Union Meeting September 9 9am Timaru Girls High School The meetings are paid union meetings however as a number of our staff are non-union members the school will be open for instruction on that day and classes will op-erate as normal. The Government has announced a proposal to dramatical-ly change the way schools are funded. ICT Chat We have created a set of expectations around the use of IPads and computers as a learning tool throughout the school. I-Pad use across the school will be used to sup-port reading, writing and maths. As a staff we are inves-tigating apps that will further provide learning support for students in these core subject areas such as “Skoolbo” which is being rolled out as a learning support app and website that students can access at school and at home for their Numeracy and Literacy development

HOUSE NEWS On Friday the 12th August the whole school took part in a finger knitting challenge. Pupils were organised into their whanau groups and then were given a demonstration by the Room 6 seniors on how to finger knit. The colourful yarn was then divided up equally between the houses and pupils were then given an hour to finger knit a scarf for themselves. At the end of the hour we lay our scarves end to on the court to see which house had knitted the most

yard. Opuha house won and earned 30 house points. Opihi came 2nd with 15 points and Orari 3rd with 10 points.

Daffodil Day 2016 will be on Friday, 26 August 2016.

Daffodil Day is the Cancer Society's annual flagship event and one of the most important fundraising and awareness campaigns in the country. As well as providing an opportunity to raise awareness of cancer in New Zealand, Daffodil Day is a major funding source for the Cancer Society. The daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring, whose bright yellow blooms remind us of the joys the new season will bring. It represents the hope there is for the 1 in 3 New Zealanders affect-ed by cancer. Our pupils will be supporting Daffodil Day on Friday 26th, by dressing up in yellow and green. Pupils are also encouraged to create Daffodil costumes and come to school dressed in their costumes. A gold coin donation is always appreciated.

Our front and back cover are the school collages which were up for auction at the Mackenzie College Art Auction last night. We are the lucky recipients of both the artworks produced by our room 5 and 6 pupils
