Honus Honus (aka Ryan Kattner) has devoted his career to exploring the uncertainty between life’s extremes, beauty, and ugliness, order and chaos. The songs on Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between, Man Man’s first album in over six years and their Sub Pop debut, are as intimate, soulful, and timeless as they are audaciously inventive and daring, resulting in his best Man Man album to date.

The 17-track effort, featuring “Cloud Nein,” “Future Peg,” “On the Mend” “Sheela,” and “Animal Attraction,” was produced by Cyrus Ghahremani, mixed by S. Husky Höskulds (Norah Jones, Tom Waits, Mike Patton, Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette, Allen Toussaint), and mastered by Dave Cooley (Blood Orange, M83, DIIV, Paramore, Snail Mail, clipping). Dream Hunting...also includes guest vocals from Steady Holiday’s Dre Babinski on “Future Peg” and “If Only,” and Rebecca Black (singer of the viral pop hit, “Friday”) on “On The Mend” and “Lonely Beuys.” The album follows the release of “Beached” and “Witch,“ Man Man’s contributions to Vol. 4 of the Sub Pop Singles Club in 2019.

At the end of 2015, Man Man went on an unexpected hiatus, and thus began a period of creative reinvention for Honus Honus. He worked in music supervision and on scores (The Exorcist, Superdeluxe, Do You Want to See a Dead Body?). He acted in the indie film Woe (“I played a park ranger, a nice guy in a sad movie.”), So It Goes, a short musical film with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and starred in the award-winning tour documentary Use Your Delusion. He also developed an animated series, wrote film scripts, a graphic novel, a neo-noir TV pilot, and briefly penned a music column for The Talkhouse all while continuing to work on new music, such as an unreleased kids’ record, another Mister Heavenly album, a self-released Honus Honus record, and a conceptual art/noise project Mega Naturals.

In the midst of this surreal exile from Man Man, Honus began piecing together what would become Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between. He recruited longtime-collaborator Cyrus Ghahremani to help him produce. Written in a friend’s LA guesthouse that had “an old upright piano, a thrift store lamp, and nothing else,” it was an arduous, three-and-a-half-year process, “I had chord progressions that looked like chicken scratch and lyrics on pieces of paper stuck all over the walls. It looked like I was about to break the big case, catch the killer,” he says, laughing. “There was a lot of self-doubt, fighting the urge to throw in the towel. It wasn’t fun but it definitely forced the best album of my career out of me. Sometimes you just gotta tear it all down to rebuild things the right way. Trust the process.”

BLENDED BREW IS RELEASING THEIR LONG AWAITED 2ND ALBUM TITLED “SHOVE IT DOWN” IN MAY 2020.

Since the debut album and the subsequent EP, the band has been really busy. This album was written, recorded and produced by Jimmy (Vocal+guitar), Sebastian (keys) and Christoffer (Drums) in collaboration with Christian Heyman of Heyman Studios. Everything was recorded live and analog and run on tape machine to acquire as authentic rock sound as possible.

“I feel we have found our very own sound for this album. Maybe we spent a month trying to make the drums sound raw and authentic.“ says Jimmy, the lead singer. The style is rock with big R, and their inspiration from artists such as AC/DC and Deep Purple has made the band focus on the characteristic in their expression in the form of a very strong lead vocal as well as a thick Hammond organ. The sound the band is based on is inspired by colleagues like Rival Sons and Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown.

The end of the album shows a very sensitive side in their last song „Don’t Say No“ where Jimmy on vocals and Lord Sebastian on piano show their professionalism in a very felt rock ballad.

"I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been asked. That if I could do it all over again, what would I change? It’s a tricky question and for an artist, sometimes an unfair one.

Because when we looked back, hindsight is always 20/20 and we know it all, and familiar with the Monday morning quarterback scenario, where everyone knows where he should have thrown the ball or kicked it. What the hell did I know when I walked into the recording studio the first time in 1976 to record my first album? The answer is nothing, and I can honestly admit, it didn’t really change 10 years or 20 years later on. With every album I recorded or every tour I finished I always came home with so much more knowledge than when I started it, and always wished I’d known it all at the beginning.

The songs on “Second Time Around” are some of my favorite compositions, and for many years I have gone around with a feeling that they were never given a real chance. I have missed them in my live shows and I have missed singing them. So when I made the decision to rebuild and resurrect this bunch of songs, with the help of my trusted brothers in rock’n’roll who have all been a part of my last seven solo albums in different ways, it was truly a chance to go for a “Second Time Around”, and this time I grabbed it, clear in my mind and focused like never before. A great moment of embracing that the songs I have written always clearly expresses who Mike Tramp is.

