Citizenship Focus The 8th annual 4-H Citizenship North Carolina
Focus will be held June 11-13, 2012, in Raleigh at
the Sheraton Downtown. It is a dynamic learning
experience focused on civic engagement and
understanding government. The purpose of
Citizenship Focus is to inspire engaged
citizenship and continued volunteerism among
youth. Participants are selected by an application
process. Email [email protected] for
application. Transportation provided from the
Pender County Extension Office in Burgaw, NC.
Dates: June 11-13
Age: 14-18 year olds (as of Jan. 1, 2012)
Time: Three days
Cost: $150.00
Applications due by April 16, 2012.
Mad Scientists Ever wonder how bubbles are made? How about
where water comes from? Discover the answers to
these questions and more as you explore the
wonders of water and bubbles just like a
scientist! Please wear play clothes that can get
dirty.
Dates: June 12-13
Age: 5-8 year olds
Time: 1:00-4:30pm
Cost: $15
Wildlife Garden Camp Love getting dirty and learning about how plants
grow? Join us for this engaging, one-of-a-kind
experience where each week you’ll learn
something new and fascinating about wildlife
gardening. Discover how soil, plants, animals,
and habitats are all interdependent. This camp
meets for eight (8) weeks at the
Arboretum with one offsite class at
Halyburton Park. Space is limited
to eight youth.
Dates: Mondays June 11-July 30th
Age: 9-12 year olds
Time: 9:30am-11:30am
Cost: $40
Citizenship Academy During this class, participants will learn about
being a good citizen and how local government
works. Participants should be prepared to voice
their opinions about current youth issues and
how they can be addressed. Cost includes
transportation, lunch, snacks, materials and
presenters. Limited space!

4-H Presentation Competition
Take part in the Southeast District 4-H
presentation competition at District Activity
Day. Youth will give a 5-12 minute illustrated
talk or demonstration on any topic of interest;
competing for a spot in the state 4-H competition
at NC 4-H Congress on July 16. Winners may
receive stipends to attend Congress. For more

Light It Up! Sr. Surf Camp Join us for surf lessons at Topsail Beach with
instructors from Odysea Surf School!
Participants will receive two hours of surf
instruction each day. Participants must be able
to swim in the ocean. Please bring sunscreen
and a towel. Water and snacks will be provided.

ESI : Entrepreneurship
Investigation Come catch the entrepreneurship spirit with
us as we “discover the e-scene” and learn how
you might one day turn your talents into a
profitable occupation. ESI campers will hear
from a number of local business owners about
the ins and outs of running a business,
discover what it means to be an entrepreneur
and learn about qualities entrepreneurs must
possess to achieve success. Lunch and snacks
will be provided.
Dates: June 25-28
Age: 12-18 year olds
Time: 9am-3pm

North Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T State University, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and local governments cooperating.
Health Rocks! Dealing with peer pressure is a part of life. While
no one is immune to it, you can take part in
learning about how to use tools to make healthy
choices. Learn how eating healthy and staying
active are so important to your health. This camp
is taught by our county TRY-IT Team (Teens
Reaching Youth Through Innovative Teams) and
W.O.W. (Wizards of Workout) 4-H Club. Lunch
will be served on the 19th and 21st.

Mission: Nutrition Explore your way to good health with food and
play. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Educa-
tion Program’s Professor Popcorn leads a 3 day
expedition of eating smart and moving more.
Cost covers preparation of a healthy snack each
day. Wear comfy exploring shoes and join the
journey! Priority given to youth who qualify for
free or reduced lunch.
Dates: July 17-19
Age: Rising 5th & 6th graders
Time: 8am-11:00am
Cost: $5 Acres of Adventures
Discover the world of agriculture and life science
through participating in a series of exciting,
hands-on activities. You’ll have to think like a
farmer to complete some of the challenges you
will be given.
Dates: July 23 & 25
Age: 9-12 year olds
Time: 1:00pm-5:00pm

Me & My World In 4-H we pledge our Head, Heart, Hands, &
Health to our club, community, country, and our
world. Come discover just how and why we do
this by learning all about building character,
valuing family, and celebrating other cultures
and diversity. We will be busy with fun crafts,
exciting games, character building activities,
and more.
Dates: July 9-10

North Carolina 4-H Congress
Come join us at 4-H Congress, the highlight of the
4-H year! Teens from all over North Carolina will
participate in educational experiences such as
speakers, discussion groups and workshops. 4-H
Congress provides an opportunity to develop and
exercise leadership skills through serving on
committees and participating in various programs.
You’ll stay on campus at NCSU in Raleigh, NC.
Dates: July 16-19

your community & your world. Members of the
4-H Teen Council will take you on a journey to
discover fun ways to be green and keep our
world healthy and beautiful.

Betsy Jeff Penn 4-H Camp
Beginning with a cookout on Sunday afternoon, and
culminating with fond farewells and hugs on Friday
morning, a week of camp can be the highlight of a
child's summer. Campers will have the opportunity
to be involved in several activities such as canoeing,
wall climbing, horseback riding, crafts, swimming,
and archery, just to name a few. Traditional
campers are ages 8-12, while Adventurers are 12-14
and Trekkers are 13-14. A $50 non-refundable
deposit is due by April 30th to reserve your child’s
spot. However, there are very limited spots
available so don’t wait! The remaining balance of
$340 (or $360 for Trekkers) is due by July 2nd.
Families may apply for a $100 camp scholarship by
April 16th. Email [email protected] for
application.

If we are scheduled to take a field trip and they do NOT arrive on time they will
be left! SORRY, NO REFUNDS.
Please dress your child appropriately according to the weather forecast and the
activity in which they are participating. Don’t forget bug spray or sun block when
needed! Snacks and water will be provided for all camps.

registered for a camp until fees are paid.
