Hello spring! The trees are starting to bud and my daffo-dils may have survived our last cold snap! Welcome back, snow birds! I hope you all have a chance to attend our April events. The natural beauty of Camden County has awed and inspired visitors for 200 years since early American explorers first set foot in the region. Old Kinder-hook, a centerpiece of all that lake life offers in mid-Missouri, shares its name with a moniker bestowed on Martin Van Buren, the na-tion's eighth presi-dent. Its appeal has endured two centu-ries of change, first as a cattle ranch that would attract settlers to relish its natural splendor with church services, picnics, games and fishing on Sundays. Then it emerged as a spectacular setting at the heart of the state’s larg-est lake in 1931. Today, Old Kinderhook is a year-round attraction for visitors and a year-round home to those who can't resist its appeal. It is also host to the Newcomers Longtimers 25th anni-versary Home Tour on Saturday, May 18. This year's tour will include 7 homes, plus a bonus villa owned by Old Kinder-hook. Two of the homes, or cottages, are all on one level in consideration of the home tour patrons who would pre-fer not to climb stairs to a second or even third level.

It truly does take a group of enterpris-ing and dedicated women (and their spouses) to make the home tour a real-

ity. If you have not yet volunteered to work the home tour, please do so and be part of this proud tradi-tion for our 25th anniversary. We only need a few hours of your time and as those who volunteer

every year will tell you, the home tour is both a bonding and worth-while experience. If you cannot work the day of the home tour, please sign your name to the platinum circle for just $25. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Claudia Thomas at 319-329-0880. She is sitting by the phone waiting for your call. If you would like to sign the plati-num circle please contact Mary von Hoff at 573-280-4805.

Pastimes-Travel-Crafting-Nascar & Ancestry.com TRAVEL--see the USA & beyond was

always on my life long bucket list.

Loving the southwest we originally bought in the Sandia foothills of Placitas, New

Mexico in 1995 that was expected to be our "Retirement Home". We had the thought

of “no, we don't want to live where it snows a lot.” After several starts and stops we

both retired in 2009. In 2013 our vacation to Dallas TX, we saw so much green grass

and water. John still had living on the water on his bucket list. So we got a realtor and

started making offers but fortunately we were outbid. I said "just find us a place at

Lake of the Ozarks" By that next evening we had placed an offer "sight unseen" for our

current home from an online listing.

So we re-retired to beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. We literally count our blessings every

day that we chose this path. This lake area is all about the best of our good old USA

and the best of our people. Life on the lake is good even though l don't swim. But I

spend more time than John does on the dock fishing. Love watching soap operas,

playing solitaire and entertaining family and friends at the bar plus yelling at the TV

when Kyle Busch-Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr crash each other. Now my favorites are

Chase Elliott and Austin Dillon.

Hello, my name is Renee Bounds. My husband and I moved to Osage Beach full

time June 2018. We left our country life in St. Joseph, MO, with horses, cows,

chickens, dogs, cats and gardens for a much simpler way of life at the lake. Besides

shopping (my favorite pastime), I enjoy golfing, fishing, movies, reading, picnics

and time in the kitchen creating new dishes. I also love to play and teach Mah

Jongg. I’m grateful to call Lake of the Ozarks my home.

40 ladies met on March 21st at Camden on the Lake for a lovely lunch. Our charity, The Stop

Human Trafficking Coalition’s president, Chris Gansemer, gave a heart-felt message on hu-

man trafficking and provided us with flyers and information on their effort to bring aware-

ness to the lake. Their fundraiser, Taste of the Lake on April 10, will help them raise money

for the purchase of a safe house.

The ever popular April luncheon at Ozark Yacht club on April 18 is fast approaching. This year’s style show will not dis-

appoint, so put the date on your calendar. The charity of the month is Lake Ozark Idiot’s Club, whose mission is to help

underprivileged youth at the lake. They also have a fund raiser kick-off on April 27 at La Roca.

April Ladies Luncheon & Style Show at Ozark Yacht Club!

Tired of winter clothes? Come to our Annual Fashion Show Lunch-

eon on Thursday, April 18 at the Ozark Yacht Club. Eight boutiques

will be showing us Spring and Summer fashions! It’s going to be a

fun event, so don’t miss it!

It’s also not too late to volunteer to model in the Fashion Show!

We are still looking for a few members to step up and help out!

Please call Donna Hamilton at 402-830-3693 or email

Hope to see you there!

Community Awareness

Our charity for March was Lake of the Ozarks Stop Human Trafficking Coalition. Chris Gransmer, their new president

spoke at our luncheon meeting at Camden on the Lake Resort. The Coalition is a volunteer organization working collab-

oratively to increase awareness, identify causes, and support victims of trafficking. It fights forced labor and commer-

cial sex exploitation in the Lake area. https://www.facebook.com/stophumantraffickinglozsharing. We were able to

present Chris a check for $271.00 from Newcomers Longtimers’ various raffles.

Our March luncheon meeting raffle raised $171.00. After raffling off three enve-

lopes of $15 each, $126 went to the Coalition along with Dining Out’s $90 from

their raffle at Red Head Yacht Club and Cards & Games raffle contribution of $55.

Our April charity of the month is Lake of the Ozarks Idiots Club, Inc. Denny and

Danna Hiner founded The Lake of the Ozarks Idiots Club, a 501(c)3 charity. The

Charity’s mission statement is: The Jesters of Goodwill dedicated to helping

youth in-need in the Lake area. The primary goal is to improve the self-esteem of

in-need children by providing basic needs and making it possible for them to par-

ticipate in school or community activities. www.LakeoftheOzarksIdiotsClub.org

envelopes of cash to the lucky winners.
