"The years teach much more which the days never know”

From the Board of Directors

Stuart Hoff While the Board will probably not be meeting over the summer, there are a number of things that will be occur-ring:

1. Lawn sodding will begin on a priority basis. You will be advised where you fall in that process, with some idea of time interval. If you have questions about the priority assigned to your property, we will be more than happy to provide a guided tour to those properties which are “ahead” of you.

2. We will continue to review our existing Rules and Regulations, and look forward to resident input on changes that should be considered. Please keep in mind that these are your governing documents.

3. We should see the implementation and “fallout” from the installation and activation of the gates on 40th Street. Our seasonal residents will miss all of the accompanying rancor, and we expect most/all of the bullet holes to be patched by the time they return.

4. Our new Clubhouse roof tiles should make it to the top of our Clubhouse, and be put in place.

5. We will begin the process of examining all of the sidewalks in Unit Five to determine what action may be required, and put together a schedule for necessary corrective action. If you feel that you have an existing or future trouble spot, please contact Director/Vice President Tim Bara, and give him the particulars.

6. We will continue discussions on the Burma Ditch.

For those of you who may already be gone, or those contemplating an extended summer trip, please make sure that you have retained someone to care for your plantings (shrubs, trees, etc.). (continued on page 2)

From the Board of Directors

continued from page 1

Those of us remaining for the summer appreciate the aesthetics of a well-tended Unit. If you have not yet made arrangements, please do so immediately. Left unattended, we will take the initiative to clean up your mess and bill you appro-priately.

Please remember that we will be electing four directors in November 2019. You have the opportunity to be one of them. Our First Mailing, which should go out in September will provide information on how you can “throw your hat into the ring.”

It is hard to believe that our Board is half-way through the year. Most of our inju-ries have only been flesh wounds, and we hope to not just survive but thrive over the last six months of our term. I am proud of the tangible accomplishments made on our Painting, Lawns, Club-house, Golf Cart Parking and Money Management. There has been a lot of hard work put into bringing our docu-ments into the 20th (oops), 21st century. A very big thank you to Pauline Carr, Barbara Parker, and the Committee leader, Joanne Hannon. We expect that the finished product will be something we all may appreciate and be proud of – especially if you remember to be a part of that process over the next four months.

Finally, I would like to thank our residents who have come out in numbers, to be a part of our meetings. While you may not always get your way, you will always get your say.

COMMUNITY POLICE Below is the card for our Community Police officer, James Gatti. Please note his cell phone number 727-244-1715 and add it to your contacts. His reminder this month: ALWAYS lock your car doors!

CLUBHOUSE & GROUNDS Kevin Pilsbury

We have several projects underway and more upcoming. The new roof is halfway to it’s completion. The new tiles are on order and should be in place by about June 15th. PLEASE NOTE: the exact date of tile delivery is not known at this time. Please do NOT attempt to enter the Clubhouse during the tile delivery. Sorry if this causes a disruption but your safety is most important!

The pool has been changed to “cooling” and clean-up to the vinyl fencing and pavers will be soon underway. Next is the landscaping and shuffleboard repairs. Then after that, the Clubhouse inte-rior…..the fun never stops.

Take note of the new chairs in the Club-house! These were ordered by the Social Club and paid for from proceeds from events and advertising revenue.

BEAR CREATIONS Kathy Bortscheller

Bear Creations has been a very successful venture taken on by Unit 5, and will continue again in the fall.

BEAR CREATIONS will NOT be meeting at the clubhouse during June, July or August. We will start up again the 4th Monday in September.

We also will give cancer bears to anyone in Mainlands, friends, or relatives that need a bear. Just give me a call.

I wish to thank all the volunteers who make this project a success!

Any questions call me at 217-9217.

NEW SUPPORT GROUP Diane Johnson The Hope Team had their first meeting in April and it was decided the group would have two goals:

1. Assist current caregivers (we are still working to finalize ways we can do so).

2. Provide support & friendship to those who have lost their spouse or partner.

We need additional team members and would appreciate your help!

Please contact Diane Martin-Johnson at 813-760-6125 for further information and to learn about the next meeting (we cur-rently plan to get together once a month).

LAWN UPDATE Esther Lehmkuhl

This is the current sprin-kler schedule for all of Unit Five sprinklers. Please know as our weather changes so will the sched-

ule. Lately the rains have allowed us to turn off the sprinklers if we get over .5 inch of rain. Depending on the day it rains will depend on which cycle is turned off.

