program details are included in this brochure. Please read these materials carefully and mark

Student Orientation, our staff will help you understand University policies and transition issues
that your new student may experience. We will offer suggestions about how to be a partner in

UMSL is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not

PARKING
When you arrive on campus, parking will be available in Lot E (highlighted on the enclosed map). You will not need to display a permit at this location. Please park carefully and follow the signs in order to avoid parking citations.
CHECK-IN ROGRAM
NSO will be held in the Millennium Student Center, (building #4 on the campus map), with check-in beginning at 7:45 a.m. You will receive a nametag and all NSO materials at that time. The main program begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Please make plans to be on campus until 5:00 p.m.

UMSL E-Mail Account
As part of your admission to UMSL, you are given an e-mail account for your use. All official
University communication is directed through the UMSL e-mail account. It is very important
that you check this account regularly for important information regarding registration,
University events and emergency notification.
You can access your account through the MyGateway portal or directly at the UMSL website
at www.umsl.edu. However, before you can access your account for the first time, you will
need to change your password.
If you have not set up your e-mail account, please contact the Help Desk at:

Once you have finalized your schedule at NSO, we urge you to take advantage of the
UMSL Bookstore’s Textbook Reservation Program immediately after your NSO session.
The greatest amount of discounted used books is available through the reservation
program. We recommend you select your reservation be picked up in the store when
you return to campus to begin classes, but you may also have your books shipped to
your home for a nominal fee.
The UMSL Bookstore is located in the Millennium Student Center on the second floor.
Textbook purchases for a full course load may range from $400-$800, depending on
your courses.

MyVIEW AND MyGATEWAY
MyView is a self-service system in which students
enables user to access campus finances, academic
records, personal information and enrollment.
MyGateway is a self-service site that consolidates
many of the resources available to students, faculty,
and staff. The site features single sign on, so you can
use your UMSL SSO ID and password to sign-in once
and access all of these services.
From this portal, you’ll be able to:
Check grades, class schedule
Check your e-mail
Participate in blackboard classes
Writing Lab and NetTutors
Participate in LiveText classes
View the campus calendar and job listings
Link to DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System)
During Orientation, students will learn to navigate
through these two portals in a computer lab
presented by current leaders.
ON CAMPUS LIVING
Residential Life & Housing and University Meadows are excited to welcome you to campus
and become your new home! Living on campus your first-year is an amazing experience, and
we are here to help you in that transition. UMSL has many housing options that
complements your major, academic goals, or interests.
Wondering what Oak Hall and University Meadows on-campus living options look like? Arrive
early to New Student Orientation and participate in a tour of our on-campus living options
on the South Campus. Take time to see the facilities, programs, and learn from current
students and staff about the benefits of on-campus living.

take your ID photo, and then visit the On-Campus Living Tours station. Make sure to arrive by

TUITION AND FEES
During your NSO session, you will finalize your course reg-istration and class schedule, and attend a Money Matters session. During this session, the Cashier’s Office will high-light the responsibilities and general payment information for your tuition and fees, discuss the process on how to pay and set up an Authorized Payer, and navigate through the MyView portal to preview a summary of the financial charges. The charges will represent the cost of the hours in which you have enrolled, room and board, and additional services (e.g., Financial aid, scholarships, and any additional fees). The Money Matters session will provide valuable information and access to staff members from Financial Aid and the Cashier’s Office. The goal is to help provide students and their families a greater understanding of the financial landscape and they navigate their college career.

RELEASE OF EDUCATION RECORDS AND FERPA
The Family Educational Rights Act (FERPA) of 1974, commonly known as FERPA, is a federal law that protects the privacy of student records. Student record information can include student financial account, financial aid, academic, and/or directory information. Students have specific, protected rights regarding the release of such records and FERPA requires that institutions adhere strictly to these guidelines.
For those students who wish to share their protected information, UMSL offers an easy method to grant access to a third party, such as parents. To release personal information to a third party, utilize the Additional Authorized Access feature located in the Student Center in MyView.
During your NSO session, FERPA and the Release of Education Records feature will be introduced. To ensure and allow others to have access or preview your records including financial statements, we encourage students and families to discuss and complete the Additional Authorized Access process be-fore their arrival to NSO.
