Junior School Weekly A Message from our Head of Junior School Ms Harold Assalamu Alaykum, “Be patient, for what was written for you was written by the greatest of writers” A warm welcome back to Bellfield College for Term 1, 2020, and a special welcome to all our new families joining us this year. I look forward to meeting with each and every one of you. As the saying goes, patience is a virtue, and patient I have been, taking comfort in the knowledge that my faith would get me where I wanted to go. So here I am. As the newly appointed Head of Junior School, I feel incredibly blessed and honoured to be welcomed with open arms and hearts to the Bellfield College family. My induction and welcome would not have been complete, without the support of our one and only wonderful Junior School Admin Officer Mrs Grace Lizzio. Grace works tirelessly to support our students, families and teachers day in and out. Band-Aids, sandwiches…you name it. Nothing is too much for her and I am very lucky to be working alongside a highly valued member of junior school staff. Tuesday saw the return of our Year 1 through to Year 6 students and my first meeting with the student body. I was both humbled and moved to bear witness to the students’ morning Dua and recitation of Surah al-Fatihah and have been overwhelmed with the kindness (week’s character strength) and generosity showered upon me by our students. On Thursday, we welcomed 66 Kindergarten students, a total of 3 full classes, which is testament to the outstanding reputation we have here at Bellfield for delivering high quality education underpinned by Islamic principles. It was wonderful to meet so many families at our Kindy Parent Morning Tea. We thank all who attended. Term 1, 2020 Stay Connected! Are your contact details up to date? The red letter box installed outside my office has encouraged students to put pen to paper and submit welcome letters and kind words, which make my day! My promise is to reply to each and every letter received.

Term 1 will see many exciting educational opportunities provided for our students. Sporting events for Years 3-6, student wellbeing programs such as Life Education with Healthy Harold (no relation to me!), Days to celebrate Harmony, Sisterhood and Brotherhood.

Additionally, Junior School has a newly established wellbeing team, to ensure students are supported in the best way possible, a strengthened Illuminations program and team, a Cultural Diversity Team and a stronger than ever junior school leadership team, with all executive (co-ordinator) positions filled. To take the junior schools to newer heights, I also seek family input and feedback, and look forward to establishing regular student and parent focus groups so you and your children can have your say. It’s going to be a fantastic year at Bellfield College Junior Campus. Enjoy our first weekly bulletin and a sneak peek inside our classrooms, which will be open for viewing on Parent Information Evening.

A Word from College Chaplain Character Strength: Heroes

Imaan Ali: Kindness When one acts kindly towards others, the benefits go both ways. Small, thoughtful acts – like helping, sharing, listening, or teaching – can change both how you are perceived and how you see yourself. When children are encouraged to be kind, their peers want to spend more time around them. Not only does kindness strengthen social relationships, but it also can show that one’s choices have an impact and that one has valuable skills. In short, being kind to others is also being kind to oneself. Islam teaches us to be kind and help each other out as much as possible. It highly recommends feeding the poor, teaching the illiterate, and just brightening up each other’s days with a smile. Imaan Ali displayed this character strength by helping others in class and on the playground, assisting the teacher, and showing amazing kindness to her new friends. Well done Imaan! Keep showing us the Bellfield Spirit.

Things to remember!

2020 School Tax Invoices We wish to advise that the 2020 School Tax Invoices will be posted out on Monday the 3rd of February. Parents are to contact the Accounts Department if you have not received your invoice by Friday the 8th of February, 2020. School Operational Hours Bellfield College operational hours are from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Please note that no child will be allowed alone on premises prior to 8.10am or after 3.40pm due to limitations in supervision. Afternoon Dismissal Each afternoon at 3.20pm the children will be dismissed by the class teacher and proceed as follows: • Parent Car Line Pick up: Parents need to line up in order of arrival and wait until it is their turn to pick up their child/ren in the circular driveway. Unfortunately due to the construction and road works, the RMS has stipulated that no cars are to be parked on the kerb for afternoon pick up. All parents need to wait in the carline for the safety of their children. • Bus Bay: Wait in the designated area for the teachers to supervise the students onto the buses. Rolls are marked before children get onto buses. Road Safety 40km SCHOOL ZONES OPERATE BETWEEN 8.00AM AND 9.30AM AND FROM 2.30PM TO 4.00PM In line with our Road Safety Policy, and for the safety of all children, we actively encourage parents and carers to: . Please park in the parking bays provided during school hours. . Only allow children to exit and enter the car on the kerb side; . Do not use driveways for parking or turning (consider our neighbours); . Always ensure that your child and yourself are “buckled up” in the car. . Make sure you always stand behind the kerb when crossing the road.

Commonwealth School Banking will start soon - stay tuned!!

Bus Rules

It is an expectation that all students follow the bus rules and abide by the Student Behaviour Management Policy. The Bellfield College buses have been provided to assist students and their Families with seeking safe and reliable transport to and from school. It has come to our attention that many students are not following important rules whilst travelling on the bus to and from school. In order to maintain the safety of all our students, it is important that these rules are followed. At Bellfield College we aim to work in partnership with you, in order to provide a safe trip for each of our students. We ask that you support us in this aim, by reminding your son/daughter of the important bus rules below: Failure to abide by the College rules may lead to a suspension of bus privileges for 3 – 10 days depending upon the nature of the offence. This will require you to transport your child to and from school during this time. If your son/daughter breaks one of the rules you will receive a warning regarding their behaviour on the bus, as well as a letter sent home to advise you of this warning.

1. Remain seated throughout the trip (under NO circumstances are children to stand or walk around the bus, unless instructed by the driver to do so)

2. Do not call out of windows, or put hands out of windows 3. Do not throw items out of the bus 4. No drinking hot liquids 5. If requested, sit in seats allocated by the teacher or bus driver 6. Listen and follow ALL instructions given by the teacher or bus driver 7. Do not bring, DS games or any other electronic devices onto buses (this

encourages children to argue over games and encourages them to leave their seats and share games and devices)

8. Do not bully, tease or taunt other students 9. Refrain from rudeness, swearing or use of inappropriate language 10. Any form of damaging bus property or graffiti will result in instant bus

suspension.
