Since our last issue, I am pleased to report that, once again, our JEC colleagues have proven that cooperation and teamwork pay rich dividends. Our basketball players triumphed in the McKenzie Cup Final; our healthy and hearty rowers, representing the Jardine Sports Asso-ciation, claimed an impressive 1st runner-up in the highly competitive Dragon Boat Races; and, our colleagues from many departments pooled resources and expertise to earn a Gold Medal for Excellence at the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers Awards and a Silver Medal for Best Presentation at the Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Awards.

As you can see, when we share resources and collaborate as a team, anything is possible!

自從上期怡和機器雜誌出版後，我再有喜訊要

與大家分享。怡和機器的員工再次以實際行動

證明合作和團隊精神會帶來豐厚的回報。首

先，我們的籃球隊在McKenzie盃籃球總決賽中

凱旋而歸；而我們一批精力充沛的龍舟健兒，

代表怡和機器在怡和體育會參加今年度競爭激

烈的龍舟比賽亦奪得亞軍。此外，得到眾多部

門的同事傾注了大量資源和專業知識，我們獲

得香港保險業聯會職安健金獎以及2005香港職

業安全健康大獎的最佳演繹銀獎。

由此可見，只要我們分享資源、發揮團隊精

神、凡事都可以取得成功！

It’s a pleasure to present you with another issue of Jardine Engineering Corporation’s JEC Magazine. In this particular issue, we are proud to highlight our efforts to focus on customer satisfaction and JEC’s ongoing efforts on many fronts to create, enhance and maintain greater loyalty among new and existing customers across the Asia Pacific region.

Several months ago, JEC launched a very important customer focused initiative – The JEC Customer Survey – to solicit feedback and comments on our overall organisation, businesses, solutions, products, services, and as partners in some of the most exciting markets in the world. The results of the customer survey, due out in a couple of months, will be incredibly valuable, and it is important that we have the feedback to find out what we are doing right, where we can make improvements, and to identify opportunities where JEC can address a need, answer a question, and provide a solution for our valued customers. Once the results of the survey have been consolidated, analysed, studied and mea-sured, we will utilise the conclusions to make immediate, short-term, and long-term changes to our organisation in our continued quest for greater customer satisfaction and continuous improvement towards achieving excellent business results. Most impor-tantly, we will be feeding back the results to our customers and keeping them up to date on the improvements we will be making.

Through direct communication with our customers, we can recognise what our customers want in delivering a wide range of solutions across many different platforms. By listening to our customers, we tapped into JEC’s collective businesses, expertise, brainpower and resources, shared our capabilities, and took the first step toward delivering better products and services to our customers. By combining JEC’s businesses into a single, full offer to all customers, we are now prepared to meet our customer’s needs at each level, whether it’s a product, designing an entire system or fulfilling a service contract. From start to finish, we are determined to provide proactive solutions and assistance to meet the needs of each of our customers.

On a final note I would like to congratulate our people on the large number of awards and achievements recorded during the spring in particular the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Award which serves as a benchmark for which we should all be proud. As always, JEC Magazine is intended to provide you with an update on JEC activities and capabilities in the region. Each issue will open new avenues through which we can serve you and your organisation better. We hope you enjoy this issue, and we invite your feedback and if you have any comments, please feel free to send them to james.graham@jec.com.

As part of JEC’s ongoing effort to better serve our customers and realise greater cooperation and synergies among staff, the Kowloon office relocated to Sunbeam Plaza in Tai Kok Tsui on 23 May 2005. The new office is a spacious 8,100 square feet, can accommodate 70 employees and combines the Kowloon staff with part of the fire service, electrical and clerical departments now trans-ferred to Kowloon from the offices originally stationed in Central.

