One day a wealthy father took his son on a trip to the country so that the son could see how the poor lived.

They spent a day and a night at the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?” “Very good, Dad!” “Did you see how poor people can be?” “Yeah!” “And what did you learn?” The son answered, “I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the house; they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard; they have the whole horizon.” When the little boy was finished, the father was speechless. His son then added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!”

1st October 2015 was indeed a day of joy in St. Aloysius Versiglia and Callistus Caravario Post-Novitiate community Ibadan. The day began with lauds at 6.00am, followed by the Eucharistic celebration.

The chief celebrant, also the Rector of Onitsha Community, Rev. Fr. Charles Uzoeto SDB, during his homily, encouraged everyone to seek the good and progress of this country. He advised all to develop the spirit of commitment towards the good of this country and urged all to pray for Nigeria as a nation. Present during the Mass were the vice-provincial of the AFW province, Rev. Fr. Silvio Rogger SDB, vice delegate, Fr. Anthony Oche SDB, Salesian formators from the different formation communities in the province, and the students of the Post-Novitiate community. After the Mass, there was a parade anchored by Charles Okafor and Kenneth Okoli, followed by a “solemn breakfast”.

In the evening of that same day, the celebration continued with vespers at 6.00pm after which a local menu was served for supper. Furthermore, it was also a the “ Rite of Passage” for our first year confreres, as they were welcomed officially into the philosophical village after being screened by the king, elders and a thinker in the village. The first year brothers were also washed thoroughly by their predecessors as a sign of preparation for the journey ahead of them and also to keep the good atmosphere of the philosophical village. The “new seekers of wisdom” expressed their happiness with a song as their eyes were opened to the reality before them.

The father of the house, Fr. Riccardo Castellino, after giving them all the things needed to begin their intellectual journey, encouraged them to really be “true seekers of wisdom” which will surely lead them closer to God. He argued that God is the epitome of wisdom and therefore he who seeks Wisdom seeks God. The former “Artisans”, as they were previously called, left with smiles on their faces, as they remain grateful to God for giving them the opportunity to sojourn in search of wisdom. With this, the community went retired after a memorable day’s celebration. It was indeed a day worth celebrating.

In JOBITECH Akure, the school management has set

out time where students are giving opportunity to test their knowledge about the happenings in our contemporary society.

This quiz gives them the opportunity to acquire a better knowledge about the society which, if left in the four wall classroom alone, cannot be met.

Like Don Bosco, let us continue to offer the young people an education that is holistic with

Vocation is a gift from God and we thank God for blessing our beloved confrere Albert Gibson with this gift. After many years of formation, our confrere Albert was ordained to the Order of Priesthood on Saturday 17th of October 2015. Indeed, Liberians are undoubtedly glad since they had waited for many years for such fateful day. He is the second Salesian Priest after Fr. Blamoh Harris. This event was marked with series of programs for vocation awareness, vocation promotion, and thanksgiving. First among these programs was vocation night, popularly known as seminarians’ night. This seminarians’ night was held a night before the ordination, that is, on Friday 16th of October. It was centered on revealing

to young people the clear picture (joy and challenges) of different vocations in life. Some of these vocations for which we speak of include: vocation to married life, vocation to the priesthood, consecrated life (religious life) and so on. In view of making it a wholesome one, we invited

Page 11: News letter nov/dec 2015

different people based on the diversified vocations such as a couple, finally professed religious sister, a diocesan priest. All these persons were settled before Dn. Albert (now priest) shared his vocation journey of experience. These persons at the end also shared what vocation is all about as regards their different apostolates. It was as a result of these encounters that opportunity was granted to the young to ask some questions concerning different vocations in the church. In a nutshell, I think that the gathering was an enriching one since many young people had gained from it. The young people, I think, after such experience should be able to understand the right attitude towards each vocation and its expectations.

The ordination took place on the 17th day of October, 2015, at St Joseph Parish Monrovia. The ordination mass was presided by Most Revd. Dr. Luis Ziggla, the catholic Archbishop of Monrovia Archdiocese. The event was undeniably a very memorable one. The people of Monrovia were happy for the event and prayed for more vocations to the priesthood.

It is important to note also that there a thanksgiving mass a day after the ordination, which took place at Holy Innocent Parish New Matadi Estate Monrovia on the 18th day of October. It was the first Mass of the new ordained priest in his parish of origin. On that day, the entire parishioners of Holy Innocent parish, friends and well-wishers of the newly ordained were filled with joy and thanksgiving for giving them another Salesian priest after these past years of expectancy.

ORATORY FILE ON FEAST DAY

This was a moment of lecture and sharing of ideas on the issue of human rights. All the groups in the youth centre and Don Bosco clubs in some catholic Schools were invited for this workshop. For the talks two well informed gentle men were invited. One from UN human right department and the other a government official. The program was rich and educative.
