The Group Perspective

As we approach the end of 2011 it is now appropriate to reflect on the achievements of and challenges faced by the CR Asia Group in 2011.

The Group reached its 20th anniversary in 2011 a significant milestone which I hope to celebrate with you all at the New Year parties at year end.

From a financial perspective 2011 came on the back of two record years of performance for the company and although we have faced significant challenges during the year in a number of businesses the end of year financial result is forecast to show another very successful overall result for the Group in terms of revenue and profitability.

During the year our business was impacted significantly by customers deferring large projects in India and Singapore and by the rebuilding of the Malaysian business. We are also facing increased competition in many of our markets requiring that we become more focused in our marketing efforts and more effective and efficient in delivery of our projects. The business in Thailand is poised to deliver its best year ever in 2011 on

the back of successfully delivering a number of large complex shutdowns and high levels of activity through the business. I wish to extend my thanks to the entire team in Thailand for a job well done.

The Malaysian team has done a great job of setting up the new office and workshop whilst keeping the business running and delivering major projects such as the Petronas Kerteh change out and the Shell MDS project.

The business completed many significant projects to date in 2011 for clients such as PTT, Shell, ExxonMobil, Bayer, SRC, CSPC, Reliance, Essar, IOCL and many others. During 2011 we implemented the following business initiatives:

Implemented the 5 year strategic plan for the business Expanded the offshore business for the Group Rebuilt the Malaysia business Increased our investment in new capital equipment to the highest level in many years Reviewed a number of new growth opportunities for the business Developed the CR Asia supervisor training program for roll out through the group Implemented the Exact system in Bangkok, Malaysia and Singapore Implemented the registered operating headquarters in Thailand Implemented new Group wide insurance programs

The Group moves toward 2012 with significant optimism and

opportunities to build on our current solid foundation.

We have a number of significant projects that were deferred from 2011 which will positively impact our results in 2012. Whilst our safety performance has improved in 2011 our current total recordable injury frequency rate is excellent at 0.88 there is still a need for vigilance as we have incurred 2 lost time injuries and 6 medical treatment injuries to July. The ongoing roll out of the CR Zero Harm campaign continued throughout 2011 and is having a positive impact through the business.

I strongly urge you all to continue to focus on safety in everything you do, please remember we are all responsible for ensuring a safe workplace for ourselves and work mates. To this end we must put think safety first, last and always. Once again I want to say thank you for your efforts in 2011 and look forward to a great year in 2012.

CR China completes

CRAC, with technical assistance of CRAS, have completed a catalyst skimming and spent catalyst conditioning job of two phenol reactors at the Bayer Material Science "Makrolon" facility in SCIP, Shanghai, China. The job was for two reactors, the first one was handled in March and the second one in August 2011.

The scope of work included the skimming of the reactor by vacuuming from the top. The phenol-rich catalyst is loaded into a specially designed cyclone. The cyclone is fitted with chemical cleaning connections and screens so that the catalyst can be washed by circulation. The screens prevent the catalyst from entering the chemical-flow. The chemical cleaning circuits were equipped with reverse-flow manifolds in order to free the screens of accumulated catalyst by back-flushing in case of clogging.

After sufficient washing the wet catalyst is dumped into a catalyst collection bin. The catalyst collection bin is equipped with a double floor and again contains a screen. This allows for the chemical solution to be pumped-back into chemical circulation tanks.

When the collection bin is full, the dry catalyst is loaded into one of the CRAC vacuum trucks and transported to an incineration facility for final disposal. The chemical circulation tanks as well as the catalyst collection bin are equipped with a rigid cover and tarpaulin cover. An air-propelled ejector system leads

all fumes to a gas-washer and activated carbon filter. The spent chemicals are collected in ISO tankers and properly disposed of.

The chemical mixture used to release the phenol from the catalyst is an aqueous caustic solution using WVT's O-Scent SVC. The O-Scent SCV is initially used for reducing the dissolved phenol in the washing water. The O-Scent SCV proves to be a very beneficial surfactant which had to cope with an unexpected tarry substance appearing during catalyst washing.

As this was the first time this concept was used, the initial operation was full of challenges. Phenol concentrations and catalyst

grain-size were not as initially expected. This called for some major design changes and improvements. The activity on the second reactor finished well ahead of schedule and without any material failure, accident, incident or first-aid case.