Remember different zones come on different times.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning Friday night into Saturday morning Sunday night into Monday morning

We now have a lawn maintenance com-pany that has been very quick to address any lawn complaints. In the past the procedure was to call the Property Management Office to ensure a Complaint Form was completed and documented because we had a lot of complaints that were not being ad-dressed. The new lawn maintenance company prefers to address any lawn problems immediately when they are on site, Fridays.

If you have a lawn issue on Fridays you can call or text me directly (727-504-0093). I can come look at the issue and handle it with Matthew’s almost immedi-ately.

If you prefer you can call a complaint into the Property Management Office but it’s not addressed as quickly.

(continued next column)

In the event of an emergency situa-tion on the weekend, call the Property Management Office, 573-5670, let the recorded message go ALL THE WAY TO THE END, ignore press 1, press 2… when you get to the very end of the message it gives you the ability to speak with the “weekend on call” mainte-nance employee. Remember, let the entire message play to the end.

Hope this is helpful if you ever need emergency assistance on the weekend; sprinklers continually running, broken sprinkler pipes, water main issues, etc.

YOGA Kathy Bortscheller

There will be NO yoga during the sum-mer months of June, July, or August.

It will start up again on Wed., Sept 4th. All those interested are welcome. We meet at the clubhouse from 2pm-3pm on Wed. A mat and a blanket to roll up will be helpful for the exercising.

Now that I am older and I don’t have any predetermined vacation time, I look back fondly on the days where I knew what I would be doing between June and August…... nothing. Be careful...It is summer and hot already….Reading while you sunbathe makes you “well red”.

What did one beach say to the other beach? Nothing, they just waved. I am shore you understand.

HURRICANE SEASON Esther Lehmkuhl

Hurricane season is almost upon us. For those of you new to the area hurricane season is June 1st thru Nov. 30th. Living in Florida it’s not “if” we get a hurricane, it’s “when”. Being prepared is the best way to survive the power outages and any other inconveniences mother nature throws our way. Please see the list I’ve provided to help you plan ahead. Start now, add to it slowly. Over a period of time you will put together a nice assortment of items to help keep you safe. If you are from the North you will see many items are similar to your blizzard supplies (except for that dang snow shovel and mittens!). Common sense is the most important when preparing for hurricane season. Start preparing early and you will be ready for anything that should try to come our way.

Our Clubhouse is NOT a Hurricane Shelter

Items to store in a water tight Hurricane Supplies container:

Cash Flashlight / Lanterns / Extra batteries First aid supplies / Medications / Alcohol / Aspirin / Benadryl / Antibiotic creams / Sunscreen Travel size personal hygiene items: Toothbrush/toothpaste, Soap, Handi-wipes, Hand sanitizer Toilet paper At least 3-7 days of non-perishable foods & water (Tuna, Veggies/Fruit, Peanut butter, Cereal, Soup)

Manual can opener / Disposable eating utensils & plates / Aluminum foil / Paper towels Change of clothing / Dry socks and extra pair of sturdy shoes / Hat Weather alert radio with extra batteries in event power goes out Whistle (to catch attention of first responders) Cyalume sticks – will help catch attention of first responders Reading material / Cards / Pens / Pencils / Writing paper Cell phone charger / Extra cell phone battery Waterproof matches or Bic lighters Glasses / Sunscreen

Other items to have on hand: Emergency contact list Generator / Gas Pet food / Litter / Pet toys / Leash / Cage / Pet medications / License / Rabies documentation Empty 5 gallon bucket / Plastic Trash bags to fit (portable toilet in the event sewer problems) Bug spray Fire Extinguisher Bleach / Mop Shovel / Tools / Leather gloves Rope / Duct tape / Plastic tarps Grill / Propane (DO NOT STORE IN GARAGE!!) Water Bob (Plastic storage container that fits inside tub and holds water). Tub drains leak!

Tips for Hurricane Preparedness:

Put all important documents (insurance paperwork including Flood, Medical, House, Registra-tions, Leases / Rental agreements, Auto, Deeds, Titles, USB drives, CDs or DVDs) in safe de-posit box or large zip lock plastic storage bags. Secure outdoor furniture / Bring in umbrellas / Take down wind chimes /Put plants / planters / Lawn ornaments in garage or house. Turn off propane tanks and other utilities. Put hoses / solar lights in garage. Know how to release garage door opener to open garage door manually if power goes out.
