As we all know, teachers end up spending a lot of their own money on supplies for the classroom. Many of the teach-

ers have wish lists and they are now posted online. You can get to it right from your phone when you are at the

store! I know that one of the things that many of the teachers use is colored card stock!

Here are the instructions to find your teacher’s list:

1. Go to teacherlists.com and enter our zip code, 50131

2. Choose Horizon Elementary

3. Click on your teacher's wish list

If there is something you would like to donate from the list, please click Pledge. You will be asked to create an ac-

count in order to make a pledge. If you do not want to create an account we understand, but it really helps keep

track of the items that have already been purchased.

Contact Angie Lenderts with questions at [email protected].

Walk-A-Thon

The Walk-A-Thon is Thursday, October 8! Many volunteers are needed for this event! Please click on this link to

sign up! http://vols.pt/FX61gC

This year we will be duct taping Mrs. Adair and our new principal, Mrs. Cornwell to the wall during the Walk-A-

Thon! If you collect $10 or more in donations, you will get a strip of duct tape to help stick them to the wall of the

school! If your student's classroom reaches their goal of $1,000 then the student in that class that raises the most

money will get to dump water on their teachers head at the end of the Walk-A-Thon! Students earn a ticket for

the raffle for every $25 they collect in donations! Remember there is no school Friday, the 25th! Forms must be

submitted with donations by the 24th to be eligible for prizes!!

Thanks to our awesome sponsors. Make sure to thank them if you are in their business for their support of Horizon!

T-Shirt Sponsors (Donation of $250): Bilbrey Insurance Services, Inc., Dance Vision, Casey's General Store, and

Heartland Chiropractic and Wellness.

Donation of $150: Charter Bank, Community State Bank, Iowa Orthodontic Solutions, Sullivan Family Pet Hospital,

Pagliai's Pizza.

Thanks to all of these businesses for donating raffle prizes. Backyard Adventures, Buffalo Wild Wings, Culvers,

Dairy Queen, Family Video, Famous Dave's, Glow Golf, Gusto Pizza Co., Hilton Garden Inn, Hy-Vee Food Store,

Jethro’s, La'James International College, MB2 Raceway, Planet Sub, Sarah's Hallmark Store, Sapphire Gymnastics,

Skate North, Sky Zone, Sports Clips, Texas Roadhouse, and Zip Zone.

Want to double your donation? Check with your employer to see if they match gifts given to accredited public

schools and fill out the appropriate documentation to have your pledge matched. Students who include a corporate

match form to our PTO or proof a match was submitted will receive credit toward their fundraising total. Check the

attached document or go to our website to see if your employer has a program!

If you have any Walk-A-Thon questions, please contact Chelsey at [email protected].

Fall Educational Rebates

It’s that time of year! Fall Educational Rebates collection dates will be September 23- October 9. Send your Tyson

Labels, Box Tops, and Labels for Education with your child to give to their classroom teacher during these

dates!! Send them in an envelope, send them in a baggie, send them in whatever works! Always nice to label it with

the teacher's name! Please try to trim the labels, really helps the volunteers and saves their fingers from all of

that cutting! Class that collects the most will win a pizza party!!

Tyson Project A+: Collect "Support Your School" labels from Tyson packages. Each label is worth

24¢! For a list of participating products, visit: http://projectaplus.tyson.com/Products.aspx.

Cut out "Box Tops for Education" labels on many of General Mills products. Each coupon earns

Horizon 10 cents. You will find these on paper products, apparel packages, and many food

items. For more information, go to btfe.com and to see participating products.

Save "Labels for Education" (UPC codes) on these products: Campbell's® soups, Spaghet-

tiOs® pasta, Pepperidge Farm® products, Swanson® broths, V-8® beverages, and Prego®

pasta sauce to name a few. With these UPCs and caps, our school can earn physical educa-

tion equipment, art supplies, school materials, and technology tools. Go to to

labelseforeducation.com for more information. Did I read that right, I can send in the caps/lids from

my Prego® pasta sauce, Pace® salsa, and V-8® juice, yes you read that correctly!

With our Labels for Education we were able to purchase footballs, playground balls, soccer

balls, basketballs, and jump ropes for each community. We also purchased some pedome-

ters to use as prizes for the Walk-A-Thon!

With Box Tops we were able to raise $$2312.00. Which supported the many activities

the PTO sponsors and grants for things our teachers needed in their classrooms!

A cool new addition!! The Horizon staff had a wonderful surprise as they

came back to work in August. Their old fridge which was often on the fritz

and did not have an ice maker was replaced by a nice new refrigerator, cour-

tesy of the PTO! A special thank-you to Chelsey Tanke for noticing that this

was a definite need for our staff and to Terri Spencer in the office for pick-

ing out the perfect refrigerator for everyone’s needs. It’s so fun to give a

gift and know it will be well-loved!
