What have we been doing? This week the children have learning all about how they
can use their listening skills and what are the different
sounds we hear in our environment. They made big
listening ears and went for a listening walk around the
school, listening for and naming different sounds. The
children also used the shakers they made to help in
counting out different patterns of taps and claps.
What’s Coming Up! This coming Sunday, the children will be entering the
next area of our topic: Looking Week. They will be
playing I Spy, using the power of observation to find
objects in the class based on clues given. They will also
be making play glasses to decorate. In Numeracy, the
children will be counting and using marks on paper to
find the total of groups of objects. Literacy will find the
children learning about books and drawing their versions
of the front covers. Parent Learning Mornings will take
place on Monday and Tuesday. The children are eager
to show their Mummies and Daddies what they have
learned so far!

Reminder: Please make sure to look in your
child’s blue communication folder for the
letter regarding Reading Eggs. It contains
your child’s login and password to enable
you to log in and use Reading Eggs at
home. Follow the directions, which will take you to the
map your child is currently working on as set by the
programme. Using Reading Eggs at home will ensure
continuity as we will also be working with it in class!
If you are still unsure after reading the directions for login,
we can arrange a workshop for parents. Please contact
your child’s teacher if you are interested.
Numeracy Activity:
You will need: small toys your child may have (blocks, cars, etc.) Clap your hands in a small pattern (three claps). Ask your child to tell you how many
claps they heard. Then have them count out the same amount of toys. Can they tell
you how many there are? Repeat with different numbers up to 5.
Have your child close their eyes and listen to this video on YouTube.
Ask them to identify the sounds they hear. No peeking!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6itvFbDyHAY
Literacy Activity:
You will need: Story book and paper
Together read or tell your child’s favourite story. Encourage your child to recall the
story back to you (Recall = remember the events of the story).
On a sheet of paper, ask your child to draw their favourite event or part of the story
(you may help).

Remember:
You should be guided by the pace at which your child wants to go.
If interest is being lost, leave the activities for a while and then come back to them lat-
er.
Do remember to give lots of praise and encouragement.
What did your child enjoy?
What does your child need more practice doing?
