Don’t all lives matter?
When negative facts hit you right between the eyes,
it’s hard to imagine that whatev-er those facts are, aren’t imme-diately rectified.
Many of the following facts come from a brilliant researcher Heather MacDonald, author of “The War on Cops”.
Nationwide, black on black crime is completely out of hand. The “Black Lives Mat-ter” movement is doing little, if anything, to fix the problem. I submit that their focus is com-pletely misdirected.
Let me start with some of those “facts” that I open with. Approximately 6,000 (most-ly young) blacks are murdered each year. Even though blacks make up only thirteen percent of the population, this number far exceeds whites and Hispan-ics combined. Why are blacks killed at six times the rate of the rest of the population – facts don’t lie and you can’t stick your head in the sand.
Many in the Black Lives Matter movement want you to believe “it’s the cops” – not even close. But remember Fer-guson, Missouri, August 2014 Officer Darren Wilson shot and killed black teenager Michael Brown and set off weeks of riots and the city was looted and destroyed. To this day the cry of “Hands up don’t shoot” is seen on many t-shirts as initially the lie was perpetuated that Michael Brown was running from the officer with his hands in the air
and was shot in the back.Responsible black citizens
put that hocus pocus to rest by substantiating Officer Wil-son’s testimony that Brown was attempting to wrestle Officer Wilson’s weapon from him. Why weren’t the Reverend Al Sharpton and Reverend Jesse Jackson pushing the true facts?
Black males between the age of fourteen and seventeen commit homicides at ten times the rate of white and Hispanic males combined. According to the Washington Post in 2015 police killed 987 civilians, most of them armed or threatening lethal force – 493 were white and 258 were black.
If the facts are correct and I have no reason to doubt them, who is murdering the approxi-mately 6,000 blacks each year? - Sadly, for the most part, other blacks. Why is this uncomfort-able truth so ignored? Why don’t we see the reality reported that in the past decade forty percent of all cop killers were black?
Why don’t we see that twelve percent of white and Hispanic homicide victims are killed by police compared to four percent of blacks? Couldn’t one reason-ably assume that white and His-
panic lives also matter? There is little doubt that a cam-
paign against cops does exist in America, often called “the Ferguson Effect”. FBI Direc-tor James Comey addressed it while speaking at the University of Chicago Law School last fall. He attributed the sharp rise in homicides and shootings to a campaign against cops.
He was rebuked by President Obama (without naming him) as cherry picking data to drive political agendas. You see, our President knows much more about law enforcement than our FBI Director??
My years in law enforcement are behind me but my heart will always be with the cops. In this era of less and less respect for authority the torment of officers with cell phones recording the incident (many staged) to dis-credit the police will increase.
The ACLU holds that law enforcement actions are racist if they don’t mirror the popula-tion. In New York City, blacks make up twenty three percent of the population. They com-mit seventy five percent of all shootings, seventy percent of all robberies, and sixty six per-cent of all violent crime. Whites are thirty three percent of the city’s population but they com-mit fewer than two percent of all shootings, four percent of all robberies, and five percent of all violent crime. I’m sure the ACLU simply missed this reality.
All of us; blacks, whites, and Hispanics, must rebuke this sad reality and yes – All Lives Do Matter.

R Hop on over to FHN for a Saturday of healthy family fun!The Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois and FHN are teaming up to bring you the region’s best healthy activities, wellness tips, and lots of fun to kick off your summer – all in one day!
Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically and gain weight twice as fast during summer as during the school year. Come out to Healthy Kids Day®, a national YMCA initiative, and the FHN Family Health Fair at FHN’s Burchard Hills facility to kick start some healthier summer behaviors. Activities include archery, a teen agility course and CATCH activities, an obstacle course, bike rodeo and photo booth, and many other games and demonstrations as well as all kinds of fun and useful healthcare information.
Roller skate on the bike path with the Skate Station, walk the Born Learning Trail with the United Way of Northwest Illinois, discover antique medical equipment with the Stephenson County Historical Society or learn about science at the Children’s Hands On Museum booth. Dance to live music provided by Big Radio!
All activities are free and events will be held come rain or shine. For more information, visit www.fhn.org and spring into a healthy summer with the Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois and FHN!
