Hello All,
Amazingly, we have just two weeks of school left! But true to form, CIS students and teachers
are still active and learning. This coming week, we would like to highlight two drama
opportunities in our school. On Monday at 8:10 am, the MHS Drama class will present
Pandora’s Box. See the poster below for details!
For Middle and High School Grades 6-11 students, please make sure that you pay attention
to your summative assessments schedule starting on Friday May 26th through Wednesday
May 31. Friday May 26 and Wednesday May 31 are ½ days with 12:00 pm dismissals (12:15
for Grade 11s). Monday and Tuesday May 29-30, school will be in full day session until 3:10
pm.
Let’s finish the year strongly together, enjoy each other, and support each other to do our
best right through to end the year! Have a wonderful weekend with family and friends.
Dr. Ted Mockrish, K-12 Principal
As we approach the end of the school year, we are setting up a box in the front lobby
where used school supplies can be donated to children in need over the summer break.
Thank you for caring!
You are cordially invited to the
Drama Class Production "Pandora’s
Box - A Greek Mythology
Presentation" at the school studio
on May 22, 2017 (Monday) from 8:10-
9:10 AM.
This production features our Grade 7
and 8 students taking up the Drama
class this semester.
I hope you could come and watch
the show!

For Human Trafficking Awareness Day, in addition to participating in an awareness
campaign with CNN Atlanta, CIS reached out to the C.U.R.E Foundation which runs a safe
house called Rancho Ni Cristo. In this mountainous home, they shelter, nurture, and counsel
young victims (from ages 2-13) of cybersex trafficking.
With a vision and desire to reach out further, we were given the opportunity to visit the
house last Friday, May 12. A few students gathered together and planned activities for the
kids, which included games and arts & crafts. Students took leadership roles in scheduling
the itinerary, contributing transportation, gathering donations, serving as translators, and
bringing entertainment for the girls.
Everyone seemed to have a great time with lots of laughter and hugs. Vivian had a blast
amusingly feeding the younger babies during lunch, the older girls were intently focusing on
every stroke in their artwork, Disney's Moana was playing sing-a-long tunes in the
background, a lot of screaming and cheering were heard during the parlor games,
teamwork and bonding was evident while tree planting, and many more moments filled our
day.
Although these young girls have been through obscene trauma and exploitation, they still
choose to be hopeful and optimistic. Rancho Ni Cristo continues to lift their spirits and
provide the chance of a new life. These girls serve as an inspiration to us all.
Human trafficking is one of the most active crimes in Cebu. It's happening more often than
we think, and it's truly time to raise awareness that these victims exist and need our support.
Thank you to Mr. Ace and Ms. Basa for
dedicating time and effort in making this
ALL possible. Thank you to the art
teachers, Ms. Gerri and Mr. Saclo for
providing the art materials. Thank you to
G8 and Mr. Burgos for taking time to hand
paint each canvas bag and adding in
school and hygiene essentials (the girls
were thrilled). Thank you to Ms. Emma and
Raf for waking up 3am to pack us
sandwiches and lunch food. Thank you to
Mr. Bart and Mrs. Jinky, heads of C.U.R.E
Foundation, for welcoming the CIS
community into their own. Lastly, thank
you to the students (you know who you
are) for giving up their school-free Friday
to bring positive light and love into
Rancho Ni Cristo. - Catrina
