New Funding Opportunities

Grants to Support Disadvantaged Children (UK)

Not for profit organisations that are working with children and young people can apply for grants of up to £10,000 per year for up to 3 years.

Grants are given to support children and young people aged 18 years and under experiencing disadvantage through:

1. Illness, distress, abuse or neglect.2. Any kind of disability.3. Behavioural or psychological difficulties.4. Living in poverty or situations of deprivation.

The funding is available to:

Charitable incorporated organisations and Scottish charitable incorporated organisations; Community interest companies (CIC) limited by guarantee; Companies limited by guarantee with a clause in their governing document preventing

distribution of profit (including social enterprises); Housing associations; Industrial and provident community benefit societies; Registered charities; Religious institutions; Special schools - These are provisions for children with learning difficulties or disabilities

which cannot be met within a mainstream setting

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fund has temporarily broadened the types of applications it accepts. BBC Children in Need is currently offering funding that can be used more flexibly than usual. This can include:

Project delivery (Including staffing and salary costs) Creative solutions to deliver much needed services Organisational costs to support stability and adaptation. (Including the day-to-day running

costs of an organisation as opposed to specific project costs)

The closing date for applications is 11.30 am on the 6th October 2021.

Funding to Improve the Lives of Vulnerable Young People (UK)

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to support the needs of vulnerable children and young people who have experienced a recent crisis or change in life that has had a significant impact on their social and emotional wellbeing and their education.

The funding is being made available through the Buttle UK's Chances for Children Grants. Support might include items and activities to support learning and development such as laptops, books, wi-fi, educational toys, tuition, etc; clothing and school uniforms; and social, sporting and leisure activities; and items for children/young people’s bedrooms.

Buttle UK will only accept applications from frontline professionals (from a registered charity, housing association or public sector organisation):

who are working directly with the children/young persons ideally, have carried out at least one home visit and have made a full assessment of the children’s or young person’s needs

Applications can be made at any time.

Cure Parkinson's Trust Grant (UK)

Commercial organisations, appropriately qualified scientists or clinicians based in an accredited university or hospital in any country worldwide can now apply for funding for laboratory or clinical research projects. Projects should have the potential to advance knowledge that might lead to a cure for Parkinson’s disease or that represent a substantial advance in treatment.

The Cure Parkinson’s Trust has a particular interest in projects that show the potential to delay, slow, stop reverse or prevent the progression of Parkinson’s disease. There are no specific limits to the amount of funding available but previous awards have been between £50,000 and £250,000 with a duration of 1-3 years.

Applications are considered four times a year, the next deadline for applications is the 1st October 2021.

Community Ownership Fund is Now Accepting Applications (UK)

The UK government has announced that Round 2 of the new £150 million Community Ownership Fund is due to re-open for applications in December 2021. The fund is part of the UK Government’s strategy to build back better from the pandemic and to foster a sense of community and will make grants to help communities across the UK take ownership of local facilities, community assets and amenities such as:

sporting and leisure facilities cinemas and theatres music venues museums galleries parks pubs post office buildings shops

In the first bidding round matched capital grants of up to £250,000 were available for projects.

Further details and an updated prospectus and guidance notes for round 2 will be published in the autumn.

Applications Re-Open for the Co-op Community Fridge Fund (UK)

The Hubbub Foundation, in partnership with the Co-op, has re-opened the Co-op Community Fridge Fund to build on their existing network of Community Fridges around the UK.

Grants of £4,000 are available to support an additional one hundred not-for-profit organisations to establish new Community Fridge projects and help redistribute surplus fresh food within deprived communities.

Donations are provided by local food businesses, producers, households and gardens, saving food from going to waste and bringing people together. Hubbub will also provide support, guidance and resources to help organisations establish their Community Fridge.

Applications from: Cornwall, Lincolnshire, Northumberland, Cumbria, Shropshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Essex, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, North Yorkshire, Aberdeenshire, Belfast, Dumfries and Galloway, Perth and Kinross will be accepted until 9am, 20th September 2021.

Tesco Community Grants (UK)

The Tesco Bags of Help Programme has been relaunched as the Tesco Community Grants programme to support local good causes that focus on helping children and families across the UK.

Registered charities, voluntary and community organisations, schools, parish/town councils and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants of £500, £1,000 or £1,500. Three projects from each local area will be shortlisted to go to the public vote by Tesco customers every three months, with grants awarded depending on the number of votes their project receives.

Examples of eligible applications with a focus on supporting children and families could be;

a local school needing food for a children’s breakfast club, a voluntary organisation working with families to run holiday clubs, a charity supporting young people with specialist advice to manage mental health, a brownie or scout group needing new tents, or a youth sports club needing new equipment, a family advice centre wanting to recruit more volunteers, or a local friends of a park group wanting to develop a new toddler area.

