

A If you ever need parts, we have some available on Amazon and we also have four distributors in the in the U.S. and Canada. For more information including RS800 troubleshooting videos, bulletins and parts list, please visit services.generaltransmissions.com.

“Zero BUYer’s remorse.the whole reason i bought [my riding mower] was because of your transmission. the mower grabs when i’m on a hill or pulling a light load. No noticeable loss of traction. this is a great mower with a great transmission. “

– David in Kentucky

“JUst Keeps GiViNG.my trade is an auto and marine engineer… this little mower just keeps giving. my lawn takes nearly two hours. this machine cuts the time in half.”

– Arthur in New Zealand

“i am happY with the choice.one of the primary reasons i chose it was for the Gt rs800 cVt, which based on info i’ve found, should be more durable than anything else remotely close in this price range of lawn tractor. well-built and durable.”

– Scott in Virginia

the same kind of imaginative approaches, persistence and openness to new things would follow robert through the many phases that led to his mastery of new technologies, and to the launching of a worldwide business.

his first quest was to gain hands-on expertise in plastic injection molding. he also identified a need in the lawn and garden market–a more reliable transmission for equipment manufacturers.

Diving into the problem full speed with the strength of his inventive, entrepreneurial aptitude, Blanchard developed his own designs and injection molds while creating sales for his new product.

his enduring mechanical talent and curiosity led to an accelerated learning curve and fixing of problems to fast-track his product’s reliability, and

ultimately its acceptance in the market. he even designed his own test bench.

By the end of the 90’s, robert’s company was the european leader and about to expand. his enthusiasm and verve prompted his daughter and son-in-law, Nathalie and wouter Barendrecht to pick up stakes, move to mexico and manufacture transmissions at record-breaking speed. Next, the team opened a plant in china to compete with imitators on their own soil.

as the company continues to grow exponentially, robert Blanchard’s spirit of undaunted enthusiasm, rigor in design and engineering, unwavering innovating, and constant customer service, has permeated every square foot of the General transmissions facilities and every customer relationship. From innovation center to testing rooms, there is a sense that relentless pursuit is in the DNa.

cUriositY. eNthUsiasm. iNGeNUitY. When Robert Blanchard grew up on a farm in rural France, you were likely to find him working on the tractors and inventing ingenious fixes for the constant mechanical issues that confront most farming operations.

Robert Blanchard, founder of General Transmissions, passed

away peacefully in 2016.

“Great price perFormaNce. i did quite a bit of research. it has hydrostatic-like drivability at a better price point, automatic braking in neutral pedal position, and really fast travel when the mower is not engaged.”

– Peter in Massachusetts
