“Between the Ears” Equine Camp (co-ed) Have you ever wondered how a horse thinks? Does learning to care for and ride a horse appeal to you? Then Midway College’s “Between the Ears” equine camp is for you! Campers will learn the basics about how to care for a horse, and will be involved in both riding and non-riding activities. Structured age appropriate activities will encourage campers to gain a new perspective about horses. Riding experience is not necessary as camp activities are designed for the beginner rider. Through a combination of riding exercises, basic equine care, and other instructional activities, campers will learn to work in partnership with the horse. No experience required. Limit 8 campers per camp. June 8–12 (Ages 8–10) June 15–19 (Ages 11–12)$450

“Advanced Horsemanship” Equine Camp (co-ed) Would you like to improve your riding skills? Or even bring your horse to

camp and work with a college-level coach? Then Midway College’s “Advanced Horsemanship” equine camp is the one you should join. Campers will advance their riding skills under the instruction of Midway College’s coaches. There will be additional

unmounted activities that will improve overall horse management skills. For this camp, riding experience is required. Campers must be riding at the intermediate to advanced level, and be able to control a horse at the walk, trot, and canter independently for an extended period of time. Campers must have a minimum of 6 months of weekly riding lessons, or the equivalent. Campers may be able to board their personal horse for the week of camp at the college’s facilities for an additional fee (boarding rates available upon request), or they may choose to ride the college’s horses instead. Individuals interested in bringing their own horse will need to fill out supplemental forms. Limit 10 campers per camp.June 22–26 (Ages 13 & up)June 29–July 3 (Ages 13 & up)$450

Girl Power! Camps (girls only)Midway College has been focused on developing leadership skills and

empowering young women for more than 165 years. These week-long day camps will focus on developing independence, building self-confidence and teaching girls to be leaders through a wide variety of fun, hands-on activities.

The theme of week one—“Kentucky Proud”—will explore what makes Kentucky special. Kentucky Proud exploration could include Agriculture, Sports, Appalachia, Equine, State Symbols, Historic Sites, and famous Kentuckians, just to name a few. We will snack on locally grown foods and represent our

favorite Kentucky high school or college team in fun camp games. Come prepared to celebrate the great state of Kentucky!

Week two’s theme—“Girls Through the Decades”— will examine what it was like for the girls and women of the 1940s, ’50s, ‘60s, ’70s and ’80s. Each day campers will experience a different decade through food, fashion, film, music, dance, and games. This camp will provide a great opportunity for campers to interact with their parents and grandparents about what life was like when they were growing up! June 8–12 “Kentucky Proud” (Ages 6–12)June 22–26 “Girls through the Decades” (Ages 6–12)$250

Write On! Get Your Read On! (co-ed)Enter in to get the best of both worlds- combining story world imagination with real world information. There will be hands-on experiences using literature to improve math, social studies, and science thinking skills. Cultural studies will be explored through a wide variety of children’s books. Activities include writing and development projects. Edit and publish a newspaper. Design, illustrate, and script your own book, then bind it. Be a storyteller by telling your story and listening to professionals craft a story. We’ll get dramatic and explore stories through Reader’s Theater on the stage and with props. This will be a fun week of developing strong writing skills. June 22–26 (Ages 8 & up)June 29–July 3 (Ages 8 & up)$250