The fund will be administered by Groundwork and applications can be made at any time.

Holiday Grants for Disadvantaged and Disabled Children (UK)

Schools, youth groups, not for profit organisations and charities can apply for grants of £500 to £2,500 to support recreational trips or holidays within the UK for groups of disabled or disadvantaged children (aged 13 or under).

Priority will be given to applications coming from the 20% most deprived areas in the UK. Funded by the Henry Smith Charity, grants can cover up to two-thirds of the cost of a holiday or trip lasting one to seven days. In this round, trips must be taken before the end of August 2019. For more details and to apply, complete the eligibility quiz on the website and submit the application form online at least 6 weeks before the trip is due to take place.

Applications will be accepted until the 13th September 2021, for day trips taking place until the 31st October 2021. Applications must be made at least six weeks before the trip or holiday is due to take place.

Previous visits supported include:

All Saints Catholic Primary School which received a grant of £1,500 towards a two-night trip to Wales for a group of disadvantaged children from Merseyside;

Bridgewater School which received a grant of £1,900 towards an overnight trip to London for a group of disadvantaged children from Newcastle; and

6th St Helens (Parr) Scout Group received a grant of £1,100 towards a two-night trip to an activity centre in Lancashire for a group of children from a disadvantaged area of Merseyside.

Funding for Rural Community and Education Projects (UK)

The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, which supports charities in the UK working in agriculture, rural development and insurance has announced that the next closing date for applications is the 29th October 2021. The Trustees are particularly interested in initiatives in young people's education in rural areas and the relief of poverty within rural areas.

Trustees are particularly interested in funding larger initiatives, which would significantly impact the rural community.

Grants of between £1,000 and £50,000 are available. The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust has donated almost £3m to fund education and social welfare projects in towns and villages across the UK in the last ten years.

The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust also provides small grants of up to £1,000 through the NFU Mutual's Community Giving Fund which supports worthwhile community events, charities, schools and community group activities that are local to their operations. In 2019, it helped 88 community groups and charities across the UK.

Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust - Rights and Justice (UK)

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) makes grants to a range of organisations including registered, excepted or exempt charities based in the UK for work that seeks to make positive change across the UK as a whole, or across one or more of its member countries - England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

The Funding priorities for the Rights and Justice theme are:

1. Protection and promotion of human rights and their enforcement in the UK2. Promoting rights and justice for minorities who face the most severe forms of racism3. Promotion of rights and justice for refugees and other migrants by identifying and tackling

structures and systems that may deny them their rights.4. Responding to the dual harms of Covid-19 and systemic racism.

Whilst the focus is to support national advocacy and campaigning, JRCT is open to applications which aim to effect change at local and regional levels of policy-making, provided the applicant can demonstrate the wider significance of the work.

JRCT places an emphasis on supporting those who have direct experience of racism and oppression.

Applicants are encouraged to apply for a grant for unrestricted or core support, although support for specific programme or project funding is also available.

The deadline to register is the 12th November 2021 and the deadline to apply is 5pm on the 29th November 2021.

School Grants to Promote Physics (UK)

The Institute of Physics has announced that UK schools, colleges or home school groups can apply for grants of up to £600 for small-scale projects or events linked to the teaching or promotion of physics and engineering to pupils aged 5 - 19. Grants can support a wide range of projects such as school-based science weeks, extracurricular activities, science clubs, careers event or a visit from a working physicist or engineer.

Grants may be used for the following purposes: materials/resources; transport; marketing and publicity; other purposes deemed appropriate by the judges; and supply cover (in certain circumstances).

The Institute of Physics is interested in proposals that look at:

particle physics astronomy space and nuclear physics energy transport information and communications design and promotion built environment.

Previous projects to receive funding include:

Ampleforth College for a visit to Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory. St John’s High School for a Practical Rocketry workshop to design a water-propelled rocket.

The next closing date for applications is the 1st November 2021 (for projects taking place in the following spring term).

Grants of up to £5,000 Available to Not-For-Profit Theatres to Carry Out Essential Works (UK)

The Theatres Trust has launched a £100,000 small grants programme for not-for-profit theatres across the UK to carry out essential works, particularly improvements to buildings that protect theatre use and remove barriers to participation and attendance.

The Small Grants Programme, supported by The Linbury Trust, will provide grants of up to £5,000 to support small projects that make a big impact to a theatre's resilience, sustainability or accessibility.

To be eligible to apply to the scheme, applicants must demonstrate that they:

own or manage theatres with titles or signed leases of more than 5 years on buildings in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

run a year-round programme of live performance, of no less than 30 performances a year have a bona fide UK charitable or not-for-profit legal structure and be able to provide certified

or audited accounts for at least two years

Eligible projects include small capital works, the installation of key plant and machinery and works that make theatre buildings digital-ready. Applications are also welcome for projects that help theatres reopen as Covid-secure.

