Special Awards for the week ending 24th November

Congratulations to Mrs. Mackay upon receiving the 2017 John Laing Award. The John Laing award is an annual award that is presented by the Principals Aus-tralia Institute in recognition of a Principal’s contri-bution to the professional learning within their own school, but even more importantly to the broader ed-ucation community. Mrs. Mackay is always on the lookout to discover ways in which we can be the best teachers for our Dandenong North Primary School Students . Not on-ly that, but she also helps other schools reach new heights. By participating in formal reviews, present-ing to whole staff learning, advising leaders and sharing resources, Mrs. Mackay has made an incredi-ble difference to a plethora of lives at DNPS, across Victoria and even in South Australia and New South Wales. Principals Australia Institute has recognized the val-ue and significance of Mrs. Mackay’s contributions and has chosen to honour her as the pre-eminent Vic-torian, Government, Primary School nominee for 2017. On Thursday 16th. November, Mrs. Mackay was presented with a beautiful glass trophy in front of representatives from Victorian Government and Non-Government schools and Office-Bearers from Principal Organizations throughout Victoria. The awarding of this important honour reflects posi-

tively on our school and we all congratulate Mrs.Mackay on her special recognition.

Malone Medallions Monday morning saw Mr Malone reporting to the school about the success of the Year Six children who participated in the Dandenong High Mini-Olympics – winning this year’s trophy. He then announced three deserved recipients of Malone Medallions:

Tahlia (6C) Tahlia only joined DNPS this year and has shown her wonderful sportsmanship since arriving. She has participated in Division Cross Country placing 6th. She placed 4th in District Cross Country and 40th in the Regional Cross Country. She was a member of the winning Lyndale Mogul Fitness challenge team and a part of the Dandenong High Mini-Olympic team. Tahlia placed 4th in the District triple jump and 1st in the District 800m. At the Divisional Athletics she placed 1st in the 800m and travelled to the Regional Athletic carnival where she places 8th. On the weekends, Tahlia plays basketball for the Dandenong Rangers.

Leroy (6D) Leroy has always participated in sports outside of school including AFL football and Karate. Despite having asthma – Leroy does not let that stop him – choosing instead to fully participate in all sporting activities. Leroy was a member of the winning Mogul fitness teams and the Dandenong High School Mini Olym-pic teams. In 2016 he placed 2nd in the District triple jump and 3rd in the Division triple jump. In 2017 at the District Athletics, Leroy placed 1st in the long jump, 3rd in the triple jump and first in the 12/13 boys relay. He then continued on to participate at the Divisional Athletics where he placed 3rd in the long jump, and 1st in the relay. At the Regional carnival he placed 5th as a part of the boys relay team. He has participated in all three Gala Days – showing

co-operation and sportsmanship towards both his peers and students from other schools.

Urooj (6H) Urooj has worked hard to develop her fitness levels and skills throughout her time at DNPS. She placed 28th at the District Cross Country in 2016 and 33rd in 2017. In 2016, she participated in the hurdles event at the District level – placing 2nd and then 4th at the Division. In 2017 she placed 2nd in the District hurdles and 4th at the Division carnival. Urooj placed 4th in the District Discus competition and was a part of the District 12/13 girls relay that made it through to the Regional finals where they placed 4th. Urooj was another member of the winning Lyndale Mogul Fitness Challenge team – as well as a member of the winning Dandenong High Mini-Olympic team. She has participated in all 3 Gala Days this year in T-ball, Soccer and Soccer 5’s. Congratulations to our three deserved winners.

Karate Champion As you read in the previous article, Leroy (6D) is a competitive student who enjoys all sports. So ti is no surprise that on Sunday 29th October Leroy competed in a Kyoukushin Karate tournament. Leroy trains regularly for this sport, demonstrat-ing dedication at becoming the best he can be.

This tournament is both contact and non-contact

in terms of the way that you can defeat your opponents

Leroy was successful in both forms of this martial arts tour-nament - coming away with not only two great trophies - but also some great memories!

Congratulations Leroy!

Dandenong High’s Mini Olympics Dandenong Hish School put out a call to all the local Primary Schools to offer their 2018 Year 7 students the opportunity to participate in a mini Olympics for the chance to bring home a trophy for the school.

So last Thursday, 32 students went across to Dan-deong High with Mr Domogala and Tsering - ready to compete against students from Dan-denong Primary School as well as pitting them-selves up against some Year 7 children from Ha-kea house.

It was a team building exercise that highlighted how working together can equal greater success.

Some of the events that the children took part in—included an egg and spoon race (where the object is to get from one place to another in the quickest time without the egg falling off a spoon and crash-ing onto the ground). There was also the tradition-al 3 legged race where children must be knee to knee walking and again the importance of working as a team was highlighted.

There were other team building events and it was wonderful to see the Year 7 Hakea students finish

on 120 points, the Dandenong Primary students with 560 points and our Dandenong North chil-dren placing first with 180 points!

Congratulations to all of the children who at-tended and thanks to Mr Domogala and Tsering for taking our students across.
