Knights of Columbus Insurance Corner

Plan for This Tax Day and Into the Future

April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason. Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will al-low you to save some money on your income tax return. And our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does retirement income that you cannot outlive — guaranteed — sound to you? Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee — along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute safety of principal) — really will provide you with peace of mind. I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care insurance plans. LET US PRAY... Ancient Prayer to

Saint Joseph

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection

is so great, so strong, so prompt

before the throne of God, I place

in you all my interest and desires.

Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by

your powerful intercession, and

obtain for me from your divine

Son all spiritual blessings,

through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So

that, having engaged here below

your heavenly power, I may offer

my thanksgiving and homage to

the most loving of Fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary con-

templating you, and Jesus asleep

in your arms; I dare not approach

while He reposes near your heart.

Press Him close in my name and

kiss His fine head for me and ask

Him to return the kiss when I

draw my dying breath. St. Joseph,

patron of departing souls, pray

for me.

Amen.

From the Brothers

Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest Results

At the December monthly meeting, the Brothers there that night helped to vote on win-

ners for the Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest that our council sponsored. The

pictures of the submitted posters can be seen on the following pages. In all the top

three winners in each of the three age groups 5 to 7, 8 to 10, and 11 to 14 were awarded

cash gifts, and the remaining contestants were awarded $10 Caliche ice cream certifi-

cates. In all we provided roughly $250 worth of prizes to the children.

Thank you to Brother Jay O’Neil for spearheading this project and spreading the word

throughout our church’s catechism classes and over at Holy Cross as well.

Little Tony

Little Tony’s mom was a beautiful Catholic lady, and his dad.....well he was a Mafioso. Tony really wanted a bike for Easter so, on Ash Wednesday he sat down to write Jesus a letter. Dear Jesus, if I am a good boy for 40 days........... He stopped while thinking, I can’t possibly be good for 40 days. He start-ed his letter again........ Dear Jesus, If I can be good a good boy for 20 days....... He stopped once more.........I can’t be good for 20 days......... Tony finally realized he most likely could not even be good for 5 days. Upon pondering the situation for awhile, Little Tony walked into his folks room, threw a blanket over the statue of Mary dragging it to his room. After shoving the statue under his bed he sat down and boldly began writing once more............... Dear Jesus, If you ever want to see your mother again.................

A number of brothers helped in cutting down five 50 foot tall pine trees for

Brother Sam Saenz’s cousin. The trees were all cleared without incident but I

do believe there is a stockpile of leftover wood from this deforestation if any-

body is interested!

Dues Payment Giveaway!!!

Brothers, your dues are critical to our council operating and charitable budget each year. We’ve taken efforts this past year to lessen the dues burden on the member-

ship and have reduced the annual dues from $60 to $40. Additionally, we now have the ability to charge your dues to your credit card (this must be done in person with

the physical credit card in hand).

As a bonus for 2018, we’d like to say thank you to our loyal dues payers and appeal to the entire membership to pay your dues early. So for any member

who pays their dues by April 1st, 2018, you are welcome to select one of the items below as our “Thank You!” for supporting our council. Just write your choice of option down on your payment slip if you mail in your payment or let the officers

know if you pay in person.

Feel free to call or email with any questions you have: Daniel Duffin, Grand Knight, 562-644-1057, [email protected]