The deadline for applications in this round is 5pm on the 8th November 2021.

Grants of £500 to Encourage More People to Try BMX (UK)

To celebrate the easing of lockdown restrictions and the success of Team GB BMX at the Olympics, Access Sport is offering BMX bike clubs grants of £500 to run open days that enable thousands of beginners to try out BMX across the UK.

Funding will give clubs the opportunity to try to remove barriers to inclusion by opening their tracks up to the public or promoting the club to a new audience, particularly in deprived areas.

Access Sport are also offering grants of £500 to inspire more girls to get involved. This funding would go towards:

women and girls’ inclusion training; the delivery of girls only sessions or female friendly sessions; or training for female coaches, volunteers and young leaders.

Grants to Help New, Innovative Visual Arts Projects (UK)

The Elephant Trust has announced that the next deadline for applications is the 10th October 2021. The Trust offers grants to artists and for new, innovative visual arts projects. It aims to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when confronted by lack of funds.

The Trust supports projects that develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts. Priority is given to artists and small organisations and galleries making or producing new work or exhibitions.

The Trust normally awards grants of up to £2,000, but larger grants of up to £5,000 may be considered.

Funding for Marine Conservation Projects (UK)

Marine conservation charities and not for profit organisations (including schools) based and working in the UK can apply for grants of up to £1,200 towards projects and research that address the root causes of marine conservation threats and challenges in the UK, and increase the number of people taking action for marine conservation.

The funding, which is being made available through the Sea-Changers Main Grants programme, seeks to support creative and innovative approaches which have lasting benefits and outcomes. Sea-Changers is particularly interested in grassroots projects which galvanise community action and in projects which increase the number of people taking action for marine conservation.

The deadline for applications is the 31st September 2021.

Grants to Promote the Teaching of Greek (UK)

The Hellenic Society Schools Sub-Committee makes grants to schools to assist projects concerned with the teaching of Greek or Greek civilization.

Typically, grants are made for:

The development of new courses in Greek Books & other teaching materials Classics days or conferences Greek plays by schools Summer schools for school pupils

Applications from schools planning to start courses in Greek are especially welcome.

Applications on behalf of individual pupils or teachers are not normally considered, but a grant may be made to an institution for use as bursaries to individuals at the discretion of that institution. Most grants are in the range £100-£500, but larger awards are occasionally made.

Magic Little Grants (England, Scotland and Wales)

Online fundraising platform Localgiving, together with the Postcode Community Trust have announced that this year’s Magic Little Grants grants programme has re-opened for applications. Small charities. community groups, school and groups connected to schools can apply for grants of up to £500 to launch or strengthen their services.

this year funding can go towards any of the below projects:

Improving mental wellbeing Enabling community participation in the arts Preventing or reducing the impact of poverty Supporting marginalised groups and promoting equality Improving biodiversity and green spaces Enabling participation in physical activity Responding to the climate emergency and promoting sustainability Increasing community access to outdoor space

To be eligible applicant organisations will need to have an annual income of below £250,000.

As well as receiving a Magic Little Grant, successful organisations that are new to Localgiving will also be given a free annual membership with Localgiving worth £80+VAT. This membership gives them access to all of Localgiving’s wider online fundraising services, such as regular fundraising campaigns and training.

The closing date for applications is the 31st October 2021.

Previous projects funded include:

Flamingo Chicks, who received a grant to provide sensory kits for disabled children to attend dance classes.

Featherstone Rovers Foundation, who received a grant to deliver a range of activities to encourage more young people to try Rugby League.

Happy Wanderers Ambulance Organisation who received a grant to provide free transport for older people and wheelchair users to access local physical activities.

Greggs Foundation Breakfast Club Grants (England, Scotland & Wales)

The Greggs Foundation currently supports over 127 breakfast clubs throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Schools that are interested in applying for funding to open a breakfast club at their school must be able to show that at least 40% of pupils qualify for free school meals and that the school serves a disadvantaged community. School should able to attract adult volunteers to help run the scheme and attendance at the club must be free for all pupils.

The Foundation uses the grants to support breakfast clubs through an initial start up grant for equipment such as chest freezers to store food items or toys and activities for the club. Greggs Foundation also makes a payment each term towards other food items and Greggs plc donates bread from the nearest shop.

Funding to Tackle the Disproportionate Impact of Covid-19 on BAME Communities (England)

Voice4Change England has launched a second round of their Covid-19 Partnership Fund to help small BAME-led charities, voluntary and community groups, and social enterprises tackle the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in England.

The fund will provide organisations with grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 to deal with emerging issues in the community, as a result of the continuing threat of coronavirus, the need for self-isolation, and potential for further exacerbation of loneliness and isolation.