In order to increase the productivity standard of DDT projects in Malaysia and to foster a better working relationship between CRAS and CRAM personnel, CRAS initiated a four days DDT training course in Singapore for two of CRAM's most hard working supervisors (Suhaiful Othman and Mohd Zukeri).

During the four days of training in August, they were trained on; what is the role of supervisor; how the DDT machines work; how the whole pigging process works; Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis; how to prepare the machine for a project; how to maintain the equipment after the project; practical handling of pigging pump with the testing loop(this will give them some basic

knowledge of how to run the pigs on the project; how the Waterous pump works and how to maintain it. The training was conducted by Elvin and Goh from CRAS together with Barry from Waterous Company.

On the last day of the course they also attended our Oil/Petrochemical Safety Orientation Course. With this

CR Asia Malaysia has officially moved to its brand new facilities located at Teluk Kalong, Kemaman, Terengganu in August 2011. The location was selected after exhaustive months of searching and Teluk Kalong was selected as being the best centre for the oil & gas hub in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The new CRAM Kemaman facility is situated in the Kemaman oil & gas industrial estate with Kemaman Offshore Supply Base just 5 km to the east, 36 km south of Kerteh and 38 km north of Gebeng.

The 3200 m2 area is boosted with 388 m2 office space, 72 m2 purpose-built stores and 220 m2 workshop areas, a marked improvement on the facilities compared to the previous CRAM in Gebeng. With the increase of open space area, CRAM is now able to properly lay-down its plant

and equipment to better service its clients and to the industry.

The layout of CRAM Kemaman facilities was designed by CR's own personnel and the new facilities took just 6 weeks for the renovation to be completed.

After 10 good years in Gebeng, CRAM can now look forward and proudly call Kemaman as home for years to come. The official opening of the CRAM Kemaman facility is planned later in the year.

certificate, they will be able to work in Singapore refineries if their service is needed there. Both Suhaiful and Zukeri were very glad to have this opportunity to attend this DDT training. With this transfer of knowledge, they will be able to liaise/perform more efficiently with CRAS supervisors on the execution and preparation of pigging projects and the pigging machine respectively.

On behalf of DDT Division, I wish them well.

CRAS recently performed chemical cleaning of a "Packinox" Combined Feed/Effluent Heat Exchanger at Petron Bataan Refinery. This particular Packinox is part of the CCR unit and the first one cleaned under the banner of CR Asia Singapore. Although CRAS has been involved in many catalyst handling jobs for CCR's, cleaning of the feed/effluent heat exchanger has never been part of the package. Every CCR has a feed/effluent heat exchanger but they go in mainly two configurations; the Packinox and the Texas tower. The Texas tower is a tubular heat exchanger and the Packinox - an Alva Laval product - is a welded plate-type heat exchanger.

The Packinox is a very vulnerable piece of equipment as over pressuring the effluent side can cause heavy damage in a matter of seconds. The vendor therefore is very much concerned and involved in the method of circulation and the type of chemicals used.

Petron informed CRAS that chemical cleaning was to be aimed on removal of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons; PAH. In close cooperation with our long-time

chemical supply partner WVT Industries from Belgium, the perfect product for this type of cleaning was chosen. The product, C-Clean Bio, is based on D-limonene. The raw material is retrieved from orange-peelings. It is a natural occurring turpentine. Next time you peel an orange, take the skin and squeeze it. The liquid originating from the skin is D-limonene but take care, as it is flammable.

Indeed the C-Clean Bio solution did a good job on removal of hydrocarbons but much to everyone's surprise a large amount of magnetite was also released in the form of magnetic black fines. The Alva Laval representative commented that he had never seen this quantity of pollution released from a Packinox.

For this job our Pakistani crew of five came over assisted by two CRAM technicians from Malaysia. An international crew consisting of Pakistani, Malaysian, Filipino and Dutch nationals worked in harmony in rainy Bataan in the Philippines. Thanks to the excellent equipment preparation by the CRAS store team - and the perfect logistics from our agent (LOMAR) the job went smoothly.

