Are you tired of not being in the
loop about smartphones? There are mul-
tiple smartphones on the market but this
article describes three of them. It will
describe their features as well.
The latest smartphone is the iPh-
one 6. It is not only the biggest iPhone,
but it is also the lightest.
There are two versions to the
iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 which
is 6.9 mm and the iPhone 6
Plus is 7.1mm and it can bend.
Both versions come in a varie-
ty of colors that include silver,
gold, and space grey. The iPhone cam-
era is better than any other camera. Ap-
ple made the latest iPhone capable of
shooting slow motion videos. You can
even watch what you filmed in high defi-
nition (HD.) Apple featured I0S 8 on the
new iPhone, and with that you can use
Siri.. The prices can range from $199 to
$399. It depends on how much storage
you want. You can get two different cas-
es for the iPhone 6. One case is the sili-
cone case. It comes in black, blue, pink,
green, white, and red. Another case is
the leather case. It comes in black, light
brown, dark brown, dark blue, and red.
Apple put a finger print scanner on the
iPhone. It is called ID touch. When you
purchase an app, you won’t have to put
your password in anymore thanks to the
ID Touch.
The next phone on the list is the
Samsung Galaxy S5. There are many dif-
ferent colors you can get the Samsung
in, including charcoal black, shimmery
white, copper gold, and electric blue. Is
there a bad light in your way when tak-
ing pictures? Well, no more of that.
With the Samsung camera, if you
hit a certain button, the image
will be lit up. With the faster auto
focus, you can take action pic-
tures. With selective focus, you
can blur out the background and
have your portrait clear. You can
make your Samsung go into ultra-
power saver mode. It turns your
phone screen black and white. It
will also shut down all unneces-
sary features. It is also
water and dust re-
sistant. The Samsung is
the first smartphone
that can read your
heart rate.
The next Smartphone is the
HTC One M8. The phone is made
out of aluminum. It comes in sil-
ver, gold, blue, white, pink,
black, and red. The phone is 90%
metal. You can turn your TV on
and off with it. The phone is slip-
pery, so it’s hard to hold. The
camera is duel wield which
means two cameras are availa-
ble. You can take pictures really
fast with it. You can change the
lighting on it. With the U focus, it
will blur the background. If the
background is blurry already, it
won’t work. The speakers are on
the top and the bottom of the
phone. If you double tap the
phone, it will turn on. If you scroll
up, it will go where you were last.
The HTC One M8 also has a long
l a s t i n g b a t t e r y . W h i c h
smartphone will you choose? Will
you go with the iPhone 6, the
Samsung Galaxy S5, or will you
chose the HTC One M8?

Try It! Have you ever heard of pitaya (A.K.A dragon fruit)? No? This may
be the first time you have ever heard of this crazy cactus. Dragon fruit
is native to Central America. According to the Aztec literature, dragon
fruit goes back to the 13th century in Vietnam. To eat the fruit, you must
peel the skin and eat the inside. Dragon fruit has a sweet taste and is
appealing to the eye. If you don’t believe me, then try it!

On September
21st, the Broncos trav-
eled to Seattle to, as
what football fans are
saying, the Super Bowl
rematch. Both teams
ended up going into
overtime with a score
of 20-20. Russell Wil-
son’s final play was a
hand off to Marshawn
Lynch for the winning
touchdown. The final
score was 20-26 with
the Seahawks for the
win.
Many Broncos’
fans are saying that
the overtime rule
should be changed so
that both teams have
the ball. The current
rule is only one team
gets to have the ball
unless they don’t score
a touchdown or make
a field goal. If this hap-
pens, the other team
gets a chance to score.
Once one team scores
the game will end.
There are many dif-
ferent opinions on the
game between the Sea-
hawk’s and Bronco’s fans.
Mrs. Vescio explains, ”The
overtime rule isn’t fair. I
believe that Peyton would
have been able to get his
team another touchdown if
they could have gotten the
ball. Even though the Bron-
cos lost, Peyton Manning
did a great job making a
comeback.” Tanner S. said
that Russell Wilson did a
great job at keeping his
team going, but he should
have given the ball to
Lynch more. Also, he
thought that the first snap
Peyton Manning had was
ironic because of the first
snap disaster in the super
bowl. Hayden S. men-
tioned, “Peyton did a good
job making a comeback,
but he is getting too old for
the NFL. He should retire
before he gets hurt.” Many
of the 4th and 5th graders
thought that the game was
great, and they like Mar-
shawn’s super dive to get
the final touchdown. Both
teams played their hardest,
but mistakes will always af-
fect the outcome.