Likewise, the Central office relocated from Prince’s Building to a more strategic location in Jardine House on 23 May 2005. The grand opening ceremony for the new office was held on 26 May 2005 and officiated by Chief Executive, James Graham and JEC Direc-tors. Attendees included honourable guests and executives from Hong Kong Land. The new Central office will allow for the expansion of the business in the Central District and nearby areas and enable the maintenance and renovation business to improve customer service, expand coverage and explore ad-ditional opportunities on Hong Kong Island.

攬更多的工程，從而提升我們維修及保養的客

戶服務，擴大市場佔有率，在港島開拓更多

商機。

On the night of 24 March, JEC held its annual Spring Dinner at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Exhibition and Conven-tion Centre. For the JEC organisation, it was a long-awaited opportunity to acknowledge appreciation for the support and cooperation of key business partners and suppliers over the past year. During the dinner, Mr James Graham, CEO of JEC, formally expressed JEC’s gratitude by presenting “Business Partner of the Year 2004” awards to Armitage Shanks, Milliken Carpet and Cummins Power Generation, and by presenting “Supplier of the Year 2004” awards to Chi Shing Trading & Engineering and Wan’s Kee Yip Engineering & Metal Works.

For the staff, the annual Spring Dinner was a chance to relax and enjoy good food, camaraderie and entertainment includ-ing games of chance, competitions, singing, dancing, excellent performances by several talented employees and of course, the lucky draw.

JEC also invited several talented students from local Hong Kong universities to the Spring Dinner and honoured their academic performance with scholarships to support further study. The JEC Scholarship 2004 was presented to the fol-lowing students who demonstrated excellence in the fields of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering : Mr James Lee and Mr Kelvin Yip from the University of Hong Kong, and Mr Suker So from Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Customers, Officials and Partners Join JEC Race Night 2005商業夥伴參加怡和機器2005賽馬之夜

On 11 May, over 30 honoured customers, gov-ernment officials and business partners were invited to join JEC at the Hong Kong Jockey Club at Happy Valley. Nobody is quite sure who was the big winner of the night, but Race Night 2005 served as a good reminder of the fun and excitement when business and plea-sure are combined in the right environment. Appreciative of the overwhelmingly positive response to this event, JEC has already started planning more gatherings of this kind for the future.

JEC Director Honoured By UK Institution怡和機器業務董事獲殊榮 Congratulations to Mr Raymond Lin who was recently granted a Fellowship by The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers of the United Kingdom. Closer to home, he also has been appointed as a member of the Electrical and Mechanical Ser-vices Industry Training Committee in Hong Kong.

JEC Scholarships Support Promising Apprentices怡和機器獎學金支助優秀學徒

For many years, JEC has been providing annual scholarships and support to students and ap-

prentices from the Vocational Training Council (VTC) programme for the Hong Kong Air-conditioning Industry. This year’s ceremony was held on 15 June at JEC headquarters. Students awarded the JEC Apprentice Scholarship 2005 include Mr Cheung Hok Wing, Mr Ho Pak On, Mr Wu Kin Kan, and Mr Yau Kai Cheung. The Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship was also presented to the following graduating apprentices: Mr Chan Pui Keung, Mr Chow Wing Hong, Mr Kwok Chun Wai and Mr Lam Chi Wan.

Engineering is about the application of skills, knowledge and experience to conceive, design, build, and maintain products, ideas, devices, processes or systems to the benefit of the community and the region. As an organisation, the VTC plays a vital role in preparing promising young students for the technical and mechanical challenges of the modern workplace.

JEC is dedicated to supporting the VTC in developing a workforce that is trained to the highest inter-national standards, and designing apprenticeships to attract talented and motivated young persons into the industry. The apprenticeships provide the basis for a range of occupations at JEC and further career development.

Upon completion of their training and apprenticeship, a VTC graduate is a very valuable commodity in Hong Kong. The business community is always looking for young, skilled workers who have the ben-efit of proper professional training and are ready to work. In the past, JEC has sourced many excellent employees from the ranks of VTC graduates, and we will continue to support and be the beneficiaries of the VTC’s programme for many years to come.

