person of administrative council, church school superintendent, president of United Methodist Men, president

ADVENT STUDY
Thee Seekers Sunday school class will begin an Advent Study on Sunday, November 9th at 9:30 am The
title is Not A Silent Night by Adam Hamilton. We will be viewing videos and exploring Christmas events
through the eyes of Mary. The study begins with years just before Mary’s death and work backward to the
announcement of Jesus’ birth. Chapter include: Beginning with the End; The Piercing of Mary’s Soul;
Amazed, Astounded and Astonished; Mary, Full of Grace; It Was Not a Silent Night.
“As Mary learned, God doesn’t promise a perfect, peaceful life or a silent, holy night. She was blessed, God-
favored, and grace filled, yet her troubles did not end. That’s how life was for Mary, and that is how life is for
us. Life doesn’t go according to our plans. Sometimes it’s hard and painful and scary. Yet, in the messiness
of life God is at work, bringing blessing out of pain. That is the message of Christmas”
Come join us as we prepare for true message of Christmas.

"Living Each Day as a Steward!"
Our Christian stewardship involves more than what we do just on Sunday. Steward-
ship is faith in action, and it refers to all the activities that we do in Christ's name. We are
God's stewards in our homes, workplaces, schools, and in our neighborhoods. We are stew-
ards each and every day. Where God places us, we are called to be His faithful stewards.
To help us grow as stewards, we will begin a program titled
Living Each Day as a Steward!
This three-week program begins on Sunday, November 2nd.
The weekly themes are:
The Steward’s Identity
The Steward’s Purpose
The Steward’s Lifestyle
Let us prayerfully engage and come asking for the Holy Spirit's guidance!
United Methodist Women
Our next meeting will be on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Church So-
cial Hall. We will have our annual pledge service and hopefully a report from Melissa
Fretwell on her most recent trip to Belize and the person we supported with funds for
her education.
All ladies are invited to join us.

November serves as National
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pul-
monary Disease) and Lung Can-
cer awareness month. Often when
we think of smoking, we immedi-
ately consider increased risks for
Lung Cancer. A less talked about
disease process related to smoking
is COPD. COPD is a phrase used to
include many progressive lung dis-
eases, such as emphysema, chronic
bronchitis, non-reversible asthma
and some forms of bronchiectasis.
The most common symptoms of
COPD are breathlessness (or a
"need for air"), abnormal sputum (a
mix of saliva and mucus in the air-
way), and a chronic cough. Daily
activities, such as walking up a
short flight of stairs or carrying a
suitcase, can become very difficult
as the condition gradually worsens.
Many people mistake their in-
creased breathlessness and cough-
ing as a normal part of aging.
Main risk factors for COPD
Tobacco smoking, including
second hand and passive
Indoor air pollution (such as
biomass fuel used for cooking and
heating)
Outdoor air pollution
Occupational dusts and chemi-
cals (vapors, irritants, and
fumes)
A few important facts about COPD;
12 million adults have COPD
and another 12 million are
undiagnosed or developing
COPD
70% of all Americans with
COPD are younger than 65
years of age
COPD kills more women than
men
Most people are not diagnosed
until they have already lost
half of their lung function
COPD is often misdiagnosed as
asthma, leading to inappro-
priate treatment and less
optimal outcomes
COPD rarely occurs alone:
heart disease, hypertension,
diabetes and depression are
common co-morbid dis-
eases
There is no cure, but treatments
are available to help people
live with their COPD
