2016 Internationaltuition fees
International tuition fees are detailed on the courseinformation pages of this prospectus. Te notes below providefurther explanatory information on how tuition fees arecharged and important policies associated with these fees.
1 All fees are inclusive of GST (New Zealand Goods andServices Tax).
2 Tuition fees do not include the student services fee. Pleasesee p.24 for further information.
3 Tuition fees do not include any of the University’sadministrative charges.
2016 administrative fees will be set in late 2015;
please see www.otago.ac.nz/study/fees
4 Te tuition fees detailed on pages 1-22 provide anestimate of costs for 2016. Te tuition fees listed maynot represent the actual cost of a programme of study.Generally, a student’s total tuition is made up of thecollective fees for each paper for which the studentis enrolled. Te subject category fee (as listed in thisschedule) and the EFTS (funding equation) value willdetermine the fee of any paper. Te actual programme feewill be aἀected by:
• the enrolment for more or less than 1 EFT (a normalfull-time course)
• the inclusion of papers from dierent subject areas(which are at diἀerent fee rates)
• the sequencing of enrolment in papers withinthe course
• a change to the structure of the course and theavailability of papers.
5 Tuition fees are assessed each year. Te fee categories areapplicable only to the calendar year (January-December)in which the course is commenced. If a course of studyextends for one or more semesters in a subsequentcalendar year(s), the students will be required to pay thetuition fee applicable for that calendar year(s). Annual fee
increases (or decreases) are expected to be modest. Undercurrent circumstances this would be in the order of up to5% per annum.
6 An orientation programme will be held before enrolment.Tere will be no extra charge for participation in thisprogramme.
7 Costs for some course materials, field trips and thesispublication are not included in the quoted fees.
8 Te following students are normally eligible to enrol atthe University of Otago under the same conditions asNew Zealand students and at the same level of fees:
• Australian citizens and permanent residents ofAustralia residing and studying in New Zealand forthe duration of their courses of study
• Citizens of the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau whoare New Zealand citizens.
Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia
residing and studying outside New Zealand are requiredto pay full-cost international fees.
9 Students who have been granted study awards orscholarships by Rotary International, CommonwealthScholarship Scheme, Fulbright Awards, or DAAD payequivalent New Zealand fees only.
10 Most PhD and certain other doctoral students enrollingat a New Zealand university are eligible to pay tuition feesat the New Zealand domestic level. International doctoralstudents must be resident in New Zealand during theirstudies, apart from approved temporary absences overseasfor the purposes of doctoral research, to be classified as
domestic students. As a guide, the table on the next pageprovides 2015 domestic tuition rates.
11 Postgraduate fees for 2016 reflect a level of subsidy fromthe University in recognition of the valuable contributionthat is made by postgraduate students to Universityresearch.