多年來，怡和機器每年都會頒發獎學金給予就讀職業訓練局的空氣調節及冷凝

技工計劃的學徒以表支持。今年頒發獎學金的儀式於6月15日在怡和機器總部舉

行。獲頒2005怡和機器學徒獎學金的學生有：張學榮、何柏安、胡健勤、游啟

祥。另外怡和機器還向以下學徒頒發了實習證書(滿師紙)：陳沛強、郭進威、林

志宏、周永康。

工程學(Engineering)是關於把技能、知識和經驗應用到構想、設計、建造和保

養產品、意念、設備、製作或系統中，以貢獻社會。作為一個培訓組織，職業

訓練局為最新業界在培養技術及機械方面的年輕學徒擔當了重要的角色。

怡和機器致力於支持職業訓練局培養一批符合最高國際標準的業界精英，提

供實習機會以吸引有才幹、積極能幹的年輕人投身這行業。透過學徒計劃，

年輕人擁有在怡和機器實習的寶貴經驗，為將來在業界發展或成為怡和機器一

份子奠下根基。

在職業訓練局完成培訓和學徒計劃後的畢業生是香港的寶貴財富。業界一直

以來都非常歡迎擁有專業技術，受專業訓練能隨時為社會服務的年輕人才加

入。受惠于此，多年來，怡和機器從職業訓練局的畢業生那裡挖掘了許多優

秀的員工。一如既往，怡和機器在未來將繼續支持職業訓練局的計劃，同時

繼續成為該計劃的受益者。

In 2004, this costly and needless waste of police resources led the Hong Kong Police De-

partment to introduce stricter response protocols and regulations. Under the new response

scheme, all alarmed premises now fall into one of four response categories. Going forward,

only premises with no history of false alarms will be guaranteed a full police response, while

those with a record of prior false alarms may receive no response at all.

In 2004, sensing a unique opportunity to meet and exceed customer’s security needs in Hong

Kong, JEC designed and developed a Signal Monitoring Centre (SMC) using the world’s most

advanced monitoring and security technology.

For customers, the SMC directly addresses the problem of false alarms and helps to ensure

that customers receive police response to real incidents. When alarms are triggered at a cus-

tomer’s place of business, the SMC can detect every sensor that triggered the alarm, showing

the location and when it was triggered. Such state-of-the-art technology quickly builds a clear

picture of what is happening at the customer’s premises, allowing the professionally trained

JEC operators to distinguish between a real alarm and a false alarm. In fact, the SMC is

capable of responding to over 250 individual alarm sensors from any one system at any time,

making it the most powerful system in Hong Kong.

“Individual alarm signal identification is particularly important when connected to building man-

agement systems (BMS),” says Mr Charlie Ho, Operations Manager of SMC. “With so many

zones within a building, it is critical for operators to inform the building-in-charge the exact

location of the signal received to reduce the time to investigate the case.” The SMC can also

provide video monitoring services to customers by integrating their video surveillance systems

to the centre. Video images are transmitted to the centre simultaneously with the alarm signal

whenever a sensor is triggered, allowing the operators to view the premises immediately and

help identify whether the alarm is real or false.

While the SMC’s design specifically helps JEC customers manage the risk of false alarms, the

SMC also provides a coordination point for a much wider range of additional security technolo-

gies, such as instant video, access control, CCTV, biometrics, audio, X-ray machines, detec-

tors, and perimeter protection affording customers complete peace of mind. The completion

of the SMC in 2004 catapulted JEC into a commanding presence in the growing market for

advanced security monitoring and systems in Hong Kong, and JEC has continued to grow the

business to develop strategic and related security infrastructure, as well as service and support

networks to more effectively leverage Hong Kong’s most modern signal monitoring centre.

In Hong Kong, did you know that more than 99% of alarm calls to the police are false alarms?

