RELEASE OF EDUCATION RECORDS AND FERPA

The Family Educational Rights Act (FERPA) of 1974, commonly known as FERPA, is a federal law that protects the privacy of student records. Student record information can include student financial account, financial aid, academic, and/or directory information. Students have specific, protected rights regarding the release of such records and FERPA requires that institutions adhere strictly to these guidelines.

For those students who wish to share their protected information, UMSL offers an easy method to grant access to a third party, such as parents. To release personal information to a third party, utilize the Additional Authorized Access feature located in the Student Center in MyView.

During your NSO session, FERPA and the Release of Education Records feature will be introduced. To ensure and allow others to have access or preview your records including financial statements, we encourage students and families to discuss and complete the Additional Authorized Access process be-fore their arrival to NSO. For more information and instructions on this process, please visit the helpful videos section of the Cashier’s Office website:

http://www.umsl.edu/cashiers/student-parent/Helpful-Videos.html