Leggings and Shorts, Yay or Nay? by Tyree
Deciding whether or not
girls should be allowed to
wear leggings and shorts
has been a very popular
topic at Weston Middle
School (WMS). Leggings first
made their appearance in
the 1980’s. Leggings disap-
peared for a while, and then
came back in 2006. Leg-
gings are typically made of
lycra, or spandex which
makes them very form fitting
on people. Girls were allowed to wear
leggings for most of last school year, but
three-fourths of the way into the year
they were banned. Leggings were
banned from WMS because they are too
tight and distracting. Shorts are not
banned, but they have to be at least four
inches from the knee when bending
down on your knees. Mrs. Surber, our
school secretary, told us that, “If the
shorts are shorter than what the dress
code states, then they are too distracting
to be worn at school.”
Twelve out of twelve people inter-
viewed said that leggings and shorts
should be allowed to wear at school. Dyl-
an C. said that, “Girls should be able to
wear leggings and shorts to school be-
cause males focus on females no matter
what they wear.” Christal F. told us, “That
if leggings and shorts are what girls want
to wear than they should be able to wear
what they choose.” Many people
interviewed said that if you are
having a rough day or just a la-
zy day, than leggings are the
most comfortable choice of
clothing to wear. Dannella B.
says, “It’s not harming anyone
to wear leggings and shorts to
school.” Jesse E. said,
“Leggings don’t show any skin
or body parts, so leggings
should be allowed to be worn
at school.”
Irrigon Middle School allows students
to wear leggings and shorts at school as
long as the leggings have a shirt that
goes down to mid-thigh and the shorts
are also mid-thigh. Stanfield Middle
School (SMS) allows students to wear leg-
gings to school, as long as they fit proper-
ly. Shorts are allowed at SMS as long as
the shorts are four inches above the knee
when kneeling down. Heppner Middle
School (HMS) allows students to wear
shorts a long as they are no shorter than
six inches above the knee cap.
When deciding what to wear in the
morning, here’s a quick tip: If you are un-
sure of your
outfit choice,
don’t wear it!
Save the leg-
gings and
shorts for the
weekend.

Mr. Funderburk has been selected as male faculty of the month.
He teaches at both Weston Middle School and Athena Elemen-
tary School and juggles his schedule very well. This year Mr.
Funderburk has put a lot of time and effort into coming up with
fun, creative ideas for his elective classes. Keep up the good
work!
Mrs. Vescio has been chosen as female faculty of the month. This
summer she spent a lot of time organizing different parts of the
school and has been helping prepare for the school’s garage
sale. Mrs. Vescio also uses great tools and techniques to teach
her students. What a great learning environment for her stu-
dents!

Making Friends Making new friends can be as easy as pie! If you are shy and don't know
how to meet new people, these helpful tips should help. Step1: Sit by new people;
at least two or three. Also, open up to others. Step 2: Find things in common with
them and start a conversation. Step 3: Hangout with those people, you don’t have
to hang out with them every day of your life, but try to keep in contact with them.
Step 4: When you become friends, you need to be honest, trustworthy, and most
of all, you need to be a good listener. Hear out what your friends have to say, and
don't blab their secrets. Having a friendship is a big commitment, and you’ll have
your ups and downs, but you’ll always be friends through all the hardships.

A Friendly Scare by Kamryn
Volume 7, Issue 1 Page 15
Have you ever wondered what most kids like about Halloween? Well,
some kids like the part of Halloween that lets them be creative and dress how-
ever they want. The other kids like to eat all their candy
after they go out and collect. This story was written based
on three questions that fourth and fifth graders answered
based on their fears and positive thoughts about Halloween.
There was a girl named Mi-
kasa that liked going out on
Halloween because she got
to collect candy and dress up
as anything she wanted. A
couple years ago, she went
out as a baboon, then the
next year she went as a ba-
nana and this last year she
went as a ninja. When she
went trick-or-treating, she
went with her friends Hei-
choo, Aleksander, and Hec-
tor. They all decided to go
and scare little kids. They
planned their whole night
from getting candy to com-
ing home. Then they left for
the night..
This year the kids going
were afraid of a couple of
things. The things they were
scared of the most were
clowns, The Texas Chainsaw
Massacre, Aleksander's fa-
ther, and The Grimm Reaper.
While they were walking
around getting their candy,
there was a clown so Hector,
the one that was afraid of
clowns, had to attempt to
avoid the clown.
A Friendly Scare
But the clown saw him hiding
and went after him. Meanwhile,
the other kids kept walking.
While they were on their way to
the next block, they ran into The
Chainsaw Massacre so Heichoo
ran almost as fast as a cheetah.
Then Alexander saw his dad walk-
ing around with his little siblings
so he tried as hard as he could to
blend in with his surroundings.
But his father saw him, so he had
to walk with him for the rest of
the night. The only one walking
was Mikasa and The Grimm Reap-
er walked up right behind her and
said hello in his deepest and
creepiest voice. Mikasa
started to walk away but when
she stepped back she was up
against the wall so she was cor-
nered. The Grimm Reaper started
to walk closer while she started to
shake. He got closer and closer
and Mikasa started to scream
louder and louder. Then the
Grimm Reaper started to touch
her but then she kicked him in
the shin and ran. She looked
back but he wasn't where she
last saw him.
She stopped to take
a closer look, then she
turned back around and
started to walk away. Then
she heard something that
made her tremble with
fear. There was something
around the corner, so Mi-
kasa looked around it and
there was The Grimm
Reaper. Mikasa started to
scream, and then all of her
friends jumped out of the
costume and scared her.
All the kids went home and
had a good laugh while the
three friends explained
their plan. Then they all
ate candy and had time to
plan for next year, but this
time "no one" will be
scared
