Last week, I emailed a copy of the Melbourne Declaration on Education Goals for Young Australians which outlines many of the skills and qualities that students may need moving into the future. In coming weeks we will be hosting some community consultation sessions at school as well as engaging our community through some brief online surveys. More details about these sessions will be released shortly. However, in the meantime consider your answer to these questions. As successful learners, what skills will a student leaving Newport in 2020 need? What attributes will our students need to ensure they are confident and creative individuals? Boys Vocal Workshop Last Monday, 4 Year 5 members of the Senior Choir, Finbar, Daniel, Edward and Tyger, attended a boys vocal workshop at Neutral Bay P.S. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day, particularly singing cool songs like Happy, Solid Rock and Mad World, in a large choir. Another favourite activity was learning about Nelson Mandela and singing, with beautiful harmonies, the special song - Rol Hla Hla Mandela! A report, written by Edward about the day is included later in the Natter. State Drama Festival Tomorrow, KAJ and KJP will be participating in the State Drama Festival at the Seymour Centre. Mrs Parker and Miss Jeffrey have worked very hard with both classes and we thank them for their efforts. We wish the students the best of luck. Helpers’ Morning Tea The Newport staff are holding their annual Helpers’ Morning Tea on Tuesday 25 th November at 11am. We value the enormous contribution all our volunteers make to our school and anyone who has been a volunteer in our school this year is invited to come along. Keep the morning free. We look forward to seeing you there. Girls Softball Knock Out Next Tuesday, the Senior Girls Softball team travel north to Brunswick Heads to play in the next round of the PSSA State Knockout Softball competition. We wish them luck for this long trip and we know they will represent Newport beautifully. Are You Leaving Us? At this time of year we are well into our planning for 2015. We would appreciate knowing if your child/children will not be returning to Newport PS in 2015. This information is important for our class organisation and staffing for next year. We also need to know if your child/children are returning to Newport after the start of the 2015 school year. I require a short note to confirm that they will be returning and on what day so they can still be counted in our enrolment numbers and placed in their 2015 class. Please send the information to the office. Warm regards, Anthony Moran Relieving Principal

Shane Clements Boys Singing Workshop

Last Monday, instead of walking to school, I took a bus to Neutral Bay Public School to take part in a

boys singing workshop. When I got there I met up with Daniel, Finbar and Tyger, the other boys from

our school who went. There were over 100 boys from other schools around North Sydney. Peter

Lehner, who is a musician, conductor, actor and performer, ran the workshop. Peter Lehner has

conducted lots of workshops in New South Wales and has been on the TV show: Home and Away. We

were lucky to have Peter teaching us, as he has worked with famous singers, including Delta Goodrem.

In the workshop we sang (high, mid, low). MY favourite song was ‘Mad World’. I really enjoy singing

and Peter helped us learn singing exercises. We all had a great time at the workshop. Thank you to

Mrs Gutherson and Mrs Green for organising us going there.

AVALON BILGOLA SWIM CLUB

Hello Everyone,

If you are looking for something to do this Summer on a Saturday morning that is fairly laid back

and involves the whole family, then please come down and have a swim at Bilgola Ocean Pool.

We have a weekly swim for kids and adults, not sure who has more fun as the adults pretend they

are not serious. All races are handicapped, so that the same swimmers do not always win, yet it

pushes everyone to swim a better time - over a season expect a 10% decrease in your handicap.

For kids it is a good platform for school swim carnivals and the surf club as we have lots of kids who

do Nippers and by the time they get to do surf races they are stronger swimmers. Best of all it is a

lot of fun, relaxed and over in two hours and cheap at $30 each (kids and adults) for the season,

and you get three weeks trial to see if you like it before you have to register.

We have 10 weeks of swim coaching that is free for both kids and adults, for those who cannot

swim through to those who want to give the school carnival a crack this year.

Check out the website www.avalonbilgolaswimming.asn.au