“For every customer, a big part of the total offer is JEC signature aftermarket service. Our li-

censed and professional service technicians provide regular and thorough maintenance checks

to ensure every system is operating correctly and not producing false alarms,” continued Mr Ho.

“To complement our alarm monitoring services, JEC also provides fire monitoring services, and

we are proud to be one of the Hong Kong companies with a license to provide fire monitoring

services that will comply with more stringent Fire Services Department standards in the future.”

This year, Sa Sa International Holdings Ltd., one of the leading cosmetics retailing and beauty

care groups in Asia, contracted JEC Security Systems to provide total security and monitoring

solutions in Hong Kong. Sa Sa currently maintains over 40 retail outlets in Hong Kong that

offer customers more than 15,000 beauty and personal care products. Whilst CCTV systems

now provide overall surveillance during opening hours, alarm system protect the shop against

break-in and vandalism after closing. All these alarm systems are connected to the JEC SMC

to ensure 24-hour alarm signal monitoring services and protection. Recently, JEC was also

selected to provide similar security solutions in Macau, where Sa Sa has further expanded its

Asian presence and opened several new retail outlets.

While the development of the SMC significantly strengthens JEC’s offer in Hong Kong, JEC has

plans to extend this expertise to other markets in the future. The long-term goal is to integrate

the Security System’s business more broadly with other region-wide JEC businesses, and to

offer region-wide security solutions that meet the requirements and challenges of customers

across a broad range of applications.

In the end, the success and growth of the JEC Security Systems can best be summed up by

the growing needs of one very important group.

“It’s all about the customer,” says Mr SH Wu, Chief Operating Officer of JEC. “This business

started with a vision of providing the most advanced and complete security solutions for our

customers through sharing our capabilities and tapping into the security sector’s collective

brainpower and resources to deliver total value to Hong Kong customers. Today, JEC is pre-

pared to meet any customers’ monitoring and security needs on any level, and we can do that

through the SMC. We can deliver everything from alarms to surveillance, CCTV, perimeter se-

curity, monitoring systems, access systems, security systems services, and much more. Both

now and in the future, we want to be part of our customers’ entire security plans.”

由於大量的警鐘誤鳴，花費了警方人力物力及造成嚴重的浪費資源。因此，警方在2004年制

定了更嚴格的警報處理程序及規則。在新的程序中，所有安裝了警報系統的物業會分為四個

等級，這些等級是參照以往警鐘誤鳴的記錄而制定。即是說，只要過往沒有警鐘誤鳴的紀錄，

就能得到警方全力的回應，而有多次警鐘誤鳴記錄會被降至最低等級，並不會得到警方的任何

回應。

為回應香港地區客戶對高度防盜的獨特需要，在2004年怡和機器運用世界最先進的監控和防盜

技術設立了警報監控中心(Signal Monitoring Centre)。

對客戶而言，警報監控中心直接針對警報誤鳴的問題，確保客戶在真正的事故中取得警方的全

力回應。當客戶的企業觸發了警報後，警報監控中心可偵測到觸發警報的每一個感測器，評估

感測器的位置，確定觸發的時間地點。與此同時，警報監控中心的先進監控技術會即時分析及

評估實際情況，以協助怡和機器的專業監控員辨認警報的真偽。警報監控中心能夠在任何時候

從任何一個系統上偵測到250多個獨立警報感測器的位置，是香港最強勁的監控中心。

「當樓宇管理系統（BMS）連接至警報監控中心時，個別警報訊號識別是非常重要的，」警報監

控中心營運經理何智明先生表示，「一棟樓宇有這麼多個區域，為減少調查案件的時間，操作

人員能夠把接收到訊號的地點精確地通知樓宇主管是非常重要的。」此外，警報監控中心還能

In the wake of the tsunami disaster in December 2004, JEC Singapore was invited by an E&M consultant to study the feasibility of restoring a badly damaged five star holiday resort along Patong beach on the island of Phuket in Thailand. The most

pressing damage to the resort’s infrastructure involved the

critical Heat, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) and electrical equipment that supported the entire resort’s air-conditioning system.

