Deacon’s Message Deacon Ray Smith
You serve God by serving His people
A Refection on today’s Gospel: Matthew 25: 31-46,
by Ray Smith
Today marks the end or our liturgical year
and next week we will enter our first Sunday
of advent.
These past four weeks we have been witness
to some of Jesus’ the most powerful teach-
ings:
-The Beatitudes and the promise of the King-
dom of God
-The Parable of the 10 virgins and warning
for us to be ready
-The Parable of the talents reminding us to
use our gifts wisely and
-Today’s final message of the liturgical year
to remind us of our duty to love God by serv-
ing our neighbor
We love God by doing His will, in which He
commands us to “will the good of our neigh-
bor.” When we do good towards the less for-
tunate and disadvantaged we are doing it for
God. By performing works of charity and
mercy we hope to receive the same from God
on the final judgement day.
As we closeout this year, this is a good time
to reflect back over the past 12 months and
ask, “Did I help feed the hungry? Did I wel-
come the stranger? Did I provide clothes to
the needy? Did I visit the sick and lonely?” If
you can affirm these things you have served
God well. If not, set up a plan this new litur-
gical year to work towards serving God bet-
ter and your rewards will be great in heaven.
Sirves a Dios sirviendo a Su pueblo.
abandonado?” Si puedes afirmar estas cosas, has
servido bien a Dios.
servir mejor a Dios y tus recompensas serán
grandiosas en el cielo.

Simbang Gabi
Masses 2020
Simbang Gabi (Filipino for
“Night Masses”) is tradi-
tionally a pre-dawn novena
of Masses from December
16-24 culminating at Christmas midnight mass. This tradition
expresses the Filipinos’ joyful anticipation of the birth of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
In the past, Filipino Catholics usually gather in different parish-
es within deanery 11 to gather for these Masses but this time,
due to Civid-19, the priests decided to celebrate all Simbang
Gabi Masses at St. Pius Church.
Filipinos invite EVERYONE to celebrate the Simbang Gabi
Masses as they share this religious tradition and culture to our
community. More information will follow.

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Reading 1 Reading 2 EZ 34:11-12, 15-17 1 COR 15:20-26, 28
Responsorial Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd; there is
nothing I shall want.
Gospel: MT 25:31-46
Jesus said to his disciples:
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory,
and all the angels with him,
he will sit upon his glorious throne,
and all the nations will be assembled before him.
And he will separate them one from another,
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right,
'Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of
the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.’
Then the righteous will answer him and say,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you drink?
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you,
or naked and clothe you?
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’
And the king will say to them in reply,
'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did
for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
Then he will say to those on his left,
'Depart from me, you accursed,
into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you gave me no food,
I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
a stranger and you gave me no welcome,
naked and you gave me no clothing,
ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’
Then they will answer and say,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty
or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison,
and not minister to your needs?’
He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you,
what you did not do for one of these least ones,
you did not do for me.’
And these will go off to eternal punishment,
but the righteous to eternal life."
Evangelio: Mt 25, 31-46
preparado para ustedes desde la creación del mundo;
hospedaron, estuve desnudo y me vistieron, enfermo
y me visitaron, encarcelado y fueron a verme’. Los
vimos enfermo o encarcelado y te fuimos a ver?’ Y
ron, estuve desnudo y no me vistieron, enfermo y
encarcelado y no me visitaron’.
Entonces ellos le responderán: ‘Señor, ¿cuándo te
vimos hambriento o sediento, de forastero o desnudo,
enfermo o encarcelado y no te asistimos?’
