The Resurrection of the Lord

Reading I

Acts 10: 34a, 37-43

We ate and drank with Him

after He rose from the dead.

Reflection: In the Acts of the Apostles, St.

Peter gives witness to the life, death and

resurrection of Jesus Christ. He reminds us

that as women and men of faith, we “receive

forgiveness of sins through his name.” Does

the name of Jesus describe how I live my

life of faith in our world today?

Psalm 118

This is the day the Lord has made;

let us rejoice and be glad!

Reading II

Colossians 3: 1-4

Seek what is above, where Christ is.

St. Paul, in his letter to the Colossians,

expresses the meaning of Christ’s death and

resurrection. We who have been raised with

Christ do not focus on the things of this

world, but seek what is above, where Christ

is seated at the right hand of God. Do I

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on the

altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to

build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in

word the needs of our people.

search during these days of uncertainty for

the Risen life of Christ over the fears in

today’s world?

Sequence

Christians, offer your thankful praises.

Gospel

John 20: 1-9

He had to rise from the dead.

In John’s gospel, Mary discovers that the

tomb is empty. She brings that news to

Simon Peter and the disciple whom Jesus

loved. Mary, the apostle to the apostles,

invites them to join in her resurrection

experience. When they share in her

experience, they too come to believe in the

Risen Lord. As we share our experiences of

the risen life of Christ, do I deepen in faith?

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O good Jesus, hear me.

Within your wounds, hide me.

Permit me not to be separated from you.

From the wicked enemy defend me.

At the hour of my death call me,

bid me come to your side, that with your

saints I may praise you forever and ever.

PASTOR’S CORNER

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Easter Sunday concludes the Sacred Triduum

and begins the Easter Season. We move into a

time of reflection on how we witness to what

we have seen and heard. We announce to

others that Jesus Christ is Risen … He has

risen indeed! The tomb is open and empty.

The Risen Christ is among us. His creative

love renews our world.

Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 11 at 8 pm http://cathedralstl.org/live/

Easter Sunday, April 12 at 8 am http://cathedralstl.org/live/

Easter Fire: The light of Christ shatters the

darkness. In story and song, the Word reveals

a history of hope, a journey with our God.

Baptismal Water: Living waters cleanse and

refresh, bestowing the Spirit of God upon us,

renewing us and new members into Church.

Holy Oils: New oils of the Sick, of Cate-

chumens and Chrism are blessed and brought

into Churches for our journeys ahead.

Word and Eucharist: We announce what we

have seen and heard. Our story of faith is told

as love is heard and communion is shared.

Our salvation history has moved from incar-

nation to revelation in Jesus Christ. We hear

“Do not be afraid!” The Easter Season

begins in hope and joy. We rise up from sin

and death into new life. We search and find a

way to love that heals, true confidence that

strengthens, and daily life that invites our

creative love to reign. Easter Peace!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Our Parish Pastoral Council met last Sunday, April 5, (on-line mind you) to

evaluate and discuss the Special Assembly and Future of Parishes Final Report. The

Council members were given an update from the Parish Life Coordinator on news for

the Parish.

The Special Assembly on Sunday, March 15 went well and met its objectives.

Approximately, one third of the parish community attended the Sunday Conversation.

A survey was issued and collected as necessary data to complete the Future of Parishes

Final Report. The second part of meeting involved reviewing the prioritizing the results

of the Parish Survey identifying the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats

(SWOT). These results of this conversation will be used in the development of the

strategic plans for the parish. The Pastoral Council thanks the parishioners for their

participation which shows how much our parishioners care about our parish and offer

their input.

The Future of Parishes Final Report from St. Matthew was submitted on Friday,

April 3. The report concluded with “it is the desire of the parishioners of St. Matthew

the Apostle for the parish to remain open as a Jesuit staffed parish with a Parish Life

Coordinator. The members of St. Matthew the Apostle desire to grow in membership,

have a vibrant community , where members are excited to come and to live out their

Christian calling and mission. Parishioners desire to work toward being a strong

beacon in the neighborhood community. If another parish closes, St. Matthew is

positioned to grow. If growth occurs, the parish has the capacity to hold more

parishioners and more Jesuits can reside in the parish.”

Parish Life Coordinator Report

St. Matthew has accepted the invitation to be a practicum site for theology

students from Aquinas Institute looking to understand and strengthen their skills

In pastoral care and parish leadership.

Beginning with the new financial year, another Jesuit will reside in the rectory.

Fr. Thomas Greene will be the Provincial of the Central and Southern Jesuits

beginning July 31. His desire is to live at St. Matthew and may assist with parish

masses, but is not a member of the Parish Staff.
