In order to meet the expectations of today’s TV consumer, service providers need to deploy more flexible architectures that can handle multiple types of content delivery without having to build vast ecosystems. What is more, increasing numbers of broadcasters and content owners are bypassing entire networks and looking to deliver content over-the-top (OTT). With the fast pace in which technology changes, there is increasing importance in the ability to launch services quicker than ever, while also having the flexibility to migrate smoothly between different processing platforms.

At the same time TV service providers need to leverage the benefits provided by their existing investments, while bringing in new technologies to work alongside current infrastructures in such a way that operational complexity is not increased. Simplifying operational processes and

providing the flexibility to change architectures safely and easily becomes a key requirement.

Increase in video traffic places heavy demands on networks, so maximizing bandwidth efficiency remains an underlying challenge. Having the best compression performance to enable the delivery of the highest video quality to consumers is becoming crucial in an environment with a high number and choice of delivery mechanisms for the increasing content types.

This drives the need for agile solutions with faster time to market, flexible architectures and OPEX models, which would enable media players to meet growing consumer expectations simply and reliably over multiple deployment options of video processing and always ensuring the best performance.

ericsson mediafirst video processingMediaFirst Video Processing is the most advanced software-defined video processing offering from Ericsson to address all media processing requirements from acquisition to video delivery to all screens.

It is built upon nearly 25 years of world-leading video compression expertise, powered by award winning in-house R&D and algorithm research and now including the most comprehensive virtualized video encoding capabilities in the industry. MediaFirst Video Processing

takes a uniquely powerful and flexible approach to video processing for the delivery of ultra-high quality video with the highest efficiency, supporting rapid deployment and development on any platform, while also offering a unified workflow. It embraces Ericsson’s move towards software centric architectures to address operators’ challenges, while retaining core competencies of performance, flexibility, scalability and reliability.

A World of ApplicationsAt the heart of Ericsson MediaFirst Video Processing is a suite of applications, allowing a ‘mix and match’ approach to meet operators’ processing needs. It offers the most comprehensive video processing toolset that can run across any platform type. With MediaFirst Video

Processing, Ericsson does not only offer the flexibility to bundle functionalities in the best way to meet specific customer needs, but in a world where technology changes fast, it allows the evolution of each individual functional block as a standalone component or service solution.

The management layer provides the gateway to the system, simplifying setup, control and management of all processing applications, and providing a dynamic and customizable window on the health and status of the system. Providing an abstracted and workflow-based service configuration mechanism, MediaFirst Video Processing addresses the complexity operational teams

mediafirst video processingkey componentsMediaFirst Video Processing is built on an open framework that connects three core components: video-specific management, processing and compute platforms.

The processing suite is comprised of all the transformation functions Ericsson has developed in its award winning receivers, encoders and multiplexer products. The toolset addresses every processing need from 4:2:2 10 bit decoding to HEVC encoding at Ultra HD resolutions. Customers have full flexibility to licence

now have to manage by providing a consistent and user friendly, UX focused management layer. With a focus on rapid service deployment and architecture change, combined with simple abstracted management views, this complexity is absorbed by MediaFirst Video Processing and not the operation budget.