Without air-conditioning in the humid weather of Thailand, not only was the resort not fit for occupation, but also the art and architecture of the lavishly appointed resort would be ru-ined within months, adding to the already extensive physical damage and financial loss.

To quickly remedy the situation, the resort summoned a team of experts including a claim consultant (Jardine Lloyd Thompson Asia), an E&M consultant (Unipac Consulting Engineers) and valuators to assess damage and make a prompt decision on the course of action.

JEC Singapore was subsequently invited by Unipac Consult-ing Engineers (a Singapore based E&M consultant) to as-sess the damage and provide a quick and effective solution. Together with alliance partners, JEC Singapore responded by securing two chillers, shipping them to Phuket, and then installing, testing, and commissioning them within 30 days.

The resort owners were so impressed by JEC’s efficiency and effort to meet the deadlines that they invited JEC back to Phuket to complete the next phase of restoration work comprising high voltage and low voltage packages, pumps, generator sets and cooling towers. After receiving the techni-cal briefs, JEC engineers together with Unipac Consulting Engineers developed the best possible solution to exceed the customer’s expectations and meet the tight, four-month completion schedule with contractual penalties for delay.

This time, in order to meet the deadline, and fulfill the contract, JEC performed a minor miracle on behalf of the customer by securing swift delivery of generator sets. When

conventionally ordered, the lead-time for delivery of large generator sets is usually eight months. Utilising the JEC net-work, JEC Singapore sent out a call for assistance that was answered by JEC Hong Kong who sourced timely generator set solutions from their vast network of suppliers.

The JEC team once again proved that through professional service, meeting deadlines, teamwork, and understanding the customer’s complete needs, JEC can deliver solutions that address any problem in any market we serve.

Once completed, the Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand will be one of Asia’s largest luxury retail and entertainment complexes. Siam Paragon, a joint venture between Siam Pi-wat and The Mall Group, is located on Rama I Road, one of Bangkok’s most famous shopping streets, and the complex is situated on 52-rai (21 acres), 32 of which are earmarked for retail space and 20 for first class hotel and luxury serviced apartments.

Siam Paragon joins a long list of high-end shopping centres along Rama I and Phloenchit Roads in the heart of Bangkok, including the Mahboonkrong Center, Siam Square, Siam Dis-covery Center, Siam Center, World Trade Center, Gaysorn Plaza, Central Chidlom and Erawan Bangkok. In designing Siam Paragon, developers of the ambitious project have cre-ated Thailand’s biggest architecture contract involving more than 100 local and overseas architects and designers.

For Siam Paragon, JEC’s JMTL M&E Contracting are supply-ing and installing all the air-conditioning, ventilation systems, sanitary and fire protection systems in structures totalling an area of 45,000 square meters (encompassing eight stories and a basement). The low-rise portion of the Siam Paragon shopping centre, with retailing and parking space totalling 300,000 square meters, is scheduled to open at the end of 2005.

of sand, dirt and solids can significantly increase mainte-

nance and energy costs, water consumption and the use of

I have always been fascinated by radio and space, and I

first became interested in amateur radio by listening to an

old short-wave receiver. I made my first radio, a germanium

diode crystal receiver at age thirteen, constructing wire

antennas from pieces of scrap wire and putting them up

everywhere, much like I do today.

Amateur radio, also known as “ham” radio, is a very inter-

esting and rewarding hobby. Not only do you get to learn

about electricity, electronics, antennas and Morse code, but

best of all, you get to communicate with radio operators from

all around the world. Through amateur radio, I’ve made a

lot of new friends and learned a lot about new and diverse

cultures. You never know who or what you will run into when

communicating with amateur radio, but over the years I have

spoken with a lot of retirees, teachers and students, engi-

neers and scientists, doctors, mechanics and technicians,

and young people.