The programme is designed for smaller BAME community groups with an annual income of less than £200,00 and can include groups catering for white minority communities other than white British e.g. Polish, Lithuanian etc., as well as communities that are Black, Asian, Chinese, African and Middle Eastern etc.

Groups can apply for help with current costs to deliver Covid-19 services, including mental health and wellbeing services and sports activities.

New £400,000 e-Cargo Bike Fund Launched (England)

A new £400,000 funding round has been launched by the Department for Transport and Energy Saving Trust for the purchase of ecargo bikes, to support small businesses switching to a sustainable transport solution.

The eCargo Bike Grant Fund will give businesses in England an opportunity to introduce e-cargo bikes into their everyday transport operations and will cover up to 40% of the total cost, with a maximum of £2,500 for two-wheel models and £4,500 for three-wheel models.

Organisations can apply for funding for up to five bikes, with larger applications considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applications may include more than one organisation.

The closing date for applications is the 14th December 2021.

The £3 million Community Shares Booster programme has re-opened for applications.

Funded in partnership by Power to Change and the Architectural Heritage Fund, the programme provides existing community businesses that are either planning to make or have recently launched community shares offers with match funding of up to £100,000.

Development grants of up to £10,000 are also available to help societies get investment ready and meet standards of good practice. Additional business development support will also be provided.

Funding to Develop Indoor Tennis Facilities (Scotland)

Sportscotland will be investing a total of £15 million over the next 10 years to develop indoor tennis centres in Scotland. The Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis Fund is being delivered through a partnership between Tennis Scotland, sportscotland and the LTA.

The programme aims to work with organisations that are committed to developing indoor tennis facilities, and to ensuring that more people have the opportunity to enjoy the sport, all year round – whether they are a social player or a future champion.

Aiming to establish a network of regionally based indoor tennis centres across Scotland, funding will initially be focused on six priority areas: Dumfries & Galloway; Dundee; Edinburgh; Glasgow; Highland and the Scottish Borders. Projects outside these areas may still be considered.

Priority will initially be given to projects which involve a minimum of 3 indoor courts with funding of up to 66% project costs is available up to a maximum of £250,000 per court. The fund will be delivered through a series of funding rounds each year.

Grant Programme to Empower Young People to Create a More Resilient & Mentally Healthy Future (Wales)

The National Lottery Community Fund has launched a new programme to improve Young People’s mental health and resilience, with a focus on collaborative, innovative youth work where the young people being affected are at the forefront of decision making.

The Mind Our Future grant programme will award a share of £10 million in grant funding to up to ten third sector and public sector organisations in Wales working in partnerships for initiatives that will empower young people to create a more resilient and mentally healthy future. Partnerships must consist of not-for profit and public sector organisations such as a local authority, school or police force, etc.

This might involve working with a specific age range, young people who are in a specific location, or those who share a specific characteristic such as sexual orientation, ethnic background, or experience of the care system.

There is no maximum grant amount. The deadline for applications is the 29th November 2021.

Capital Grant Programme for Museums, Archives & Libraries Opens to Applications (Wales)

The Welsh Government’s 2022 to 2023 Transformation Capital Grant Programme for museums, libraries and archives is now open for expressions of interest.

Two bands of funding are available to enable organisations to transform service delivery to offer sustainable, modern, and attractive facilities and services.

Band A awards grants of up to £150,000 to encourage organisations to improve the internal and external appearance and environment, quality of collections care, and visitor experience, and improve long term sustainability.

Band B awards grants of up to £300,000 for larger, strategic projects or the development of inter-authority or ‘regional’ services. Match funding of at least 10% is required.

Funding of Up to £10,000 Available to Tackle Social Deprivation (North East)

Registered charities exempted or excepted organisations can now apply for up to £10,000 of funding for core costs and charitable activities that benefit the residents of Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, County Durham and Teesside. Priority will be given to projects that:

ease social deprivation

and/or

enrich the fabric of the local community and the quality of life of individuals within that community.

The funding is being made available from the 1989 Willan Charitable Trust which, with the help of the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, distributes up to £500,000 each year. The Trustees prefer to prioritise projects for which the funding will represent a significant contribution to the delivery of the project.

Examples of projects that the 1989 Willan Charitable Trust will fund include:

Projects that meet the needs of communities experiencing high levels of deprivation. Self-help initiatives that improve local quality of life. Services for young people that address educational needs or offer diversion from crime and

anti-social behaviour. Projects assisting local communities affected by crime and anti-social behaviour Art projects that help tackle deprivation or improve local quality of life. The work of youth organisations and, in particular, the Sea Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Boys’

Brigades and other uniformed organisations. Grants here will not generally exceed £1,500. Projects that draw on the region’s rich maritime tradition to deliver improvements in local

quality of life or address deprivation. Gap year voluntary work through Project Trust. Grants are limited to a maximum of £500

towards expenses in undertaking a voluntary placement. Applicants must normally reside in the North East region.
