Re: Advancement Academy August 21 - 27, 2016

Dear Ranger, Parent(s), and Guardian(s),

The Academy Staff sends warm Christian greetings.

Spring has started which means summer is just around the corner and time for outdoor games, sports, picnics, and once again the academy.  It is going to be another great time of enjoying the outdoors, meeting new rangers, working on merits, and getting to know the LORD.

The academy provides boys an opportunity to earn merits through age specific curriculum and learning leadership skills.  The merits boys earn can to help you earn your age group advancements, merits, “GMA”, “Trail of the Saber Award”, and saber.  It will also help you complete the “Trail of the Grizzly”, so you can join or advance in FCF.  Each camp utilizes the patrol system in training boys to work together, while creating their patrol spirit and camaraderie through flag making, yells, songs, and nightly council fires.  Each year, reinforces and expands their camping and leadership skills in a spiritual atmosphere.  Boys attending the academy will build confidence in themselves, in addition to developing into spiritual leaders within their churches and outposts.

Our staff is in prayer for the upcoming academy and look forward to joining your son(s), as they grow Mentally, Physically, Socially, and Spiritually.  Please pray with us that the LORD’s Will be done and the boys draw closer to HIM.  Together we will continue to move forward in HIS Glory.

Thank you for your continued interest and support of the academy and we look forward to seeing you soon.

In HIS Service, The Academy Staff

CAMPS AVAILABLE

This  year,  several  “EJLC”  (Elite  Junior  Leadership  Camp)  graduates  will  be  returning  to  serve  in  various positions throughout the Academy; it is very exciting to see the fruit of GOD’s Work at the Academy.

There will be ten (10) camps offered this year:

We offer the following camps for boys – RTC (New), JFC, JEMC, JTC, AJTC, JSC, JCE, JMC, EJLC, and SGT.

The Advancement Academy provides the opportunities for boys to receive the training and mentoring needed to grow as rangers, mature Christian young men, and to become the Commanders and Leaders of the future.

As each boy progresses from camp to camp, his teamwork, mentoring, and leadership skills are honed and put to use.  At the same time, he is learning to be part of a patrol in a CHRIST‐centered team.  The camps reinforce Christian doctrine and principles, with each camp holding and participating  in  its own council  fire (a time of praise, worship, and prayer) each night.  The LORD continues to bless both the boys and their commanders by meeting them during these special times around their council fires and the altars built in their hearts.

CAMP ASSIGNMENTS

Camp assignments are according to a boy’s school grade, NOT AGE.  His grade is referring to the school grade he will be ENTERING  in September.    If he has  just completed the fifth  (5th) grade, consider him a sixth  (6th) grader.   Unfortunately,  if a boy did not complete the grade and attended the NJRRAA  last summer; he may not be eligible to attend the next camp.   He MUST attend based upon his grade, not his age.   We recognize that this may result in a boy being unable to attend until he completes the appropriate grade.

ACADEMY GOALS

It is the expressed purpose of the Advancement Academy to achieve the following goals:

1) To challenge a boy to a deeper relationship with our LORD ‐ JESUS CHRIST2) To provide an atmosphere in which boys can build meaningful relationships through fun and teamwork3) To challenge the boys by achieving and advancing up the royal ranger advancement trail4) To challenge boys specifically to earn the Gold Eagle, Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medal of Achievements

and the Expedition Rangers Leadership Medal5) To provide the highest quality of training possible

ACADEMY PHILOSOPHY

The Academy is “READY” to get boys moving on the right track towards completing the merit awards needed to earn their advancements, medals, GMA, saber, and joining FCF.  This will not only help develop the overall boy but will better enable him to help his church, outpost, commanders, patrol, and fellow rangers.    As  boys  progress  from  year  to  year,  they will  be  able  to  complete  the  requirements  for  the  JLTA  (Junior Leadership Training Academy).  This will give boys the opportunity to attend other camps were they can fine tune and put to use the training and skills they have received.  It will also, give boys a reason to stay excited about rangers, mentor those who are following, strive to become a commander, and mature in the LORD.

APPLICATION AND FORMS

Please PRINT all requested information clearly, sign, and mail with a one‐hundred dollar ($100.00) deposit per boy.    Check(s)  are  payable  to  the  “NJDRRAA”  and mailed  to  Commander  Bob  Carlino,  209  Fawn  Drive, Newfield, NJ  08344‐9573.    Any missing  information: medical  history,  signatures,  etc, will  cause  a  delay  in processing or a returned application.  Please indicate on the medical history any diet restrictions, medications he is currently taking and will be taking during the Academy, and/or allergies your son(s) may have.  At registration, all paperwork is due including any missing medical forms or information, signature(s) and the “Permission Slip(s)” in this packet, signed by a parent or guardian.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Boys need parental permission to carry a pocketknife; he also needs his CUT AND CHOP CARD/TOOL CRAFT SAFETY CARD.  Boy must have this card in his possession while at the Academy to use a pocketknife, throwing knife, bow saw, hawk, and/or axe.  Physical examinations are optional but YOU MUST COMPLETE AND UPDATE YOUR SON’S MEDICAL HISTORY.  Last year’s information is not available for use by the camp.  If obtaining a physical, please have it signed with all  information, Doctor’s name, and address  filled out and printed clearly.   Physicals are good  for  three  (3) years; send a copy along with the medical history.  At registration on Sunday, please speak with your son’s camp coordinator and the camp’s medical staff, if your son has any SPECIAL NEEDS or he has and/or he  is TAKING ANY MEDICATION.   Your son’s health and well‐being  is  our main  concern.    This  includes  if  you  do  not want  him  to  participate  in  any merits  or  physical activities during the Academy.

CELL PHONES/ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

We  ask  that  you  reframe  from  sending  your  son  to  the  academy  with  a  cell  phone  or  other  electronic equipment.  The staff have cell phones and camp phones are available should your son or the camp staff need to contact you.  This also helps you by avoiding any unnecessary trips to the camp and helps the staff handle concerns that may arise.  When finding a phone or other electronic equipment, a commander will hold it until the Academy is over.