In 1982, I passed the radio amateur examination and be-

came an official amateur radio operator. Since then, I have

been awarded several certificates recognising my achieve-

ments in radio and contacted 154 countries, which is the

record in Hong Kong. Since 1985, I have also been quite

active using amateur satelite communication.

Other ham radio activities include donating my time to radio

support services with other local amateur radio societies.

Some of the interesting events that we have supported over

the years include the Oxfam Trailwalker and the Raleigh

International Mountain Marathon.

我一直對無線電和太空著迷。最初對業餘無線電感興趣是源於

收聽一部舊式的短波接收機。13歲那年我把廢棄的電線撿來

做成天線到處移動，自己動手製作了第一部無線電，是一部鍺

二極體晶體接收機，與我今天所幹的非常相似。

業餘無線電，也就是常說的「火腿族」，是有益又有趣的業餘

嗜好。你不僅能學習有關電流、電子、天線和摩斯密碼的知

識。更最重要的是，你可以和世界各地的無線電操作人員互相

通訊。借助業餘無線電，我結識了很多朋友，了解到很多不同

地區的文化。用業餘無線電通訊時，你從不能預料將會遇上誰

或遇到什麼事情。多年以來，和我通過話的包括退休人仕、

教師、學生、工程師、科學家、醫生、機械員、技術員及年

輕人等。

在1982年，我通過了業餘無線電考試，成為一名正式的業餘

無線電操作員。我已成功和154個國家聯絡過，是一個香港紀

錄。我曾榮獲多份證書以表彰我在無線電方面的成就。而自

1985年起，我亦積極參與使用業餘衛星通訊。

其他業餘無線電活動，包括貢獻私人時間與其他本地業餘無線

電團體提供無線電支援服務。多年來我們支持過的活動包括樂

施毅行者和國際雷利山頭霸王越野馬拉松。

Last year, while working on a customer’s site, a JEC supervisor was badly burned by an acci-dental blast from an overhead fuse switch. After two months of prescribed rest, the supervisor was anxious to return to work, but his injuries had not fully healed enough for him to return to work and perform his normal job duties.

In order to help the supervisor return to work, he was enrolled in a “Worker Injury Risk Man-agement” programme (WIRM) that works together with injured employees and companies to find mutually beneficial situations that can aid the employee’s healthy return to the workplace. The WIRM programme helped the supervisor return to his normal duties by initially recom-mending simple modifications to the supervisor’s job function (report writing and quotation preparation) that enabled him to remain in an air-conditioned office during the workday. The supervisor also received valuable counselling and advice from the rehabilitation consultants. That, combined with the concerns and support from his colleagues, helped him progress steadily through the difficult rehabilitation process.

Compared to prior conventional methods of rehabilitation, the implementation of the WIRM programme has dramatically improved the return-to-work rate for injured employees at JEC. It has been proven that much of our sense of self-worth and identity comes from our jobs and our ability to be productive. When that ability is taken away, injured employees may experience depression and fear in addition to physical pain. Therefore, a proactive WIRM programme and a rehabilitation consultant that reintroduces the employee to work as soon as possible is by far the most productive solution for both employee and employer.

By committing to the establishment of a formal WIRM programme across the company, JEC has reduced workers’ compensation costs, avoided the costs of hiring and training replace-ment workers, reduced fraud and most importantly, promoted employee morale. After viewing the results, we firmly believe that a well-planned and executed rehabilitation programme can bring about a win-win-win situation for our injured employees, our insurance companies and JEC.

With an aim to share JEC’s valuable experiences on this issue and gain recognition from our customers, suppliers, shareholders and peers, we recently submitted an application to The Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Awards to compete for The Hong Kong Federa-tion of Insurers Award for Excellence in OSH. Our application stood out from the rest of the submissions and the judges awarded us a Gold Medal in the category.

