Project Benefits • Saves East Side-bound commuters from Queens and Long
Island 30 to 40 minutes per day
• Provides a one seat ride for 162,000 passengers per day
• Improves conditions for commuters at Penn Station
• Reduces crowding on Penn Station area subways
• Supports job growth in area surrounding Grand Central Terminal
• Increases East River tunnel capacity by over 50%
• Improves operational flexibility through Harold Interlocking (Amtrak, LIRR, New Jersey Transit)
• Improves access to JFK airport

• In 1983, Metro-North Railroad was founded and assumed some of the passenger operations of the struggling Conrail
• MNR ridership has more than doubled since then
• Penn Access is the railroad’s first major expansion
• The New Metro-North Service will run on the Amtrak Hell Gate Line
• 4 New Stations in the Bronx