I am proud of these songs. They are like my other albums and 100% representation of who Mike Tramp is. If aliens came down to earth and happened to pick up “Second Time Around” as the first Mike Tramp album they heard, I would be truly proud and confident that all of my DNA, would be in this album". This tight-knit group of Chicago friends has taken a lot from their hometown contemporaries—on 2018’s Hollows, they borrowed bits from breakneck pop-punk and blissed-out indie rock to create something both healing and heartfelt. The next stage of City Mouth is about to open wide, too, and it promises something with a lot more sparkle. The catchiness and catharsis remains. It’s just delivered with the glitz of a DJ night spinning pop hits while maintaining the same gut-wrenching earnestness from the band’s early DNA. Mark Mcclusky (Motion City Soundtrack, Weezer) enters the band’s stacked personnel list, which has included appearances by Real Friends’ Dan Lambton and Dave Knox, to give the City Mouth formula another bite.

Just take a listen to “Sanity for Summer,” the lead single that earned a shoutout on Late Night with Seth Meyers. It’s relentless with its melody, a monster of swirling keyboards and arching guitars. It may namedrop Julien Baker, but the rapid hope loss anchored to the soaring arrangements could’ve been attached to any cameo. It’s in the connective tissue between mental health and monstrous hope where this pop-rock outfit finds its best heartline. And that doesn’t stop here. Brisk follow-up “For a Second” punches up an electronic backbone and injects it with infectious energy, not to mention its fizzy rock push at the buzzer. These heel-turn moments—a nudge of guitar here, a spritz of drum programming here—propels City Mouth past the basement diary days of their past and sets the stage for something much bigger, with a headspace to match.

Tommy Emmanuel, CGP has achieved enough musical milestones to satisfy several lifetimes. Or at least they would if he was the kind of artist who was ever satisfied. At the age of six, he was touring Australia with his family band. By 30, he was a rock lead guitarist playing stadiums. At 44, he became one of five people ever named a Certified Guitar Player (CGP) by his idol, music icon Chet Atkins. Today, he plays sold-out shows everywhere from Nashville to Sydney to London.

Influenced by the Merle Travis/Chet Atkins fingerstyle of guitar picking, Tommy developed a style of solo guitar playing that encompasses the range of a whole band – covering drums, bass, rhythm lead guitar, and a vocal melody simultaneously. In a career spanning more than four decades, John Stewart swiftly progressed from his beginnings in a southern California garage band, through folk groups The Cumberland Three and The Kingston Trio, to a successful solo career. He contributed well over 40 albums and more than 600 songs to our musical universe. His song catalog is not only staggering in volume, but it’s also loaded with classic compositions. Most will know Stewart’s songwriting from “Daydream Believer” by The Monkees (and Anne Murray) or his own Lindsey Buckingham-produced, “Gold,” a #5 hit in 1979, but just as impressive are “Runaway Train” from Rosanne Cash’s 1987 King’s Record Shop album, “Sweet Dreams Will Come” on Nanci Griffith’s Little Love Affairs or “Mother Country” from Stewart’s own 1969 California Bloodlines album which was used to usher the Apollo 11 spacecraft safely back to Earth after its historic journey.

Omnivore is thrilled to present Old Forgotten Altars: The 1960s Demos. Four tunes found here wound up on The Kingston Trio’s Children Of The Morning album released in 1966 with one of them, “The Spinnin’ Of The World,” getting a second airing on 1979s hit album, Bombs Away Dream Babies which yielded the aforementionaed charting single, “Gold,” with two other songs, “Midnight Wind” and “Lost Her In The Sun” also making the Top 40. Three duets with Buffy Ford Stewart foreshadow Signals Through The Glass album which the singing partners, and later husband and wife team, would release on Capitol Records in 1968. This collection also features five tracks that would form nearly half of Stewart’s classic California Bloodlines album released in 1969. Of particular note, “July, You’re A Woman” makes its first recorded appearance here alongside demos for “Mother Country” and “The Pirates Of Stone County Road.”

In 2001, Stewart was honored by the World Folk Music Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award and continued to perform live until nearly 2008. We honor his life’s work and legacy with this peek behind the curtain into his songwriting process while he was making his way from The Kingston Trio to his solo career.
