But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that’s true strength” I would like to start by expressing my sincere gratitude to all the staff of Gunther Village for their support, strength, and to be honest, endurance, during and after the January floods. We had many staff adversely effected by the floods, countless stranded, others had partners who had lost employment and many had either their homes or family member’s homes inundated with water. Their ability to dust themselves off and get back on their feet has been truly inspirational. Several staff still arrived to work even when they had lost everything, one member stating to me ‘what can I do, sitting and watching it happen isn’t going to change it, our residents need us here’. I often divert from mentioning any particular people when expressing gratitude, as success is never achieved by merely a few, but achieved by all members of the team holding an integral part of the outcome. In the hope of not offending, I must take this moment to recognise and personally express my sincere grati- tude to the following people. Jason Thompson (catering manager) - who worked tirelessly supporting me to implement the facility’s disaster management plan, whilst still managing to prepare and deliver meals to our residents; Charla Spelta, Julie Knapton, Rose Bernie, Kristy Drayton, Wendy Markwell, Brenda Walker, Kerry Cutler, Janet Coleman, Divena Grealish, Tersita Peatey, Angela Hunsley, Alison Cafe, Peggy O’Sullivan, Conny Webb, Anita Churchward, Thanom Mann and Jamelah Valera who all worked tirelessly during the floods. And finally Mayor Don Waugh and the entire Local Disaster Management team— I would like to praise the efforts of all the people involved including SES, Fire department, Police and volunteers for their support. I would like to finish by wishing you all a safe and enjoyable easter. Kind regards Chantele Nelson Gunther Village Issue 43 February / March 2013 www.cubdha.org.au

Comments, Compliments & ConcernsAs part of our commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement, we genuinely value your ideas and suggestions. Whether youhave a concern you would like to raise, make a suggestion that may improve services or simply acknowledge the good thingswe do, we encourage you to tell us. I am very aware that due to the fact that we promote a culture of open and transparentcommunication, many suggestions or issues raised, are done so verbally. However, it is important that we have options and thatthere is a system that enables people to put something forward anonymously, should they wish to do so. (keeping in mind thatthis will prohibit feedback at a personal level)