去年，一名怡和機器監督在客戶工地工作時，一吊櫃的開關掣爆炸，監督不幸被嚴重燒傷。經

過兩個月的病假休息後，監督急切地期待重返工作，但由於傷勢未完全康復，他還是不能執行

日常的工作。

為有助監督返回工作崗位，他參加了「僱員工傷風險管理計劃」，一個協助受傷員工與公司共

同尋找互惠互利的方法，幫助員工安全，健康地重返工作崗位。僱員工傷風險管理計劃最初建

議對這名監督的工作，作幾項簡單的調動(編寫報告和預備報價單)，讓他日間可在冷氣辦公室內

工作，慢慢幫助他返回日常工作崗位。加上職業治療師給予監督寶貴的輔導和意見，以及同事

的關心及支持，使他續步渡過艱辛的康復期。

和以前的復康計劃相比，實施僱員工傷風險管理計劃使怡和機器的受傷員工重返工作崗位的速

度和機會大增。資料證明，自我價值與認同感很大部份來自於我們的工作能力。當失去這能力

時，受傷的員工承受肉體痛苦之餘，還有機會變得意志消沉和充滿恐懼。所以，積極的僱員工

傷風險管理計劃助員工儘快尋求職業治療師的協助和重投工作崗位，是現今對於員工和僱主雙

方最有利的解決方法。

通過承諾在公司上下建立正式的僱員工傷風險管理計劃，怡和機器減省了員工受傷的補償費用

並減省聘請和培訓替工的開支，避免了欺詐行為亦提升員工士氣。回顧這些成果，我們堅信，

一個良好規劃與執行的復康計劃可給受傷的員工、保險公司及怡和機器帶來三贏局面。

為分享怡和機器在此方面寶貴的經驗及從客戶、供應商、股東和同行間所獲取的認同，我們最

近參加了「香港職業安全健康大獎」，競逐 「香港保險業聯會職安健大獎」，並在眾多參賽公

司中脫穎而出，取得「金獎」。

The recent Sales Management System (SMS) Workshop held in Hong Kong helped kick-off a key JEC initiative to provide new training and development for the sales team to systematically meet and exceed the expectations of every customer, and to create loyal, satisfied customers who has confidence in working with JEC employees and interacting with our organisation.

Prior to the workshop, JEC benchmarked the current sales processes against market leaders across industries so that the team would have working examples of best practices that could increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the current sales processes. Best practices included eliminating redundant customer activities, creating new levels of service efficiency, establishing single points of contact across busi-nesses for customers, and sharing customer data from differ-ent sources to provide successful solutions to customers.

Mr James Graham, CEO of JEC, opened the workshop by encouraging the team to strive for greater focus on custom-ers, “We expect that you will become the experts on our customers and that you begin today by building a customer-centric organisation for the future. It is vital to our efforts that we know our customers needs as well as they do, and that we build relationships where we can repeatedly deliver on our strengths – JEC’s world-class range of solutions, prod-ucts and services.”

During the day, the sales team was divided into small groups to facilitate discussion and develop recommendations on future sales processes. The discussions focused on the role of a sales leader, creating effective sales planning and moni-toring processes, and the development and motivation of a sales team. In addition to the group discussions and recom-mendations, the team also engaged in some team building activities to stimulate additional creative thoughts regarding the customer and the sales process.

The workshop was a success on many levels, and as one participant commented, “We learned a lot by sharing our current sales processes with other departments and listen-ing to how others operate differently in the market. We have successfully simplified the way several customers deal with

當天，銷售隊伍分成幾個小組展開討論，對未來的銷售程序提

出建議。討論的話題集中在銷售領袖的角色，設計有效的銷售

策略及監管程序，發展銷售隊伍與銷售動力。另外，銷售隊伍

還進行了幾項鞏固團隊精神的活動，刺激了他們對客戶和銷售

程序更多創新的想法。

工作坊在多方面獲得正面評價，正如一名參加者認為，「通過
