With the onset of the chilly weather it is timely that I read on the NSW Department of Education home page an article around keeping your family healthier this winter. From this I’d like to share some simple steps to stay healthier this winter and stop the spread of flu. What are the symptoms? Flu symptoms range from mild to severe and can include: fever and chills cough, sore throat and runny or stuffy nose muscle aches, joint pains, headaches and fatigue (feeling very tired) nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea (more common in children than adults). Steps to stop the spread of flu. Get a flu shot. A flu shot is safe for everyone over six months and it does not give you the flu. Sneeze into your elbow. Did you know a sneeze can travel 1-2 metres and a single sneeze droplet may contain 200,000,000 individual virus particles? Clean your hands. A flu virus can survive on unwashed hands for at least 30 minutes and up to two days on other surfaces. Stay at home if you are sick. Flu can spread quickly when large numbers of people are in close contact, such as at school, work, sport or social events so keep sick children away from school and other activities. See a doctor if symptoms get worse. If your child is absent from school because he/she is sick, please phone the office on each day of absence or send a message via Skoolbag. Premier’s Sporting Challenge – 10 weeks – starting this week – Staff …. and students!! Not only are we sharpening our mental saws, but we are getting physical too! The staff are starting the next part of our SWISH program this week. We are stepping it out and tracking our physical activity as part of the Premier’s Sporting Challenge. But … we will not be alone. We are also recording the physical activity of our students. The challenge for the students is 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week. The students will meet this through our school-based programs, but will need to ensure that they are here at school to do it and are also participating. Each week we tick off each student if he/she has participated in the 150 minutes. If for some reason, students miss a session of planned activity, maybe they can tell their teacher about an activity that they did outside of school that week eg soccer training. At New Lambton Heights Infants School we acknowledge that we teach, learn and play together on the traditional country of the Awabakal people, who are the custodians of this land. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

BRRRR!!! With the onset of the chilly weather it is timely that I read on the NSW Department of Education home page an article around keeping your family healthier this winter. From this I’d like to share some simple steps to stay healthier this winter and stop the spread of flu.

What are the symptoms?

Flu symptoms range from mild to severe and can include: • fever and chills • cough, sore throat and runny or stuffy nose • muscle aches, joint pains, headaches and fatigue

(feeling very tired) • nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea (more common in

children than adults).

Steps to stop the spread of flu. • Get a flu shot. A flu shot is safe for everyone over

six months and it does not give you the flu. • Sneeze into your elbow. Did you know a sneeze

can travel 1-2 metres and a single sneeze droplet may contain 200,000,000 individual virus particles?

• Clean your hands. A flu virus can survive on unwashed hands for at least 30 minutes and up to two days on other surfaces.

• Stay at home if you are sick. Flu can spread quickly when large numbers of people are in close contact, such as at school, work, sport or social events so keep sick children away from school and other activities.

• See a doctor if symptoms get worse. If your child is absent from school because he/she is sick, please phone the office on each day of absence or send a message via Skoolbag.

Stay well

VALUES FOCUS – Responsibility at assembly

ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 We are currently taking the names of families who are seeking enrolment in 2020. There are places available in K, 1 and 2. If you are enrolling a sibling or know of any friends, family or neighbours who would like to enrol, please ask them to phone the school or come and see the office. Out of zone applicants are required to fill in some extra information and these will be considered early in Term 3. This year we were able to accept all out of zone applications, but this is decided year by year, depending on the number of local applicants. We have a wonderful school, so please spread the word. Also, if your child is currently enrolled in K or Year 1 and you do not intend to return in 2020, please let Mrs Hughes know in person or via email. This will help with our projected numbers in 2020. We will be sending a letter home to all families in the next 2 weeks to determine numbers for 2020 and to establish links with Year 3 schools for transition.