CR Asia Malaysia was invited once again to the Industrial Roadshow in Malaysia by Orange Media. Following the success of the first event - this time the venue chosen was the MS Garden Hotel in Kuantan. The CRAM team was ably

supported by CRAS Industrial Cleaning Manager - Harry Vandermeer - who presented a paper on Heat Exchanger Cleaning at one of the seminars. CRAM will participate in the next event which will be held in Bintulu, East Malaysia on 10-12 May 2012.

The SMDS PTA 2011 was a major investment in the life of Shell MDS, Bintulu - East Malaysia, The whole PTA mainly focused on inspecting the condition of most of their pressure equipment on the plant, servicing and recertifying equipment, major maintenance work which involved many high risks and hazards to why Shell appointed key skill companies to perform the works, hence the specialist services and expertise from CR Asia and Mourik to perform the catalyst replacement on Reactors R - 3021 / 41.

For one month working round the clock with 2 specialised teams from CR Asia and the Mourik Tubular Division they provided their expertise and specialised equipment to perform the internal servicing of two of the HPS Reactors on Block 3. The heart of Shell MDS technology is the (HPS) Heavy Paraffin Synthesis process. Here the synthesis gas is converted into high-value synthetic paraffin's via a reaction. The reaction can be modeled as a chain growth reaction of CO and hydrogen on the surface of the heterogeneous catalyst.

Shell MDS (Malaysia) is the owner and operator of the plant in Bintulu and the plant was the first of its kind in the world for the utilisation of alternative raw materials for the production of fuels and specialty chemicals. The Shell MDS process incorporates state-of-the-art safety, energy conservation and

environmental protection systems where CR Asia and Mourik were proud to be a part of maintaining Shell's high standards during this T/A. The plant itself is completely integrated such that the only incoming raw material is natural gas and the only outgoing waste products are water and flue gas, which are regulated by highly efficient waste water treatment and flare system respectively.

The PTA dashboard consisted of 4 key parameters namely, 1. Safety 2. Quality 3. Schedule and 4. Cost - and also securing the new CoF (Certificate of Fitness). This successful PTA would restore the SMDS manufacturing facility back to full health, together with the improved AIPS (Asset Integrity Process Safety) features, in which SMDS would achieve high plant reliability and availability post start-up until the next PTA. So it was imperative that everyone did their utmost to realise their aspiration, each and everyone had a defined role, everyone took pride of their involvement and executed the assigned tasks safely, efficiently and professionally.

The CR Asia/Mourik scope of works for the PTA was for the internal mechanical works and catalyst replacement of the two reactors, which involved removal of the catalyst support devices from the bottom tube-sheets, remove all sparger lines, hold down trays and gascaps in top dome of reactors, then to unload spent catalyst from the reactors' tubes by our skilled catalyst technicians operating highly efficient air lancing/vacuum techniques. (A combination of pressurised air and vacuum, where the catalyst particles are "loosened" with the pressurised air and vacuum removed to grade through to the constant discharge valve assembly

It has a direct effect on the catalyst life and reactor performance". Thus trained personnel, catalyst unloading equipment providing unmatched power and non-stop suction leading to state of the art loading machines c/w computerised loading panel so that each tube receives an equal amount of catalyst within the specified tolerances which ultimately achieved pressure drop measurements as per desired parameters. This measured and recorded up to eight readings simultaneously. The digital readings ensure accurate measurement and make progress control and the qualitative reporting possible. Pressure drop readings were taken to calculate

Values measured diagonally across 10% of the tubes, produced the basis for this calculation, to measure all of the tubes and where necessary correct to within the determined range, to calculate the mean value of the filled tubes and during the filling of the thermocouple tubes to achieve the calculated value as accurately as possible.

We would like to thank Shell MDS Bintulu for giving CR Asia/Mourik this opportunity to provide our specialised professional services, with special thanks to the Shell MDS PTA staff and to Mr Hendrik Vroegindeweij and his team of experts for their co-operation and unprecedented tubular knowledge. Finally, a special thanks to Mr David Cunningham, Shell PTA Manager for his contributions.

We look forward to returning to Shell MDS Bintulu along with the Mourik team in Feb 2012 to complete the second part of our contract for the catalyst replacement of the third tubular reactor - R-3023. The equipment has been left in Bintulu for that work.

Here's wishing Shell MDS Bintulu continued success in their converting natural gas to long chain paraffin's producing the quality chemical feedstock's and waxes as the past 18years of their production.
